What do you use to send digital downloads after purchase?

I want my customers to automatically receive a download email after making a purchase with Paypal.
I don't have the coding knowledge and all the plugins (wordpress) I've tried either don't do this or add in too many steps so you lose customers on the way.

Any ideas? What do you guys use?

Thanks.

Put the link in your website and social media post as well...

If you want to do it independently, then use any WP theme and plugin as you like from...

I'll second gumroad, as long as you're selling digital products. It's so easy to use and you even get your own little webpage of sorts to sell from through them if you want. They have a marketplace of sorts where I believe you can get some promotion.

Host the download anywhere. I use S3 mostly but you can use Wordpress (just upload the file to Media and grab the link).

Paypal has a place where you enter the link for the download.

If they're clicking on a Paypal button on your site, simply go into Paypal and specify the download page you want people to be redirected to.

If this is too technical, then you could consider hosting your file on a site like Tradebit.

  • You mean literally just email a direct download link instead of a members area? I'd just use something like MediaFire to host the file and then integrate PayPal with your auto-responder to send the link in an email.

You need the user to automatically download the file once the purchase is complete?
One option is to work with the paypal api. You send them to a download /thank you page automatically after payment. The page would have to be secure to avoid access from those who did not pay. You would need a programmer to install a suitable script for you, and you can find one here on WF. It's pretty straightforward.

Make sure the download link expires after a few hours / days. Otherwise the buyer can send their friends to the download page.

i use a self hosted script called protected links which allows me to lock it down to the buyers ip address if i wanted or to a timed expire after download or after x amounts of downloads. i usually have it set to multiple ip per download just in case i dont have time to change the link. Then once a sale goes though create a duplicate link then lock the old one to there ip address so know one else can use it.

From the admin panel i can see who has downloaded it and how many times and how many failed attempts have been made.

There are a few WordPress plugins but some are temperamental and difficult to use. I have used the Easy Digital Downloads plugin in the past but not for a while. If you'd prefer to avoid the hassle of a plugin, as others have said there are third party sites that do it. SendOwl and DPD are popular but there are others such as sellfy.com or selz.com. If you just want a light and cheaper one there is also digitalproductcart.com.
