Who really makes a full time living from IM?

Hi All,

I've recently found this forum and have been reading feverishly! I currently work in IT and this all makes sense to me in theory and I now understand the (very) basics of how this can/does/will work - I fell like I'm at the start of a very long and prosperous journey!

What I wanted to ask is how many of you currently make a full time living from these methods? There are a lot of very extravagant claims (naturally as it's all about sales!) being banded around and sometimes it's hard to see the wood for the trees!

I'm really looking forward to getting fully involved and, as soon as I can, giving something back to the community for all I've learned so far!

Good to be on board!

People like you really piss me off.

You do not think of the pain you cause others .

Is money all that is important to you ?

Sure it is all money in the bank to you but I am the one who has to keep getting grandpa out of the freakin barn.

After the last time I don't think I can ever look at as chicken the same way again. Let's just say ...eggs are no longer on the menu at my house .

Lol. Nope. I feel like I am providing a service. My studies show the elderly like animal porn, so I am doing something positive for the community. Plus at the "homes" I have a captive audience.

Although, I do feel bad for your grandpa, I will send an advanced copy of my "Safe Animal Sex Tips for the Elderly" ebook due out soon(it has big print AND pics!!).Thanks for your support.

Lots do - I don't. But yes, I don't because I have never tried to scale to that amount - I can easily see what a huge income potential it has. I do make a thousand or couple of thousand bucks per month nowadays though, practically with one real product and with my article writing services.

Ive been at this since around march, and if you read my previous posts, you'll notice the "journey"

I went from knowing nothing, and i mean nothing!!.

I knew i had to get a basic knowledge of html and stuff, so i went to the w3schools website and learned from there. Then i discovered wordpress, and began teaching myself the ins and outs of that. Then came seo, omg, thats been a journey in itself!!...

Then i learned about article writing, and finally cpa.

Where am i now??...Well lets just say i earn enough to get monthly payments from 2 cpa networks

Stick at it, dont give up, and dont listen to killjoys who want to tell you you cant do it.

      Good luck mate.

      LOL! Nice one, George.

I'm not as yet, but finally getting some sales after years of trying is exhilarating! You definitely have to keep at it; and I (and I'm sure everyone else on here) can't stress enough on how important it is to STOP JUMPING from one thing to the next. You'll regret the time you've wasted when you look back, I guarantee it.

Weelllllllll, I'm not so sure. There's so much to learn that you have to work on lots of different things to get up to speed with the basics, and if you just focus on one thing how do you know what that thing should be unless you're led there by your experiments?

My very first site was a blog to feature pages for CPA offers, with traffic provided by article marketing. I learned how to register for a network, track clicks, set up a Wordpress blog with different themes and plugins, add affiliate banners and cloaked links, and some basic SEO. Unfortunately I also discovered that AM gives good SEO ranks but really lousy traffic; I've had less than one unique per day and 0 zip/email submits and 0 list signups.

So if I decided to "stick with it" what would I do? I don't have the budget for PPC. So I tried something completely different: Amazon Affiliate autoblogs, following one of the WSOs here. Now I've learned how to set up blogs with Amaff, how to do article and W2.0 links for SEO, and how to do Google Adsense. I still know nothing about social bookmarking but I'm going to learn in the next few days. But those skills are useful no matter what I end up focusing on.

My problem now is I don't know where to concentrate so I just submit articles and blog posts every day and tweak my army of 20 sites. I may try CPA again by putting their banners on my Amaff sites but there is hardly any clickthroughs as it is -- I get about one adsense click per day and about 5 Amaff buys per month.

So now I need to know if I should just keep working on the SEO mindmaps of my Amaff sites, or start to develop sites for Clickbank (I've never done CB), or look into other-than-Amazon physical products (ShareASale?), or just start a site around my hobbies so I'll be motivated to write posts. Its a tough question -- the past three months have been a great learning experience and the time and money costs have been well worth it -- but I'd hate to concentrate for 6 months on just one thing and not have it work out. I'm leaning towards expensive physical products through some decent commission network, but I just don't know.

        ThomasEdmund,

According to the IRS there tens of thousands of people in the USA alone that reported 100% of their income from an online endeavor, so clearly there are plenty of people making a fulltime income. There are very similar numbers reported from other countries as well such as Canada, the UK, etc.

Are you referring to IMers that sell to other IMers? If so, that's a very small % of the overall e-commerce world. There are plenty of marketers who earn a good living by offering quality products in non-MMO markets such as dating, weight loss, nutrition, personal development, etc.

Point is - if it was such a good thing, why is it that there is hardly ever a telephone number, an address, or even a real name of a person selling the stuff, but in the small print there are the legal notices, where if you read between the lines, you can find out the real value of what is being offered.
Which market / niche(s) are you referring to? While there are plenty of websites that don't have phone numbers, there are also plenty that do.

    Hey Rockefeller,

That is a great question it reeally is..........
Ive been making money online since 2004 and up until a few weeks ago i didnt know what IM was. I just make money and never labelled it as IM i genuinely had no clue what so ever that these communties/forums existed.

I was invited to a seminar and i went along just out of interest. 3 days later and having spoke to many people i realised that i was a successful IM lol.

These guys in here know everything about everything and i dont mind telling you that i dont know much at all, i know how to make cash thats it.

I see lots of posts making special offers etc i honestly dont even know what a lot of them are talking about.... get blogs, back links, front links, traffic, responders, blueprints, black hats, white hats.... ??? LOL

I have a lot of products which would suit you down to the ground and i would be happy to give them to you for next to nothing. Everything you need step by step but you know what? i dont even know how to sell em on here. I would give you an average price guide of $47 ebook or dvd or video for nothing ($1.97) all the hype all the facts etc in a basket ready for you to munch.

As i say this is brand new to me too, i just did it all myself no help no clues no nothing. I cant even speak the language lol.

    I am a new aged dinosaur !!

    Anyway good luck buddy

If you want anything, shoot me the topic and i will send you a picnic.

PPS I joined warriors in October ive actually purchased 2 products total $15 a $7 and a $8 i used the info to tweak my own online things and ive literally added £3000 GBP in 3 weeks.

1 piece of advice - stick to doing just one or two things for a set period of time. If you subscribe to everything and jump on all the 'hot' bandwagons, you will be swamped. I was/am and am desperately trying to focus on as little 'crap' as possible.

      Avoid the information overload.

      Great thread

For those who replied stating they have staff in their IM business, I be interested to hear what roles those staff play in your business. Are we talking niche researchers, campaign managers here?

I've often thought if I ever make it successful in IM, could hiring staff provide leverage to become even more successful.

      Thanks

I think the problem with most people is that they invest in so many programs, but they're not making progress in their own business. I think getting your first check from clickbank, or commission junction or wherever it may be is enough to push someone over the top and make them want to take things a step further. I believe you can do this while you're working at your job. I've been hearing so many people talking about outsourcing, which i think is great; I JUST started outsourcing some of my jobs. But, I think the trick is just picking one idea, one site, and focusing ONLY on that project until you've covered all your points... then move on to the next project! Any thoughts?

I agree...I spent way too much time jumping from one product to the next, purchasing one membership after another, thinking I was "missing out" by not jumping on the latest shiny product. I think in IM should stick with one system, master the basics and then move on.

Lol... I'm full-time, but it takes a GOOD LONG WHILE before you get to that point if you don't follow the right methods. You can work equally hard on 2 websites, and one makes you thousands, while the other makes exactly $10 per month.

I've seen both sides of the coin and wish to never see people have to go through all the struggle. Now I have a system that works for me, and I'm sticking to it.. expanding etc..

Yep, Chris nailed it here, folks.

As much as there is no mystery and that it all comes down to "hard work"... the biggest piece of the puzzle is WHAT you do.

And getting that ever-important first wave of results is essential. It can take months, maybe even a year or two of dedicated trial/error until you "get it".

Whether that's a market that works for you - or a marketing style - it can take time.

Doesn't matter what direction you go, there is a learning curve and a trade-off of some kind. This is why I truly think it's essential to set up QUICK test sites, drive some traffic and see what happens, in a variety of markets at first.

I've had 5 page mini-sites make over 6 figures profit from free organic traffic.

And I've had 500+ page authority sites barely earn 1K a month.

(Same principle goes for opt-in lists, not always the size that matters...)

Bottom Line: It's easy to go "full time" when you've got a WORKABLE combination of market, offers and style.

Finding them is the initial "hard part"...

Stick through, run enough tests, and it's inevitable (which requires focus, effort, time and self-discipline).

      Best of luck,

      -Chris

P.S. What "works" is usually right in front of you. Choose a market. Look at who's advertising, the main offers, etc. Make a list of what you think are the top 5 sites promoting them.

And then run with something similar yourself. Then do it again. And again. And when you strike a nerve - scale up like a bat out of hell...

    Hi

There is definitely a lot of Hype in IM and a lot of it is not real. Once you get into it,though and do your own due diligence you wil discover the real stuff and it will blow you away. You need to do very thorough research.

It is definitely possible to make a loooot of money. Currently, approximately 90% of new millionaires are made online. The real trick is to find something that works ,stick with it and grow it.

I do and I know many people who do too.

You do have to keep a perspective on the fact that you're probably going to have to develop some skills and experience before you make a full time income if you're starting out.

Many people think making money in internet marketing is like pushing a button and the cash rolls in without work, effort or skill.

It doesn't work that way. This is a real business that takes real skill and effort.

The rewards can be good to amazing depending on how much effort you put in and how intelligently you work.

      Kindest regards,

This is a loaded question and is relative to each individual.

      Let me explain...

Some people can ''make a full time living" and earn $50K per year.

Some people can "make a full time living" and make $100K per year.

It all depends on your lifestyle situation, income needs and lifestyle expectations. You may be working at Maccas (Mc Donalds) and living in a share house with a few mates or waking up to your own private beaches and following the sun around the world hopping from home to home.

You have to set yourself some goals to meet these variables and whilst I personally do not yet "make a full time living online" today my goal is to make significantly more than $200Kp/a as a starting point to maintain a status quo.

Full time is also another term open to interpretation. If you are working 60-80 hours per week in a day job, would you expect to have to work 60 in IM to achieve the same after tax income level?

      Would you be prepared to?
Is 80hrs p/w full time or could 20hrs p/w in IM be considered full time?
What would you do with the rest of the week if you were not working?

The internet marketing lifestyle that is promoted by Gurus as the end goal may not be yours. Understand where you want to be and it will be easier to get there, full time or not!

    Rockefeller, welcome aboard.

It's been a decade since I last received a paycheck, and I'll tell you how I did it.

I started out wanting the Internet to be a source of clients so that I could build a personal book of business and ultimately make partner at the law firm I was working at.

You wouldn't believe how many hours it look to learn how to hand code a table in html. But learning everything - from html to php to marketing principles, led to creating websites, which led to clients and, then ebook sales and recurring membership payments for some sites.

When the partnership offer came I turned it down and started my own firm - and took the clients.

But then I made a very important 'mind shift'. Getting clients from the Internet to an offline business is great, but it still means working. Even if the pay is several hundred an hour - it's still hourly work. No work = no income.

The shift then was setting processes in motion to create ongoing sources of income. Work once and then with little or no future effort to have income come in month after month, year after year.

Everything I do has that as a goal.

The Warrior Forum, and Allen Says, have been invaluable in that regard.

I haven't taken on any new clients in about many years, even though I could "double dip" by doing hourly work on top of the IM income that just rolls in.

My suggestion is to read everything so you get a feel for what is 'real' and what is 'crap.' There's a lot of crap, and a lot of 'gurus' will peddle anything to make a commission, so you have to watch yourself.

Anything by some teenager who 'discovered' some secret, or income claim by some 'new' person no one has apparently ever heard of, is almost always bogus.

Fake scarcity, where something like an eBook could be downloaded a million times but the 'guru' or seller limits purchases, has in my experience almost always proved to be something of little to no value. If a product has value it will get good reviews which lead to more sales over time.

On the other hand, software that can save you time can be very, very valuable.

Anyway, a couple thoughts and good luck.

I quit teaching 20 years ago when I stated selling books, then ebooks. Haven't had a real job since. The secret to success: A hungry dog hunts best.

Most people wait until they have "all their ducks in order" before they quit their day job. That day usually never comes--the ducks keep bobbing and weaving. If you have something to fall back on--you probably will. When your back is against the wall and you have no choice but to succeed--you probably will.

Upon the sands of hesitation lay the bleached bones of those who waited, and while waiting, withered and died.

I just started working full time for a couple of months now and sometimes its not all its hyped up to be. The hardest thing in IM is to keep on doing what you need to do while staring at your screen seeing no sales.

I think you need to have a certain passion for this type of business, that passion will get you through the rough times and hopefully to the good times.

But if you just stumbled into this thinking this is the easiest way to make money, and you have no interest to learn it, i bet you'll be out of the game in a month

Now when you say "these methods" what exactly are we talking about here? There are an awful lot of methods being discussed on this forum.

I make a full-time living online. But about 60% is still basically a j.o.b. That is, I deal with clients and have deadlines and such. At least I don't have to commute!

The extra income that comes in from I.M. is great, particularly when it reaches the passive stage and is just extra dough with no extra work. I experiment with a lot of 'these methods' that I've read about here, and some of them have worked well for me. But there is a lot of work involved with this stuff, and finding the right 'fit' is importent. Some of the stuff I've tried makes money, but doesn't interest me.

my advice: keep reading and start experimenting, but keep your day job for now.

I have been at it seriously for 6 months and make a full time living from writing SEO articles, services and affiliate marketing. Not as much as I'd like, but I have big plans and expectations for the new year.

If you have any specific IT skills, such as webdesign or programming, you may find it easier to start out by offering a service while you work on your own projects.

It's not really that hard to make a full time living online, but as I learned from the good people here, you really need to approach this as a business.

That means don't look for the magic bullet or quick money, but do the same research and business planning for every project as you would in a real business.

I am also a Internet Marketing consultant/trainer to offline businesses which has some pay days.

I dont have a lambo in the garage yet, but I can honestly say that I am living my dream, because I have lots of time to spend with my family, I can feed my kids, pay bills ontime and still have money left over without having to beg or borrow.
However I sometimes put in alot of hours of work (learning and trying new methods) but it beats what I was doing before.

Take it from a newbie, there can be times when you may get fustrated from imformation overload, but stay focused do your research, pick a product, study it and take massive action.

As a U.S. Army officer, I'm pretty much 'bound' to that profession. I love it, and I also love what I do online. I don't earn nearly what some here do, but I have made of my own smaller successes. Right now, my earnings from my online endeavors just fluctuate so much that they aren't quit 'reliable' enough to do it full-time, even if I could. I can have several hundred dollar days, but flanked by $20/days....it's a fun thing to do 'on the side', at least for now.

With an impending deployment overseas again, I'm anticipating having little to no internet access....so, it just really can't be a full time thing, even if I had wanted it to be.

I see a lot of people make a living from IM , but what does that mean to you?
Is it $2000/month, $5000, $10000. Living in California and being able to pay bills I'd have to make $15k or more a month to make up for my current "day job."

So my questions is, what is lucrative? for me, I would be happy making an extra 2-3k a month. it would be almost enough to pay for my mortgage!

Sorry totally wrong, I know lots of marketers who actually promote very little and they all make an online living.

Personally i've never done a JV launch and never will & I've been full time since 2005

IM is just like the local school yard

The problem is people see how the big boys act in the school yard and think they should act the same way... theres no need to act like them anyone can make a living online wiothout promoting all the latest hyped crap.

I've been home full-time for 10 years. I don't make my entire income from IM, but I do web development, we design and IM. It's been the greatest blessing I could ever imagine.

It takes discipline for sure... sitting down 8-12 hours a day. Scrounging Craigslist when times are lean, but at the end of the day... I can't beat having the freedom to go eat lunch with with my wife, coach my kids ball teams and more - even if it means working irregular hours now and then.

I still see many saying a full time living, but how much is that? I'm not asking for exact amounts but if I were to buy something off someone making $2000 a month and call it a full time living, i'd have to move out of So. Cal to "live" off that.
I like IM, mostly adsense sites that provide good info. I'm up to $200/month which is good beer money, and I do it because I like the challenge. So how much do you make?

$2000 here in Greece is about 2 months income of an average employee.
most people here work for €700 a month which is about $1000

This is an extremely important point. A fulltime income varies wildly depending on where you live, what kinds of things you're going to buy, and how many mouths your'e feeding.

People generally don't like to give dollar amounts for whatever reason, but I've seen a few threads where a few people say how much they make. I live on the east coast and IMO a good number of people make what I'd consider a fulltime income (>3/4K /mo--although I've existed on half that, I consider 3/4K to be the minimum 'comfortable' for a single person in this area).

I've been full time IM for 6 years.

I started with my last $100, seriously I was deep in the ****! No Income - rent and food to pay for.

I worked for 16 hours a day every day building my business and also writing for other people and building sites ... quite often when my daughter was at school my wife was working along side me.

After 4 months I generated a $4000 a month income our outgoings at the time was about $2000.

Anyone can be a full time marketer you just got to want it.

You also don't need to scam people and hype things up Just be yourself and work as if you were marketing to a friend, your mother or even yourself and you won't go far wrong.

I fyou can't meet a customer in the street and look them in the face you are doing it wrong!

Can I afford a Ferrarri or a Yacht.. NO

Can i afford not to work for a year and travel the world yes.

I am just a normal guy doing a crazy job.

Although, I can go and hire a yacht or Ferrari if I need to do a sales video (joking!)

    My brutality HONEST opinion:

If you expect to make a full-time income online, then most of you will sadly become disappointed. Just like in everything else, there are those 'select-few' who actually are able to turn it into something bigger each and every time. Now with that being said, I never said it isn't possible. Even if you have a full-time job, it wouldn't hurt to have another stream of income. It really depends on your current situation: Are you able to work towards another income stream? Do you have the time? Do you have the personal drive to try and start an income from scratch?

Just some things to think about.

Yes, it's possible to earn a full-time income from IM. Don't fall for the claims/promises that this can happen in one hour or in one day. Everything takes time and if you're laser-focused and take action, you'll do just fine.

I've been doing this for 8 years and full-time for the past 4 years. Things started falling into place only when I stopped jumping from one "opportunity" to another.

    Welcome to the WF!

Always motivating looking at this. It's kind of like when you go to buy a guitar and some guru picks up the guitar and plays some sick riff. You at least know it's possible that the guitar can make the music. Sometimes with all this information to hear some feedback that yes it truly works is motivating.

    Thanks All,

I agree. I read somewhere that 80%-90% of internet businesses fail the first year. This is not to say that it is not possible. As many people mentioned, you just have to treat it like a business. It involves hard work, lots of research, and lots of trial and error.

I write this because to be successful, you have to be realistic about what it takes to succeed.

Personally, I was forced to do this full time because I was let go from my job. I am not making much. I am actually quite frustrated that it seems that I am not moving up in the rankings much. However, I am confident that I will make some good money. I just hope that it is sooner than later.

I make a good full time living as an internet marketing consultant to corporations, mainly start-ups to medium sized.

You would be amazed at how appreciative corporations are when you bring them even the basic internet marketing tactics many of us take for granted.

Just curious---for those of you who are making a fulltime income, are you outsourcing?

From what I hear, that goes hand in hand with a fulltime business. I'd rather not outsource too much but if that's the key (or one of them), I'll have to reconsider it.

So many people here DO make a living off of internet marketing. But does anyone here PERSONALLY know anyone who became right through internet marketing?

I've only seen websites of people claiming they bought this many cars, this many houses and etc. from the money they made through IM but I don't know anyone like that in real life. Maybe that part of IM is the scam and just a way to lure people to buy their products?

No yet. But I can certainly see the potential to do so. In many cases it's a matter of scaling up and using outsourcing to get more things done.

I been at this job for many yeasr, and in several niches.

Its not easy, but then what is....but its well worth it. I now outsource alot of myself, and stuff i cannot do to those over seas. What a god sent, outsourcing is.
