Doing the tough things first

I have a motto I call "No PIE" - It stands for Phone, Internet and Email. The first hour of my day is cleaning up the stuff I didn't finish, (or more likely, put off), yesterday before checking my email, return calls etc. Takes discipline, but really pays off!

Good motto, it pays out to be organized, if not you could get overwhelm and productivity suffers a lot.

    Keep on the good work.

    How ironic.
Today I procrastinated all morning because I would not let myself go online until I had cleaned up my office for 1 hour.
Joining this forum is the reward.
    Thanks for the reminder.

If it helps you to get organised then it is a good one.

My day begins with E P S and ends with E P S. The entire middle is I. "S" is responding and posting on social media, incidentally.

The key, to me, is to not let things distract you, which is why email, phone calls and social have set times only at the very beginning and very end of the day. Those three things will throw your day out of whack more than anything else if you constantly let them. To continually make progress, I need to spend the bulk of my day on website-related stuff and turn off the other distractions.

My motto is "No Excuses". No T.L.A. (Three Letter Acronyms) are needed.

Whatever it takes to reach daily bottom line goals drives action.

Excellent motto! Seems like I never complete my to-do list for the day, always more work to be done. This will really help make sure I get the most important things done before getting sucked in to returning emails.

well why not go to bed an hour later or after you finsh everything you needed to do on that day ..

apparently just one day of that and you will be caught up and when you wake up every day you will only have the work you needed to get done that day to do.. not tid bits from the day or days before ..

yes but that's not what he was talking about if I understood his post right.
Because he is not doing the important task first he just finishes things which he did not do the day before.

It's always best to handle the tough things first especially early in the day when you have the most willpower.

I do this when I get up first thing in the morning. If I try to tackle the tough things later in the day it's usually harder for me. I also try to avoid email too early in the day as this can truly slow you down.

Hit the big things first and then cruise for the rest of the day.

    Good point, OP

If I may add, one technique that helps me POWER THROUGH tough but necessary tasks is the POMODORO technique

Step 1: Break down the task into parts

Step 2: Give yourself a short amount of time to do each part

Step 3: Time yourself going through each part

Step 4: Give yourself less time as you go from one similar part to the next

This technique has enabled me to EXPLODE my productivity

Start your day with your list of things to do and work your list, cross off as you complete. At the end of the day, things not completed get put on the top of the list for tomorrow.

I use a very sophisticated process, a simple yellow pad from the dollar store

I once knew a successful realtor back in the day that used a daytimer, again he was very successful. His prior day calendar was always scratched away with things he completed or moved to the next day but his current day was always a list of things to do.

Simple process I followed from that day, he sold millions in real estate.

He used a daytimer, I use a simple yellow pad from the dollar store LOL

Try to start your day doing the big stuff at the beginning of your day and the fun stuff after.

    Follow the money!
