Contacting vendors that don't have an affiliate program yet.

Hey there!! First time posting. I've found a really nice niche appropriate vendor site that has high end, quality items for my niche audience. I see there is no affiliate program so I contacted the company and asked them if they had one. They responded right away and said no, they don't have one but what do I have in mind? Well, I can't tell them how much to pay an affiliate marketer. How do I respond? I see this as a huge opportunity. Do I send them a training video on how to create an affiliate program? I'm not sure how. Do you negotiate the commission rate? I need to answer this person ASAP. Thanks for any advice.

What's the industry standard for the niche?

I'd say something like," XX% is the standard commission for the niche, you can set up an affiliate program on...[whichever platform is appropriate]."

  • Sounds like there is an opportunity here. Go for it, man !

You reply by sharing with them what you could do for them with your strong and solid niche audience and take the opportunity to give them what you could offer to them and how much your service and offer render and compare it with having to advertise and promote their products on their own.

Give them a projected sales number that you could help them with and negotiate for an exclusive distributorship that is mutually beneficial to both parties.

For the fact that they showed interest is an opportunity. Left to me , I think you should negotiate and make enough profit while it last. For the fact that you will be their first affiliate means less competition and more sales.

Ask them if they plan on offering an affiliate program. If they have no clue about what an affiliate program, tell them what it is and the benefits of having one. If they know what an affiliate program is, give them the opportunity to "hire" you as their affiliate. Tell them what percentage share you would like per sale (negotiate), and tell them that you have your own marketing materials. It's a sideways JV pitch, but it could end up as being something potentially profitable for the both of you.

  • From similar affiliate programs ask them to pay you that % commission, you can also send them an estimate number of orders and total sales amount based on your experience, should not take you more than 5 minutes.

Sounds like you are going to clean out by being the sole promoter :-)

    Good luck
