Traditionally, we Internet Marketers offered bonuses as incentives to prospective buyers which is one way to improve CTRs. Traditionally, participating merchants would pay a small fee to Honey when a customer searched with Honey and purchased.

Savvy buyers know that Honey is designed to save them money, so they be will inclined to research Honey before purchasing from your niche site(s). And now that PayPal is involved you can bet your last dollar that Honey will be made public in ways that Honey never could.

    If your only value is providing the "lowest price" on a slim Amazon product review site, failure is almost always guaranteed. Perhaps even more so now than ever before.

    However, people will often accept premium prices (and are far more likely to shop for other products), if you consistently provide premium content.

    Also, Amazon does offer "discount codes" for affiliates to promote some products, which are not available to the casual shopper.

    There already are many other discount shopping tools available, but as long as you show the overall best value to your customers and subscribers, including frequent bonuses with a high perceived value, price can be a non-issue.

    The whole Amazon Associate landscape is changing. I don't think the future looks bright especially for someone just starting and trying to use SEO for traffic. It takes a lot of work and time to get the traffic and Amazon is paying almost nothing now in most categories.

    Last month I had one of my best months and now I am already on track for my biggest Amazon month ever. It is not from good commissions but from tons of sales. People are not going to stores so they are buying more online. I don't expect this buying frenzy to continue forever.

    Honey has been around for a long time and I always wondered if it would effect my traffic but it has never seemed to. They have done a LOT of advertising in the last year or so and I imagine they have grown a lot. Since they have already been doing some saturation advertising, I don't think that it being owned by PayPal will make much difference.

    The key like always is to provide some value on your website that gets people to visit and come back. Honey may help them find discounts so we need to help them find something else - comparisons, pros and cons, how to's, honest reviews, general information that might not be found anywhere else, charts, infografics, videos, etc....

        Bezos has produced more multi-millionaires than anyone in history in not just the affiliate program but also for his investors, vendors, and business partners, and revolutionized the growth of private industry in e-commerce, publishing, cloud computing, AI, robotics, aerospace, astronautics, etc.

        Every major successful business has top leaders who are obsessed and driven towards high levels of achievement. They push themselves far more than employees. For the most part, employees have little regard for the success or failure of their employers. Same for affiliates. Having to work for a paycheck is considered being "mean".

        Most affiliates have really never come close to leveraging the marketing potential for which Amazon has excelled. Affiliate commissions have never been a significant source of income for even the most successful Amazon affiliates. The monthly Amazon affiliate sales reports are priceless for quickly finding best sellers and new markets.

        For another example, Apple's co-founder Steve Jobs was legendary for his tyrannical management style which eventually resulted in his partner Steve Wozniak leaving the company as well as being kicked out himself by his own board of directors. Jobs stepped in years later to begin a critical restructuring of the company's product line when it began faltering without his vision and leadership.

          I agree with your whole post except for that statement,

          It may only be the top 1% - I don't have any way of knowing how many - but there are certainly many of us that make "a significant source of income" as Amazon associates. You make some strong points in your post, but to imply that there are no Amazon affiliates that make a lot of money is just not true.

          It may be true in the coming months.

    If you're going to be an affiliate, or even an employee, you will always be vulnerable to management decisions. In my early days I invested a lot of time and energy into the minisite templates Amazon provided. I'll have to check the Wayback Machine to see if there's still a trace of them now.

    I also sold books on Amazon and did some affiliate selling up until a few years ago. Started again because I always wanted to own a bookstore and encountered the API changes. Not particularly thrilled with that decision either.

    So, for the time being, I'm basically copying and pasting and rewriting and adding book review links here and there. Still, most of the information you can find on Amazon. Maybe I'm doing it as an SEO challenge. Maybe it's simply the thrill of building another business, no matter how shaky the foundation.

    Fact is, the affiliate income will be negligible but I will probably be building other sites with a book-oriented foundation. In real life I sell high ticket products so I am not dependent on the Amazon sales.

      Love this idea, and many a Warrior has seen their business empires washed away by a typhoon of algorithm changes because they built their castles in the sand of a beach they did not own.

      Affiliate marketing could be your dream career, it has been for many, but just keep in mind, unless you have control, you are probably just a convenient employee for NOW.

      A different choice which can be made is to be a creator, controller of your own stuff.

    Yes niche sales could go down.
    I doubt if the customer experience will improve as the lowest price goods
    are often not the best.
