Many startup marketers often assume they don't need a website, forego the latter, and just create a Facebook page. They often justify that their pages alone work, and don't see the reason for running a website. Here are reasons why you still need a website.

Socmed is limited
Social media sites don't have all the features needed, and often these are added only when there is public demand.

Websites outrank social media pages in SEO
If you search for, say "coffee shop", first-page result will show articles about coffee shops, not a link to a social media page. In fact, almost every organic listing that shows up is an article featured on a website.

Websites are universal
If you happen to only run a LinkedIn profile and not much else, remember that viewing a LinkedIn business page requires one to have an account, and not everyone has a LinkedIn account. In contrast, websites are accessible by everyone, and won't ask visitors to sign up just so they can view and gain access to your page.

    In my country website is not required to make a business successful. In contrast, so many of local businesses are getting more profit just by using social media, even without email. Here, mobile number, whatsapp, instagram, facebook and youtube are the idols for them to make money a lot. All they need to focus on is their unique brand with local wisdoms.

    I agree with IGotMine you have lesser control over your asset on a social media platform as compared to your website. Yes, a social media profile with a landing page works well but it varies from industry to industry. Also, you would want to create a website for reasons like you might want to gather more business without paying anything to any platform and for this reason you need to do SEO of your site. Furthermore, there are many great reasons with which only a site seems preferable. Websites also create a of sense of credibility in the customer/client's business doing intent. Without a website, people lose a great deal of business of which they are unaware.

    I totally agree with this. You should definitely have your website, while social media account should be an additional source of information. For example, you could interact through there with your customers, have a nice portfolio of your work if that is possible, or promote some special discounts. At the same time, your website should be more official and informative, in the sense that a customer should find all the relevant information there, such as, for example, the price list or service list which you provide.

    The idea that people are using social media pages alone as their sole source of revenue doesn't make sense. This reveals the ultimate flaw in the business owner in the fact that they don't know how to market a website - thus resorting to a platform to bring in 95% of income. Once a social media platform disables your page or this income source diminishes... so does your income.

    That's the long and short of it

    FB is a non-starter

    I use it now as a content distribution platform using many account "mirrors"

    Why?

    I was dumb enough to originally stick with ONE page and once I got it HUGE, FB's algo ensured people rarely saw my updates

    Not going to make that same mistake again

    I swear to god, I hope my clients all read this.. I own an agency and the clients I do digital marketing for thinks websites are useless. They all settle with Instagram and Facebook.


    I am only able to convince 4/10 clients of mine to finally get a website for their business.

    Absolutely. I cannot agree with you more. What you just said is indeed a big misconception by most.

    A website is tantamount to your store front, your business portfolio, your business/company profile and much more that social media are not able to 'showcase'and give more information.

    A social medium is like a digital radio to me where we connect with the target audience and offering updates. It's a platform for marketeers to 'speak' with their audience.

    Not to mention if any of the Social Media platform decides to change their terms and conditions and your page is affected, you're automatically out of business...

    it's way more likely to get banned on social media than losing a website, so yes I totally agree to what people are saying above me.
    a website is necessary, but many people might be afraid of creating one because they think it's hard or something like that, which is just not the case.
