I Want to Start a TV Channel

I would like an opportunity to broadcast a particular YouTube community.

Can I do a channel on Roku? I like the Pluto channel and could do something similar. Lots of older material and live streams.

I don't know how to start. I have only done DVD design and production to sell online as anything related. Initially I think I need to get permissions. But also think the videographers would upload content themselves - or would be amenable to revenue share as a form of payment.

The creators would love it, the public will lap it up and there is a good chance of this being my best project to date if it can be done.

I like the idea of a semi-self-sufficient operation where content is provided to the channel and automatically uploaded when approved, or something that isn't going to be unnecessarily time-consuming. Seeking approval in advance from all of the intended videographers would be practically impossible, but a few of the top ones on board would get many of the others to join in.

I can pay $100 a month to be able to have a video streaming site. But the problem there is bound to be promotion, which I am useless at. I wouldn't have made much money selling DVDs if it wasn't for integrated Google Shopping. I cannot do advertising and promotion, so I pay around 13% of retail direct to the ecommerce websites to have it all done for me.

Any comments will be helpful. Even those not directly related to the topic. I have been on here 8 years and just clicking on a poster's signature has probably led me down a few paths. I liken it to development as a poker player in that each bit of knowledge adds 5% to ability. But that 5% extra could be the deciding factor in a massive pot.

It's a broad spectrum of questions. Try posting them on reddit. It's possible there are people lurking there who know exactly what your next step should be.

Do I understand correctly that the only skill you bring to this table is the idea of having a channel and paying a monthly fee to have one? You want to make money without doing anything more than that while others create the content and drive traffic?

If I'm understanding correctly you kind of want to be the middleman between the content creators and Roku (or similar services). Why do the creators need you? How do you know that "the public will lap it up" and the "creators will love it"? Have you spoken to any about your potential project?

Also, where will you host all of the content? Do you know how a channel works? I wouldn't think that YouTube would allow themselves to be the host for Roku so I would imagine there's a step in there somewhere, but I don't know.

Just thinking through the idea aloud. If this is a particular YouTube community like you mentioned I'm just not sure what you bring to the table, from your own words, other than an idea that they could just go do themselves without paying you money. I'm trying to understand what value you bring to that particular table. Feel free to correct any misunderstandings I may have. It's not always easy to grasp concepts through a medium like this.

I researched starting a Roku channel a few years ago. It is totally do-able.

You can either DIY it or use a third-party service. If I remember correctly, the third-party option was relatively expensive.

I found this article which might get you started on your research.
