The Best Days and What to Sell August through December 2020

New to online selling and need to know what will be selling August through December 2020? Maybe you have an eCommerce store or you sell on eBay, Craigslist etc. it is to your advantage to focus your buying and selling on the upcoming holidays and special events.

Corporations and organizations refer to this time as Q4 or 4th Quarter of the year which traditionally starts on October 1 and ends on December 31st. Online Marketers(us) also refer to this time a Q4, however we often start August 1 and end January 31.

Why, two simple reasons really. The first being we often buy what we are going to sell one month before the sale date and the second reason is we often extend our buy/sale dates one additional month. And there is a good reason why we extend the buy/sale date being that savvy buyers know to buy goods at a discount after the traditional sales.

That said here is a quick list of Holidays, Special Sales Days and some tips thrown in that will help with online sales.

Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2020

Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov 26, 2020

Black Friday, Friday, November 27, 2020

Cyber Monday, Monday, November 30, 2020

Christmas Day, Friday, Dec 25, 2020

September

Things people will buy:

Outdoor furniture and grills. Labor Day ends grilling season, so expect discounts on everything you'd use for outdoor entertaining.

Important sales days:

Labor Day. Clothing left over from back-to-school sales will be on sale, as will appliances and mattresses.

October

Things people will buy:

Older iPhones. Apple usually announces its newest phones in September and ships them in November. So look for discounted older models in October.

Halloween decor. Many buyers will wait until the last minute (a few days before Halloween), and you'll find spooky decor on sale as Christmas decorations start to take over.

Important sales days:

Columbus Day. Monday, Oct. 12. Fewer workers get the day off, but some retailers still offer sales on clothing, home goods and mattresses.

Things people will buy:

TVs and electronics. Thanks to Black Friday sales and pre-Black Friday sales, which start early in the month, November is the month to buy TVs, smart home devices, tablets, computers and smart watches.

November

Important sales days:

Black Friday. Traditionally, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, but it's expanded into a week-long event that has even consumed the entire week of Thanksgiving.

Cyber Monday. Nov. 30 this year, Cyber Monday offers online deals and typically replays many of the deals offered on Black Friday. It's also known for clothing and travel deals.

December

Things people will buy:

Toys and games. As Christmas approaches, retailers start discounting toys and games to avoid getting stuck with them after the holidays.

Important shopping days:

Super Saturday. The Saturday before Christmas (and days surrounding it) are filled with last-minute deals.

New Year's Eve. After-Christmas and New Year's sales typically run from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1.

Happy Holiday Sales

  • I also think that with the Covid situation and people staying at home more this year, that will result in more purchases of kitchen cooking accessories/gadgets, exercise equipment, home office equipment, pet gifts and video gaming accessories.

  • Great post, Jeffery! Many a good businesses / cash-generation idea for marketers of all stripes in here.

I agree with craigsposterpro on Covid changing the distribution/kinds of things that might get purchased this year, too ... an enterprising/new/nimble eCommerce person would do well to start with any one of those categories (kitchen, fitness, home office, pets, gaming). IMO the "cooking from home for the first time" and "fitness from home" niche's are also conducive to new video courses...

  • For each of those months people will be trying to make money to make purchases and make money to pay for debts from purchases.

Great for us if we can give them knowledge for new income streams.

Also even with reduced physical Gym participation people will be drawn to sign up/purchase something Fitness oriented for 2021.
