Yes, brilliant minds all over the world are working on it. The first to develop it may be heralded the Hero.

Thing is, it has been 'how many months' brilliant minds have been working on it and there is no vaccine. Many of the brilliant minds have stated it is harder than it sounds for this reason or that reason and so forth.

The brilliant minds, working on a vaccine, all agree that a vaccine will not cure the virus.

They do agree that the virus will mutate and require new vaccines to be developed and approved by the authorities before they are released.

They do agree that owed to the process of 'red tape' and 'time' involved the virus will continue to mutate throughout the process possibly wherein the vaccine is no longer effective. Back to square one.

Is it true that a vaccine will never be discovered? That is where the brilliant minds split. Some say yes and some say no. Most say there is not enough data to make a medical, scientific or otherwise prediction.

So what is the common denominator at this point in time? Brilliant minds say they are working on a vaccine that is not and will not be a cure.

I am not a brilliant mind. I only know what I selectively read. Who am I to predict, discern or be judgemental?

What can I do?

Brilliant Minds or even ordinary common sense minds put COVID under control in their countries so I am optimistic. It can happen.

Some people got it and beat it on their own with treatment. (with some side effects) But still Awesome.

But going into places focused on an economy not knowing who has it standing/sitting right next to you is not Brilliant that is for sure.

Opening economy is great..but if you do not include mass testing/tracing/isolation in that equation is simply insane and irresponsible.

Read today a Doctor was exposing people to it.

Kurt -

Sheltering in place or 'distancing at home' is not the same as 'hiding in your basement'. There are those who NEED to stay home longer - who need to avoid exposing themselves. There are many reasons for that but it's a conscious choice based on both public and private information.

'Hiding in the basement' to me is unreasoning fear based on emotion rather than facts. It's avoidance. Caution and even fear are logical in this pandemic -and that doesn't end just because the world has to get back to working again.

Then the obvious choice is to devise something to treat it, to alleviate the symptoms, to stop people dying from it. That will free people's minds of the fear, the fact you can take something to lessen the symptoms and make it go away, and faster.

I have never been vaccinated against the Flu and not had it in over 10 years. But, I have had it and just layed low for a few days and always recovered. and there are antibiotics that make it go away faster, or at least the end effects like a persistent cough.

I know the flu can still be a danger to people with pre-existing conditions of course.

I'm another one that doesn't bother with flu shots. My guess is the vaccine for covid-19 will be similar to other viral vaccines - might lesson the severity and protect some people but won't eradicate the virus.

It's the treatment options as you mention that are the most necessary to getting back to a semblance of 'normal'. It's not 'fear of flu' that is paralyzing us - it's 'fear of death'.

If research is able to develop a medicine that lessons the time or strength of the covid-19 infection - that would be almost as good as a vaccine. If affordable and widely available (Over the counter) might be better results than a vaccine.

I do a fair amount of traveling in my profession throughout the country, as do many others. Not much sign of people "hiding in their basement" around major cities and highways. A "mobile office" (RV) doubles as "distancing at home".

I may be wrong, but to me the term "Hiding in your basement" has always meant someone hiding from the world, fear of many things such as life choices, etc.

Can't speak for Kay (she is wiser than me), but that's how I have always interpreted the term.

the best personal defence against these diseases ..with be a shift in diet away from processed foods to diets wih far more fresh vegetable or locally grown produce..and a reversal of the obesity epedemic .if morbid obiesity turns out to be a risk factor in how deadly this is , and certain deficiencies in vitamins and mineral levels .

so basically a real focus on fixing health problems with better diet and good health practices over just givving a medicine for this or a medicine for that

A common DSW2 deficiency in the lymphatic and endocrine C5X chromosome system will also show an increase in IOK19 regression (which is similar to the COVID-19 virus profile) marked with a surge in B523C filament growth.

One solution showing promise in blind studies is XbandPharmaFSX19 meds twice daily and 6 XBanPharma HFD tablets every three days with a glass of mineral water or beet juice.

Actually, I was poking fun at lay people who try to give their "expert" remedy for immunity.

Just sounding important works on those who are uninformed.

Seriously, no "diet" or supplements has any significant effect for protection against viruses, especially COVID-19.

Medical specialists have already stated what we need to do until researchers can develop a vaccine.

Right now, there is no other defense.

You and me both - big disappointment.

Interesting Forbes article this week - looking at what changes in the workplace covid will have long term..

The work-from-home movement untethered people who’ve been confined to a place that only offers a reasonable commute to work. As employees are able to work remotely, they can now live wherever they’d like.

Many people took flight to places that offered more affordable housing, lower taxes, better weather, shorter commutes and a better overall quality of life. About 5% of New York City's population, representing about 420,000 people, already moved out of Manhattan during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It's something we mentioned early on in this thread - that 'work from home' might get a big and lasting boost from the pandemic. Most of the big tech companies are allowing employees to work remotely.

the main reason for the boost will be companies actually make more money with people working remotely .. and that companies can recruit from around the country /world ..and lower their costs

and to play on profit question..the suit an tie management crowd that drew their rgos from managing an office with so many employess ..is in for an identity crisis

In a general sense I agree. In a specific sense.. not so much.

In a general sense take the typical SNAP customer support centers around the U.S. The people that man the phones providing customer support are required to have a degree in a related field. Those people are of a higher caliber of professionals compared to non-professionals without a degree. Same questions are answered day-in and day-out.

The IT network itself and the applications to interface with the staff are stable, seldom significant changes and that with in itself keeps the cost relatively low.

In a specific sense take the typical mobile support center where hundreds of people man telephones providing everything from customer support to technical support. The people that man the phones providing customer support are "not" required to have a degree in a related field. Those people are of a lower caliber of non-professionals compared to professionals with a degree. Not the same questions answered day-in and day-out.

The IT network itself and the applications to interface with the staff are not stable, frequent significant changes and that with in itself keeps the cost relatively high.

In this case, mobile support centers, it only works owed to frequent interactions with trainers and mid-level management. Add the cost of just that and now you are hardly breaking even.

The end result is that the customer is simply served best. And that is the basis of future sales of the products where the resulting profits keep the company in business.

Now, relocate the low-caliber customer support specialists to remote satellite stations (work from home) without frequent interactions with trainers and mid-level management.. recipe for disaster.. lower future sales.. lower profits.. business in jeopardy.

Is there a solution? Yes, there is, albeit not a perfect solution.

Online customer support. All customer support is online. Sprint is doing a good job of it BTW. Instead of 60 customer support specialists handling 60 accounts in 15 hours the online systems can do it all in 15-30 minutes.

Is that good for employees? No, definitely not.

if someone depends on a paycheck ..every 2-5 years that paycheck will come from a differnt company .weather the company went out of business ..moved to a different part of the country .. orjust figures they don't need someone anymore ..

Has anyone else noticed that the "news' is talking very little about the virus now?

The White House isn't holding briefings on it anymore.

And...we are still (the US) losing about 1,000 people a day to the virus.

This whole thing is only 3 months old. In the US.

the news has moved on .. and the riots should act as a super spreader even so we should be seeing huges spikes where there where large protests so big spikes of people dieing starting in a few weeks ..

or the media will move on to all the people who lost their jobs and couldn't get unemployment or the stimulus ..so expect the media to start harping on the horrible economies and the desperation of the poor..

if there is a increase in the street level homeless ..and or Rv cities just pop up around the country ..expect to see that in the news ..

Reading through this thread is a study of mankind. But as of this writing Covid-19 as it is referred to by doctors is killing more people than any other plague otherwise AKA as a pandemic known to man for this generation. The vaccine is obviously what we all want to come as fast as possible but a good vaccine that will protect and not hurt people rushed because the powers at be are worried for self-centered reasons. Anyone notice the increase in efforts to grow internet business these days? The rush is on!

Here in Vegas all employees at casinos are tested and wearing masks. All safety measures are in place to control Covid19 and protect the tourists. The visitors are coming from all over the world to gamble, drink and eat but I see very few wearing masks and practicing social distancing.

I hope I am wrong but I do feel we will see a future outbreak and we will all suffer the consequences.

If I can just reach one reader seeing this post,

"IT IS REAL PLEASE PLEASE WEAR YOUR MASK AND PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING UNTIL THIS IS FIGURED OUT"

I unfortunately know 3 people who died of COVID19, one being Roy of Siegfried and Roy here in Las Vegas, don't let this happen to you or your loved ones.

It's just a mask for less than a year before a vaccine.

Maybe we will see upticks - but what I noticed is even in states where numbers are up rather than down - the death rate is not going up quickly if at all. It may be we have learned to manage it better - or people at risk are protecting themselves better.

Recent events have made a mockery of the 'precautions' and no matter what the numbers on covid are - I don't think people will tolerate another lockdown. It's possible we will see number of cases increase but not a corresponding increase in number of deaths.

If that happens, it will be a 'flu' with a certain level of 'complications' just like the seasonal flu that kills thousands every year.

I think the reason we haven't seen a corresponding increase in deaths is because it takes so long for symptoms to show, then needing hospitalization, then a ventilator, and then dying.

Maybe it's also a factor that at the beginning, we took no precautions at all, so the virus ran wild in nursing homes and veteran's homes. Now we have most people wearing masks and at least some social distancing.

Maybe it helps that there is more testing. New cases are being found, without the symptoms that are so bad you have to go to the hospital. That's a guess. That would bring down the percentage that die, statistically.

The demonstrations/riots, along with some planned rallies...may bring a new crop of cases.

Right now, the country is getting between 400-1,000 deaths a day. It may be that we are just getting used to it. And hospitals are now better prepared.

A lot of People are wearing a mask alright.

They read upsurges, they read what a scientist says, they know people that want to make money are fudging the numbers of infections to get others out and exposed but yet they want to live in blissful ignorance.

Good luck with that.

I didn't see this coming a mile away after all the protests.

Some people just are not very smart or just do not care or a combination of the both.

We shall see how this all plays out it should be interesting to say the least.

Here Are All The States Where Coronavirus Cases Are Spiking
Sarah Hansen Forbes Staff June 13, 2020

The "spike" data is coming in. It is pretty much as we expected:

Excerpt:

Texas and Florida—two of the first states to reopen—both hit new daily highs last week.

California also hit a record daily high last week, though one official attributed the spike to increased testing (Florida’s governor has also attributed his state’s spike to more testing).

Arkansas, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah and Alaska have also seen surging case numbers over the last week.

On Friday, the CDC released new forecasts that singled out six states - Arizona, Arkansas, Hawaii, North Carolina, Utah and Vermont - where the coronavirus death toll is likely to rise over the next month.

Some states and cities have walked back reopening measures in response to surging cases: Oregon’s governor put the reopening process on pause on Friday after the state saw its highest level of new cases since the start of the pandemic; Utah’s governor issued a similar order, as did the mayor of Nashville, Tennessee.

In the minute it took me to write this post.. someone died of Covid 19. RIP.

The Countries that are Beating COVID are not holding Patents or Top Secret Methods on how they did it.

There was a Seinfeld Show where Costanza did every thing opposite that day and he had huge success.

If this is true then it looks like some much needed good news to me.

Steroid dexamethasone reduces deaths among patients with severe COVID-19 - trial shows

The results, described as a "major breakthrough" by scientists leading the UK-led clinical trial known as RECOVERY, suggest the drug should immediately become standard care in patients treated in hospital with the pandemic disease, the researchers said.

"This is a result that shows that if patients who have COVID-19 and are on ventilators or are on oxygen are given dexamethasone, it will save lives, and it will do so at a remarkably low cost," said Martin Landray, an Oxford University professor who is co-leading the trial.
His co-lead investigator, Peter Horby, said dexamethasone - a generic steroid widely used in other diseases to reduce inflammation - is "the only drug that's so far shown to reduce mortality - and it reduces it significantly."
"It is a major breakthrough," he said.

On Friday, the CDC released new forecasts that singled out six states - Arizona, Arkansas, Hawaii, North Carolina, Utah and Vermont - where the coronavirus death toll is likely to rise over the next month.

I don't buy these predictions - Hawaii, for example has had less than 800 total cases of covid - and only 17 total deaths. Yesterday Hawaii had EIGHT new cases. Sorry - but that is not a crisis. In the same amount of time, the state had 15 deaths in auto accidents - didn't shut down cars, did they?

Unlike other states Hawaii can control it's borders - and it has just extended it's 'mandatory quarantine' of 14 days IN THE HOTEL ROOM for tourists. Now the quarantine is required till end of July. Some travelers who stopped to look at scenery instead of going straight to hotel room from airport - were arrested and kicked out of the state.

Four members of my family have a high end vacation planned in August - to Hawaii. oops. They wre going to cancel but thought the mandatory quarantine would be over by early August - but no guarantee Hawaii gov won't extend quarantine again.

Hawaii has a bad economy - very expensive to live or travel there - low wages. Estimate is 40% of small business in Hawaii have had $0 income in past two months. But the state is remaining closed...why? there is no logic there.

this is what i was trying to say a month or two ago.. you have a much better ability toget your ideas across than me ..

but at this point there is actually no logic there .. will Hawaii be begging the government for a bail out .. when their coffers are empty because they shut of most of the sources of tax revenue ..the same way many big cities around the counttry will have the same problem..

if you look at it logically ..the lockdowns where intended to destroy the economy .. and the main asset of most millionaires in this country is their businesses .. so the other aspect of the lockdown is to destroy the wealth base of much of the country .. but thankfully most of these businesses are built on skillsets and can be moved to parts of the country way more friendly to businesses and with room to spread out ..with lower cost of living and lower tax burdens .

lockdown the economy and destroyhalf the economy.. then even before the fincial stress hit cities .. get into another nation wide issue .. where cops are either resigning or just walking off the job .. tehn once there is not enough police protection in cities.. trucker fearing for their safty stop hauling goods into cities ..

the only author who could have wrote a novel this bad and got people to read it .. was L ron hubbard
