There's a massive surge in app installs

No surprise there - but the top downloaded app categories in March were:
  • Business apps
  • Gaming apps
  • Entertainment apps
  • Food and drink delivery apps

The higher traffic however, is quite hard to monetize as mobile marketers have pulled back on in-app spending.

Also of note is that in contrast to these categories which all have increased downloads, e-commerce app installs have declined, mainly due to longer wait times on online orders.

Chime in.

I think those huge downloads from china.
BUT regarding apple apps take those notes:
What you see in App Analytics may not match exactly with what appears in
Sales and Trends. To more closely match the numbers in App Analytics with those in Sales and Trends, take the
    following steps:
    1) Set the time zone in Sales and Trends to UTC, the time zone used by App
    Analytics.
    2) In Sales and Trends, filter out any app purchases made on Mac or PC, which are not included
in App Analytics. To do so, choose Platform from the Add Filters menu, then choose iPad,
    iPhone, and iPod Touch.
Note that even with these adjustments there will still be some differences in the totals in App
Analytics and those in Sales and Trends. This is because apps on devices using iOS 7 or earlier
are not included in App Analytics, but they are included in Sales and Trends.
So could it be that these devices are from iOS7 and earlier? And remember that users have to opt in before you see their analytics. Perhaps that has to do with it as well.

Logically speaking, it's normal. All the world has work difficulties and the only way to survive is online. To work at home, earn money, downloading apps to create something. As for me, I changed my working field to online business. Otherwise, I cannot live, eat and help my family. So, staying home means ordering food online, now all delivery men have decent salary.

  • A lot of developers right now are shifting their focus to healthcare, and I wouldn't be surprised if for the next month or so we will see new apps that will target people who cannot get proper care for their illnesses because of the fear that they might contract the virus. There's been an increase in downloads in mental health apps too since people are finding it hard to cope with the lockdown.

Personally, I have downloaded apps for masterclasses and ebook reading to keep myself sane..

I love the observation, app developers know that everybody is desperate so anything that promises to offer a solution will sell. Let's wait and see how it goes.

Due to the current pandemic I will no longer be shaking hands or giving hugs. You may wave, bow to me or give me the finger...your choice.

My revenue in one of the admob account has increased by almost 50% last month as compared to March and may double this month. Yes, seems that people are actually downloading a lot of apps.

I am presently working on other things so have not time to create more apps. I will update a few apps though which are making most money.

App installs are increasing greatly. I don't expect that this will continue forever, though.
