I am constructing a coupon site similar to Groupon. It is coded in HTML.
I want to get a person to give their email address before they get to the payment page, to build a list for my clients.
What would be the best way of achieving this?
All I can think of is a web page with a link to the coupon which is only accessible by entering an email, but I don't know how to do this.
Any ideas?

What would be the benefit for you to build a list for your clients? Are you building a list for other people?

I am building a list from each client and incorporating those lists into a single list, to which all clients can get access.
For instance, a small flower shop may only get ten signups, but they will be able to market to every other business's list.

If you can, offer a piece of content in exchange for their email. A solid lead magnet like an ebook, free report or video only sent by email.

If you don't want to produce content, maybe include a check mark box right in the opt-in box saying, "Please send me more offers via email."

No matter what, building a list is a smart move.

I want the lead magnet to be the deals website itself. I like the "create an account" option suggested earlier.

Great idea - I think that's how I got on to Groupon's list in the first place - I'm sure I didn't sign up from a local business. Thanks for your suggestion.

I'm not sure but you need to do it the other way around isn't it?
First you need to contact your local businesses and enter into some kind of a contract etc and of course get some discounts and then come to your website and advertise those deals?

What I am doing is setting up a sample website, (shown below) then showing it to local businesses and asking if they would like to be on it.
