PoD Ideas

Print on Demand (PoD) marketing ideas.

PoD Marketing applies to both online and offline.

Online there are numerous websites that sell t-shirts, caps, coffee cups, etc. Offline as well with some exceptions. For the most part, both are profitable and the profit margins are determined by the marketing. At least that is what I have discovered.

One thing that determines a profitable PoD business starts with "creative minds" supported by "excellent graphic designers" and ends with PoD Marketers.

Over the years I have found that I can hire "excellent graphic designers" and rub shoulders with "excellent Marketers" in this very forum. However, one important element is missing and I have learned that element is more important than the others... Creativity.

A Creative Mind (Creativity) is what all good companies seek. After all, excellent graphics artists are easy to source theses days, Fiverr is an example. The PoD Creative Mind is not easy to source and when a company does obtain one - they tend to take very good care of them.

"Freelancers with the creativity to meet the markets demand are in high demand."

Here is what I know about myself. First, I am not a graphics designer. Second, I love messing with graphics. Kinda like a fisherman that loves to fish, but does not eat fish, lol.

What I do for creativity, inspiration, etc. is nothing new. I love to sit at malls, flea markets and auctions observing everybody, everything and anything that makes my imagination get off the porch. Sometimes I jot down ideas and at other times I make a sketch.

Later, I love to crank out amateur (that is what I am) designs on Microsoft Paint and GIMP. This is what I call PoD Ideas.

Then there comes a time that you may want to know if you have a winner or loser. First, I personally feel that if anyone has an idea or two and takes action is a... winner. On the other hand, if that idea does not agree with the market then you do not have a loser, yet for another time maybe. In that event just move on to the next idea and keep on trucking.

Hey, the day will come.

Care to share some of your PoD Ideas? Look, they don't have to be perfect. They only need to get your idea across. Remember, PoD companies seek creativity almost everyday.

I'll starts with a few of my lame ideas to break the ice.

Here is one. There is a small story behind this idea. In the news it was reported that dogs and even rats can detect COVID 19. Why not create a PoD t-shirt and see where it goes.

    bcs evrywan real choosy 'bout slogans an' designs.

    Mass market EZ Ts can prolly fly outta the print shops like the Sock Weavah Gals of Bremen could nevah imagine.

    But if'n you want zeitgeist drippin' offah your torso, for sure the magic is in the ink rather than the fabric.

    Natchrlly, as a Princess, I go for classy stylin' without too much overt messagin' beyond swan brooch cost more than your house (hey I jus' jokin' bcs it is actschwlly a duck), but I know the whole 'heart on sleeve' ethos has extended to proclamations from pec.

    Dunno ... evrywan wantsta broadcast sumthin'.

      In many ways I consider it to be a mixture of expressing one's own Ingenuity and Intuition. To me that is a good thing.

    I can't offer a lot of value on this, as this is not an area I have worked in, yet at least!

    But I fully agree with taking action, if it doesn't work out the first few times, you will still have learnt something every time and improve next time.

    Taking imperfect action everyday is key to success.

      Me, I can't count the times I made mistakes and also learned from those mistakes. Maybe that is what drives us to be better. Some mistakes here - some success there - and many a time that I revisited projects "work-in-progress" based on mistakes to eventual success.

      Can't speak for others when it comes to "where do you get your design ideas?" because I think it comes from within a person's imagination.I could be wrong.

        The problem with just coming up with your own ideas is that this model doesn't scale and you're limited by your awareness or non-awareness of trends.

        This is the problem I see with POD but thanks to the inspiration of this thread, I'm inspired to investigate AI-based meta data-based 'idea sources.'

        The great thing about the Internet is that the more people use the Web, the more they leave clues as to their preferences

          What do you mean by "this model doesn't scale" and you're limited by your awareness or non-awareness of trends.

          This is where a Marketer excels. Say, one more companies offer to pay you for your works (PoD Ideas) based on a trend.

          Remember, you own the works - they do not own the works. You have all of the marketing leverage - and they know it.

          To scale what you do is offer "limited resell rights".

          When they buy 'limited resell rights" they stand to earn the lion's share of income and they will accept your offer quick because it is a trend. That is how you scale your PoD Ideas be it a trend, special event, or just creative works,

    Innovation is the word. I occasionally work for innovation minds and I am always perplexed at how they help clients re-engineer themselves. So if you are able to think out of the box and create something that your competitors are not offering to their customers you will win.
