What are your thoughts on the latest(May) google update?
Has your site been affected?
Do you think covid-19 had an impact on the google algorithm?
Are thin content sites taking a hit as the rumours suggest?

Oh yes, the thin content sites are taking a hit. I've been writing content of 1,000+ words consistently for a United Kingdom based client for over four months now without any traction gained ever not until the recent Google's Core update was released. To my greatest surprise, a sudden boost in traffic was noticed on her site despite the fact that she was only having short articles on her site, while the other client with several long-form articles couldn't move an inch.

Thin content is not about length but quality.

And quality means different things in different niches, context but it is never about length.

Saturday, 10 PM, sink starts to leak. Quality content on a plumber's site is: Open 24/7. Call xxx-xxx-xxxx. We serve X, Y, and Z neighborhoods.

On a review site, a product may require 250 words, another ine 75, another one 1352.

Yet some guy has 2000 words for all and another 175. Neither one has quality.

You do not know how the ad affected one-page sites?

As with any of their updates there's an initial confusion involved. People were saying Pinterest pages showed at the top of quite a few searches. Some saw old, outdated sites at the top. But it all seems to be settling down now. I didn't read any specifics about the update. Just a scheduled May update.

Taken a hit somewhat, but there's always one thing that will survive most Google slaps and that's having a website with high-quality content.

Content that solves a problem for the reader. Focus on this type of content and you will win every time.

Copying my first two sentences in post 4 above is not contributing / participating and will not get you far with online marketing.

Seo '' Experts' often say quality of content . What they do not say is how Google judges quality . People often just assume that quality means a well written article . Google does not have the time to manually read your articles or posts . Google Bots check it out and what they look for is moot , guesswork .

Generally though , Google looks at time spent on your page , Clicks on page content , or whether visitors click out almost immediately .

Some Seo people will often push so called shortcuts or loopholes . Google often catches up and down grades those sites . Yes the Google sandbox exists . Best is to make regular posts to your websites without overdoing it
