Hey Warriors,

what is your outcome for having/wanting an IM business? a few examples might be:

To be rich
To have freedom
To be your own boss
...

For you what is it that you want?

To ensure that me and my loved ones will no longer ever have to spend one minute doing something that we don't want to do or for the benefit of anyone who doesn't deserve it. So I guess that's a little of all 3.

But if I had a choice between being really rich if I work super hard, or just being able to retire young on a modest income, I know which one I'd choose. Now if I accidentally become super rich really fast and then can retire young anyway, that would be super, too.

Fair warning: It's possible I'm arguing with you because I have nothing better to do.

I'd have to say that it's for multiple reasons.

For one, I want a business that can be moved. If your business is too dependent on a local market, you may be stuck where you are. You could take the risk moving--and the severity of that risk will depend on how good or bad things are--but there's a big unknown as to how well you would do in a different area. Sure, you could do market research, but there is still a leap of faith involved. On the other hand, if you ship products or deliver them electronically, or not even have any products of your own, you can pick up and go with relative ease because, to your customers, it doesn't matter much where your business is physically located.

For another, it's to reach a broader audience. Even if you do or sell things well locally, there's a limit to the market, especially if you have a product or service that appeals to a general or wide ranging audience.

And there is an appeal to creating something once and have it sell almost on auto-pilot online, so that you can build a steady stream of income and not have to keep focusing on the same thing. You can come back and do updates, of course, but you're not stuck trying to sell the same thing to people day after day. You just set it up and move on. Granted, it's not quite that easy, but it is easier than selling a product in the "real" world where automatic methods are not as readily available or useful.

A fair question, and one that in recent weeks has been much on my mind.

I think what it's really about for me... shallow as this may seem... is that I'd like to log onto a forum and post something, and have people go "holy crap, is that really YOU?!"

The money doesn't really matter. The niche doesn't really matter. I just want a following. I want a lot of people out there talking about me and wondering what I'm going to do next.

      For me it's #2 and #3.

      That guarantees #1 for me...

      Hey,

And what is that following gonna give you?

      Have fun

Honestly, I don't care. It doesn't matter whether they ever buy anything, or hire me, or whatever. I just want to walk into places and have people say "dude, I think that's him, go ask."

I'm just an attention whore, really.
