Yeah, big time, here. I keep starting a product, getting about 30% done with it, and then seeing the same damn thing come up as a WSO.

And I always think: "If I had just finished the rest of this product, that could have been my WSO."

Hi winebuddy - I can assure you, it's not just you. It's probably 90% of people who start anything - new businesses, new fitness programs, new novels, new projects, etc.

Even among people who are able to finish some things, there are probably 10 or more unfinished projects for every thing they've finished (guilty as charged!).

So... I wouldn't sweat the fact that you're part of this big club. But I would focus on becoming a better finisher. I would pick one thing and use every ounce of discipline you can muster to see it through to the end (even if you end up hating it). You'll then prove to yourself that you CAN finish things, which in itself will boost your confidence immensely. Not to mention having a finished product out there.

Bottom line though: the most successful business people are strong finishers. However difficult or easy people regard starting... finishing is where the money is.

I have 2 projects going on at the current moment.

When one gets boring, I just switch the other one - eventually they'll both get done! :-)

Definitely. I am very prone to this. Creative people tend to have lots of problems in this area.

I have learned to trick myself into finishing projects:

SHOPPING!

Go shopping, but don't take any money or credit cards. Take a camera. When you find something you want, take a photo of it. Warning: Don't buy it. Make it a goal.

Drooling over a new BBQ grill? Promise yourself that after you get that project posted to the web, you'll go buy it. Want that new pair of shoes? Promise yourself it's only 20 autoresponders away! Dreaming about that new laptop? Tell yourself that for the price of 5 articles per day for a month it will be yours.

It's a total mind trick. I find that I work best if it's something in the $200 - $300 price range. My current goal is a nice coat I saw at the mall about 3 weeks ago.

Remember, though... This only works if you don't go back and buy it. Be strong! Good luck.

Now thats one I have NOT tried yet but NOW I am going to make it a reality. Excellent suggestion and idea and I gave you a THANKS for it.

I am working on a new strategy. Doing what I do best, and getting things started and then letting someone else finish, and keep it going. As in outsourcing. My older projects are suddenly starting to see activity and signups whilst the excitement on my end has long since waned.

If you can afford it, it's probably the best move. Just make out a timetable for ONE project at a time, and get it done even if you have to outsource all the rest. It will pay off eventually by having one more in the stable.

Alternatively, schedule the work you normally put off last as the first item. You'll plow through it in the excitement mode, and when that steam runs out you'll still have the fun stuff leftover so it won't be as bad.

I get a ton of ideas and there are at least 20 projects that I would like to start (no exaggaration, I counted them). I find it very hard to focus on just a few things, but I usually manage to finish stuff anyway.

As Seth Godin says: "Your job is to ship."
Can't find that speech anymore, unfortunately. He basically makes the point that for any project you have started, your job is not to innovate, tweak, improve and refine; your job is to ship that finished product.
