What are your thoughts on subscription blogs?

What are your thoughts on subscription blogs? (Blogs that charge $7 a month, for example). Have you ever seen someone do this successfully?

Also, is Patreon the best way to go about this? Or is there a better platform available?

Membership blogs have been around for a long time

The big challenge is to offer information people would pay for OVER THE LONG HAUL

This is tricky considering so many resources online offering premium content for free

Not to mention the huge number of 'dump' sites where whole courses (both txt and video) are dumped for public downloads. It's crazy.

I see it working for really "niche" content categories like "Renaissance era wood turning tips and tricks" not so much for topics that have been downloaded to death like "Instagram CPA riches" or "Tiktok email marketing secrets" or "Browser notification bonanza" that kind of thing...

      .
I agree. Many people/company fail to grasp the long haul effect over the short term.

I do an entertaining/humorous blog. I thought it might work since no one can replicate my writing or comedy style.

You hit the nail on the head.

There will always be other marketers who are more established, more famous, or more connected. But those marketers can't be you. They can't capture your personality, your energy, your ideas, and your unique way of expressing yourself.

Nothing will make you more valuable in a world full of copies, than becoming more of who you already are.

      Personality breeds perspective.

      People pay for perspective.

        For interesting perspectives, you mean.

I am offered a lot of perspectives day in and day out. I'm not willing to pay $0.00001/month for some of them.

        Otherwise, you're quite right.

I would do a test market see what is out there ! like $1 for first month see if they will stick round for the next but as writeaway has written content may be a sticking point but if you have covered go for it

I know Mark Manson has a free version and also paid subscription to his blog.

His writing is now read by millions... so I'm sure he's doing well.

Of course, he also has a couple of best selling books.

But check out his site if you're looking to model someone who is doing VERY
    well with paid blogs...

The key is, do you have content that will add value to people.

Whether it's helping them get fit, save money, make money, improve
    relationships... it don't matter.

If someone can use your $7 content for solving problems they're
    having... it will work.

The truth is, if your writing helps people and they can use it to
improve their lives, they'll invest if the return is worth it.

But if there's one thing I've learned after almost 20 years
online... you can make just about any business work if you
focus on helping people and adding value first... then monetizing later.

Patreon is a good platform to start out with as you don't need a website. They can work however you need to offer a service that people are willing to pay for?

Subscription blog is great but only if you provide great information. Because getting people is not tough but keeping them is really tough..
