Struggling with Affiliate Marketing - Only make money through Google Adsense

So I've figured out a way to consistently drive traffic to my web site using social media.
I currently have google adsense enabled plus I experiment with different affiliate marketing ads.

I get about a 2% conversion on the Adsense that really doesn't amount to a lot of money at the end of the day. I feel like if I had a good affiliate marketing product I'd be doing well but nothing I try seems to work. I've tried various services like ClickBank,ShareASale,Rakuten etc...

Does anyone know of a banner or some kind of ad I can post that gets good conversions?

There is a simple strategy which can get in MUCH better results than advertising products directly . . .

build a mailing-list. To do that, you need to give them something of value for free, but that can be something like a 1-page check-list or cheat-sheet, so doesn't take much time to research and create.

Once people subscribe to your mailing-list, you then give them more valuable free info, and occasional product recommendations or reviews etc..

For even better results with product recommendations, instead of recommending a single product, create an article which compares 3 different products and recommends one as the best. One marketer I learned from, did that with a local newspaper ad, and tripled his income from the same ad-spend. You can use affiliate products for all 3 recommendations, so you make money whichever they choose.

    I hope this helps!

A single website with a small amount of traffic will struggle to make money from any passive advertising source. In the past I build vast blog farms and was able to get some great results, but it was a massive undertaking and Google's frequent changes made the whole process untenable.

If your traffic is highly targeted you could build a list, again you need volume of traffic. You could also offer your own information product. To be honest you need a lot of traffic to make a living online. That's why news sites, forums and major blogs do best. Email is usually the best, but you have to think beyond a single website.

    Best of Luck!

Chris is right, building an email list is the way to go.

That still leaves you with what you should promote.

The first thing to keep in mind is why people visit your site.

An offer that matches that will convert.

So, someone having a site about building big muscles will do well promoting dumbbells and protein bars and badly with make up, lose weight, mortgage, etc. products.

Then, the offer has to be good (good copy and good offer).

Then, the offer should lead to a page that does not have a sign up option.
If the visitors from your site end up on the seller's list, then buy from an email offer from the seller, the seller will consider that they made the sale without your help.

Keep in mind that when promoting affiliate products, you are facing a triple whammy of intense competition. Not only are you competing in the marketplace, you are also competing against other affiliate marketers of that product, as well as the vendor.

Using banners or ads on your website is perhaps among the worst forms of marketing. Most likely, your visitors have seen the exact same affiliate banners on dozens of other sites.

Without any other engagement, your visitors will simply do a search for product reviews and are more likely to buy from someone else who provided what they were looking for.

As an affiliate marketer myself, I seldom promote offers directly. Almost all my offers are deep within sales funnels or through content widely distributed in online/offline publications which are consumed by my targeted prospects.

As a minimum, consider blogging to review the affiliate products you are offering to engage your audience, continue to post on social media, build a list, then promote directly to that list.

In my experience, there is no better marketing method than to build your own personal brand through massive relevant content to your targeted audience.

Hello. First of all I love your desire to succeed online! Your desire and your hunger to succeed will be the reason you ultimately succeed online! So don't up! I have been online for over 7 years now. I have spent thousands worth of dollars online, I have bought many programs online, and have had many great mentors online. One thing I did not see you mention is that you are growing an email list! Outside finding your niche you are passionate about, and knowing what offers to promote it is important that you build an audience of people you can build your authority with via an email list. With an email list you can follow up over and over with your prospects and build trust with your prospects that way they "know, like, and trust you". Without build a list and building authoirty, most people will NOT buy there first time around and you will forever be going in circles like I was when I first started. Building a squeeze page and driving your traffic to your squeeze page is what seperates the successful from the non-successful!

And here is the issue... you are drawing traffic but under what context? does any offer you have tried MATCH in CONTEXT?

Stop with the idea of a "Banner Ad" and start creating traffic draw around something you can actually sell. I can only imagine you are creating content on social that is all over the place... this and that and the other with no rhyme or reason... pick something - anything and go with it, and find products or offers that MATCH - its literally THAT simple.

  • Thank you all for the advice thus far. I have seen email lists mentioned multiple times.
I currently have a mail chimp account for this as its free. Do you recommend using this versus other paid services?

Also what is the best way to capture email addresses? I have heard creating a splash page can be good.

Regarding affiliate services I've tried different ones from dating services, health products, work from home etc.... I've gotten some clicks but no one has ever bought anything

Can someone please take a look at my web site (google my name) and let me know if you have any good ideas based on it?

I appreciate everyones help and support!

Lets start with the blog... you are taking up W A Y to much space on the top for your logo... its important to "Brand" I get it... but it almost makes your site un useable.

      Right now your logo is:
      Image
      Text

      It should be:

      Image - text

This will narrow the real estate your logo is taking and creating a larger viewing area. I would suggest cutting the graphic to HALF the size with the text to the right.

Next... you are sharing images of Every day Beautiful... cool I get it.. try looking at this:

      https://www.boredpanda.com/funny-wom...mpaign=organic

I found by the way by looking up "everyday woman" on Google. Try looking up "Everyday Beautiful" and combinations of that to find something that might be of interest.

I would suggest adding Quote blocks that can be shared on Pinterest with your logo placed SMALL in the bottom corner of each.

I would create a graphic that you can post to these young ladies page that says they were posted on your page ( like an award of sorts )

You need to stay away from "Diet" anything - that would be body shaming - and just find products that may pamper your target audience - Candles - Bath Bombs - fragrances what ever it is that makes a woman feel special.

You are probably making this harder than it needs to be... figure out who is looking at your page and identify with them, and provide products etc that are inline with your idea for starting this in the first place - you don't have to be a Celebrity to be beautiful.

Produce contextual content such as articles, podcasts, video and post on relevant platforms such as online/offline publications, blogs, social media etc. Direct traffic to your landing page to capture contact information. This format works for virtually any product or service, including affiliate programs.

I've been doing affiliate / CPA marketing for over 19 years.

During which I have mainly promoted PPL (pay per lead) offers. This is because there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is fill out a form, so conversion rates are typically much higher compared to offers that require a sale to be made.

Maybe there is a PPL offer(s) that would be a good fit for your site or as others have said ... build a list. If you want to do affiliate marketing long term, building a list is key. This is why I've been able to do it as long as I have, as I'v always driven 100% of my traffic to offers via email marketing.

Indeed it takes time to earn a decent living from affiliate marketing. Perhaps you need to invest more in the venture. To reach the masses, you need more blogs that keep your niche active. It will help to increase the traffic and this could slowly increase your level of income.

No single ad banner will give you money on the first attempt. You need to do it again and again. More importantly, is the fact that google adsence will only make you money in the long run. So don't' give up.
