Building a membership funnel & site

Hi, I've been around for awhile (as you can see from my account age...2008). But so much has changed in 10 + years.

I'm a consumer of information, and back in the day have attended a stompernet conference as well as a Frank Kern weekend seminar. I used to earn 4 figures a month with internet marketing, but all that got pushed to the wayside.

Since then I've had various brushes with clients of mine from my real life coaching business (health related) that got into marketing, and we tried to launch a membership site with infusionsoft and Digital Access Pass. it went OK, but fizzled after a short time, mostly b/c I felt like he used my success in my real world coaching to help him launch a marketing agency.

Anway...here's where I am today. I would like to put my real life skills into video lessons and create a course for recurring / passive income.

I'm have skills with wordpress, I use active campaign, I can reinstall digital access pass, I have a merchant account with authorize.net

Do I really need anything else? Do I need clickfunnels or Kajabi or Thrive or Optimize Press?

I feel like I know what I need to do, I just need to implement it.

IF any of these solutions will save me time (and thus earn me $$ sooner) then I will consider it, but when I look at them I always feel like I can do all that stuff on my own and I resent teh amount of $$ they want to charge.

    Hello, mate

    So as I understand, you want to build a course and put it into a membership site, correct?

    It depends on how fast you want to start money, or if you want to build a list or how you gonna drive traffic to your landing page/sales page.

    I think building a course or membership site is the easiest part, the hardest part is to advertise your product. How do you think to advertise? Here in WF or facebook ads? Or maybe build a list and send links to your offer?

      Hi Cheese!

      I already have a few lists in this niche adding up to ~1000 or so people, plus I have a podcast, and an active FB group, and am active in some niche facebook groups and online forums. I'm less worried about marketing it. ONce I have a funnel or process, I plan to run FB ads with lookalike audiences since I have so many in my niche collected already.

      Yes , this is correct. With a lot of people in my industry giving away free courses and live video sessions, I made an offer to teach a few free live classes and there is a lot of interest. So my plan is to do these live (maybe up to 3 of them), and get an idea for what level people are at. I tend to teach at a level that I would want if I went to a converence ,not realizign that many people are just getting started or coming to the field with less educatonal background (I have a professional doctral degree). ALong the way I've done teaching for people from at risk high school kids to medical students and feel like I just need to know my audience to teach them.

      My audience for this will have a bachelors level degree as that's most common, and those oare the people that are most thirsty for more education. (as opposed to those with masters or doctoral degrees)

    It sounds like you have all the necessary skills to do whatever you
    have in mind, as well as some experience in what not to do. And
    now you need to determine what you require to get it done.

    I would suggest that you assess your situation, develop a plan and
    get busy making it happen. As to spending money on the various
    programs, there's a saying in the industry:

    "Don't let being cheap keep you broke"

    An alternative you might consider . . .

    if your course of video modules will be really high quality, and you have lots of proof of the results from the method, consider selling via webinar.

    As you probably know, webinars can sell VERY effectively, if everything is done right.

    You'd need to create a really good webinar that will convert very well (there are a lot of different marketing "tricks" specifically for webinars each of which improves conversion a bit more), then you'd probably need to test it somehow, such as with paid traffic (experts in FB ads for webinars often get 8X ROI), or your own list if you have one. Then once you've got some competitive stats, webinar JV managers will be happy to get the owners of big lists they know, to promote your webinar.

    A webinar JV manager I know talked recently about someone who did this, and made a million in sales within the first 70 days. So worthwhile results are certainly possible if everything is done right
