TikTok, the new millionaire maker of 2020?

Thanks to WF-Enzo for pointing out that TikTok was one of the most downloaded apps of the year.

And they have recently announced they plan to SUPPORT their contributors with a monetization of the platform and the content.

This is about as GROUND floor as it gets for Social Media, albeit, TikTok has had millions of viewers. But next year, a month from now...will we see the new PewDiePie emerge from the short videos of TikTok?

Let's keep an eye on it, and better yet, lets cash in.

Anyone else planning to use TikTok with their IM? (or already are?)

Do you believe the success of the app is sustainable or that it's something that will come and go?

Belief? It will either evolve, like YouTube did, or die, like MySpace. One places his bet and takes his chances. Today, it is silly, even stupid and gross. But it is content, and as so many of you Warriors like to yell, Content is King.

Transitioning the current platform into something useful, and monetizing it, depends on the creative person but the owners would like it to go that direction, and just as YouTube encouraged people long ago, to figure out how to monetize the platform, some marketers will be able to do it.

The good is: SHORT brief content, doesn't take much time to develop. Could be serialized, branded, and attention getting even viral. Phone. No computer needed.

The bad is, immature, a distraction for the masses, and as noted, even stupid.

But if a marketer has a MESSAGE, and wants to get a message out, maybe a well thought out campaign on the platform, we'll have to wait and see.

So, as someone pointed out, Real Estate is a stable thing, why not do a little 12-15 second video of your OPEN HOUSES for the week, a Realtor has to visit the house and can easily capture a few seconds of video on his cell, post it to the TikTok account, and down the road, people who are out looking for houses, could simply see what is Open near them. They can do that with Google Maps, but the use of the platform

And whether or not it survives, or grows, or dies off has nothing to do with my opinion, I'm planning on TESTING, something my marketing background has taught me to be a prudent step. So, I'll test it. It will either work for me or it won't, all part of being a marketer I guess.

Might want to wait while US national security checks it out. The US Navy has banned the app from its mobile devices.

The people I follow are saying its a backdoor for China to access all of your mobile data.

...but people who have nothing to lose and have visions of sugarplum riches dancing in their heads don't care about those kinds of things, do they.

Funny you said that because I know about this app from him as well. I heard him mention it about a year ago, while being interviewed by Joel Brown. I found it funny because the interview had nothing to do with apps, and he mentioned Snap and TikTok.

I'm starting to think he did it on purpose (telling people about this app to jump on it). Maybe the owners paid him big to do this.

I don't see how this will hold the test of time after the excitement over something new fades, but time will tell.

I been looking at is as brand awareness regardless. I feel people shouldn't underestimate the youth as they do have a lot of power to influence whereas others tend to get too comfortable and too some degree stuck in their ways. If anything testing and trying out new social media platforms helps you evolve and ultimately a better marketer overall. As it was pointed out youth grow up and many events, experiences, and even memes come from things when we were younger. Many of the movies and tv shows are rebooted because we grew up with it and passed it down to our children. Yes, it is basically Vine but TikTok kinda brings that nostalgic feeling back.

If you want to grow on TikTok study all the great profiles from the Vine era.

Everything that made them stand out, will be what turns the new TikTok influencers into millionaires.

My advice for anyone starting out:
    - Make quick relatable content with identifiable characteristics (for personal branding)
    - Post lots of content for rising topics/hashtags
    - Try to make direct collaborations with famous TikToks profiles in order to get access to their audiences

The people I follow are saying its a backdoor for China to access all of your mobile data.
If you believe your "data" is somehow secure you are naive or deluded.

But there's something else marketers should know: TikTok is not saturated with advertisers yet. Not only are there few brands on the platform, but the influencer base is also virtually untouched.

I want to say it will die like Vine or Snapchat but it really depends on how the company moves and how the CEO manages.

That being said I'm not investing, it's not professional enough and the audience reminds me of Vine, which failed and I personally lost money with.

I'm sure this platform will see tremendous growth in the future. I read somewhere that at the moment a majority of its users are very young. So, it may not be a good money maker right now for those looking to sell affiliate products. However, in the future, it will most likely be very profitable as the user base expands.

I see that TikTok has been growing its number every day with lots of new users coming in every age. This could be a good opportunity for internet marketers to tap this new audience as long as its in trend.

However, I personally have not tried it yet.

I love the part about cashing in on it. That's what marketers do; they spot a trend, add value to it, make money for the value-addition, and then jump on to the next wagon.

Few though, myopic in nature, tend to exploit off a trend. They may do so in many ways, but common practice is to try n get more than you give.

As marketers, I believe, we should be willing to do the opposite.

TikTok is powerful and I'm afraid I haven't fully explored it yet, but reminders like these set you off in the right direction.

if nothing else, try reporposing content for it because as of today it still has 100% reach like facebook at the beginning ( but long ago no longer anywhere near)

All the notes I have taken this week point to it being a way to reach a lot, build an audience and move that audience to another platform better suited to you, be it your website, a youtube channel, an instagram account or whatever your medium will be.

I'm fairly sure 100% will not last forever so best get goin gon it fast before they close the tap like facebook did long ago in terms of reach..

TikTok, unlike YouTube and FB is geared 100% toward millennials. It is here to stay, I am sure of that and at this point it will interesting to see how a 15 second wacky video clip can be monetised but one things for sure, it will.

Maybe every 10 clips, a short ad will be shown which cant be skipped. That's what I believe will happen. If your market is millenials it will be worth getting in from the ground up.

Most of us have missed out on Tik-Tok for this simple reason: the longer a popular social media site exists the harder it is to make things happen. I still remember the earlier days of YouTube. I remember getting 20-50 views a day with some funny little videos. It was effortless. Today the same videos wouldn't get a single view. Internet marketing stuff almost never goes viral (unless it's some scam that's got attention to itself for all wrong reasons). Dreaming is fine, making things happen is a completely different story.

And I am happy for the social media personalities that are making millions. I really am. But how does it apply to you and me? You can post hundreds of funny, engaging, entertaining, even better quality little clips on there and get no traction. Luck is a huge common denominator when it comes to everyday folks. I don't want to rely on luck, or some pie in the sky when it comes to making money. The reason those people make millions is they have been famous before they joined TT.

How does it apply to the average Warrior? Fair question.

It can be used as part of a marketing loop. The loop could include Medium, YouTube, Pinterest, Facebook, Reddit, Warrior Forum, etc. and whatever else one might use to get eyeballs on their stuff.

We don't need to have millions of views, just a few targeted eyeballs, who happen to use that platform.

A marketer doesn't need to achieve social media personality status, they just need to have their offers seen by the right people...and maybe Tik Tok users won't be a fit, or maybe a mismatch.

We don't know the directions things will take, a year ago, I had a hard time getting people to use ZOOM, today, I am simply amazed at their growth in the last year.

So, to answer your question as to how it applies, it is just one more marketing channel wthin a loop of social media channels, tied into huge numbers of users. It may or may not meet your needs. But my issue is with the idea that it is too late.

Maybe too late for AOL (although still sending email to some old farts), too late for MySpace, and too late for several Google, Amazon programs that were launched then cancelled, but Tik Tok is still an infant...and maybe it will burn out and the next big thing will take its place.

And when that happens, I'll add a loop to it, and use it to generate traffic, and then take it from there.

Although, my experience is very few Warriors have built such a loop, they seem to get stuck on doing the one thing.

And for the record, which I take another issue with, is, I've never relied on luck. Planning, execution and adjustment has worked just fine for me these last 33 years of online commerce.

Part of the success is the huge amount of money they've pumped into advertising (literally half of all my Youtube ads are for TikTok.

I honestly think there main aim was to build something, spend a load of money on ads to make it trend and then hope Facebook buys it for a huge sum just like they did with Whatsapp and Snapchat etc.

Tik Tok is taking the world by storm but I doubt if it is the right way to go for advertisers considering that it attracts mostly Teens most of whom are still in schools and have no disposable income.

Tik Tok is going places. But we need to be cautious. I look at the audience and wonder if they will not shift alliance after they mature.

You can do really well on it, especially if you are an affiliate marketer, but I would never want to rely on this platform for anything. You can use it and cash in on it but never depend on it. I would recommend you have multiple places for traffic generation.

Take a look at other platforms like Facebook. Marketers rely on it to make their FULL time income. Then one day, FB decides to shut their accounts down for no good reason and they lose their incomes literally overnight. Too many stories like that.

Anything "1" in online business is not a good long term strategy.

There is a very specific form of content that can be advertised using Tiktok, relying on it as a side-marketing medium is better than counting amongst the primary resources.

People go there for entertainment and don't necessarily look for products to buy so I personally think that it will not be worth it.

I've been seeing a lot of "I make $100,000 per month" types of short videos on TikTok lately

The rising volume seems to indicate it's a working platform for even the historically spammy GRQ niche
