Why Don't You See This Being Done With Emails/Autoresponders?

I don't think I've ever seen this done.

Attaching a file to an email that gets sent out to your list. For example, attaching a pdf file.

There has to be a reason I haven't seen this done. Spam filter? People may think it's a virus? Something else?

Obviously you can send them a link that takes them to your site to download the file. But I'm curious why no one attaches them in the actual email. I'm guessing I'm missing something obvious.

I have done it before with some results. It was a while ago so I cant remember exactly howmany came from that method... If anyone can elaborate it would be appreciated.

I've see that done but very rarely (but not in IM niche).

    Reasons?

You already mentioned them in your post

My reasons for not attaching anything in the eMails I send to my list

    1. Let's say that I create a PDF, I attach it and I send it. If a subscriber points me to a mistake from that PDF, what do I do? Send another one to the list? If I only sent the link, I can fix the error by uploading the correct PDF.

    2. If I send an eBook, with MRR rights, for free, you'll ask yourself why do I do that? What's my gain from it? But, if I point you to a download page, with ads on it, the answer is clear : I get money from advertising, instead of charging you for that eBook.

    3. I can't show you an One Time Offer, if you already downloaded the eBook from the attachment.

    4. Some subscribers simply don't know to open attachments, while other will not notice them.

    5. I can't send a 50 MB by eMail, even as an attachment, but I can easily put it on my webpage.

    6. If I make the eMail bigger, some people, using slow internet connection, will have a hard time reading that eMail.

    7. The subscriber might run out of space because of that attachment.

    8. The spam filter might not treat right the attachment (mark as spam, flag it as a virus - sometimes, you want to offer a script, which comes in exe format).

You bring up some good points. Especially the one about if there is an error and then having to resend the whole list. Thanks for your response.

But the rest of your reasons, in my case, wouldn't be an issue. But they are still valid points to consider.

The only thing I was thinking about doing this for is to send a pdf (less than 300K) to my list. Actually, it would be several of them since it would be part of a free email course spread out over a few days.

I thought about just sending the content in the email itself. But some of them are rather lengthy. So in that case I'd rather just direct them to my site to view it and download the pdf.

But then I would have to create a separate page for each day's lesson. Boo who, I know.

Plus, this was a curiosity thing as well.

I do this with my list - when they sign up I send them their free Ebook as a PDF attachment, direct to their email.

I feel as though it increases their trust of me, since I'm not requiring to jump through even more hoops to get what was promised to them. It's enough that they already had to navigate their way through double opt-in.

It's worked great for me so far.
