We might be forgetting the most fundamental concept in marketing

Consumer behaviour.

That's it. No fancy SEO schemes. No massive social media campaigns.

I mean, how did iPhone 11 sell better than its predecessors? How is Samsung still making phones and all despite the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco? How did Microsoft bounce back after losing money on the first ever Surface RT tablet?

Again, consumer behaviour. They know how their consumers tick. They know the purchase habits, their likelihood of making a purchase, the ins and outs. Pretty much everything.

Are you talking about making better products which consumer likes?

OP, to get the information you referred to ("purchase habits" / purchasing tendencies), having long-term contact with customers is key.

That's why almost all marketers should keep an email list.

Fact: most visitors will NEVER come back to your site, unless you have an email list or push notification system to GIVE THEM A REASON TO COME BACK

Here's just one of my sites:

Sent an update and got a nice spike - it usually lasts a week.

The key is not to 'over update' your list members

Well, I agree on since Consumer Buying Behavior analysis is a key role in a Market Research Strategy. The needs and desires of your target market is constantly changing and the only way to stay ahead of the competition is following the continuously changing trends of your customers..
