Why should marketers pay attention to Quora?

A new article on Search Engine Journal looks at why Quora can be a great place to start when creating awareness, building website authority, and launching marketing campaigns.

Quora is that top-ranked (one of the most popular 400 websites globally in terms of visits) question and answer site - if you don't know about it, you're either a time traveler from the middle ages or you've been living under a rock for a long time. The author of this article points out how it can be a great place to provide meaningful communication with and create awareness among consumers.

Not only that, but you can actually improve your search engine ranking dramatically too, by concentrating on building site authority through Quora. In fact, many suspect that because of the question and answer format - combined with Google's love of an answered query - the search engine giant and Quora are a natural fit. That's why Google ranks Quora so high, and why you can build authority by using the site in the right way. The article is well worth a read just for that reason.

You can link to your site on Quora without penalty, but it's essential to use the forum properly to be successful. If you provide links in the context of also providing help, that will go down just fine.

Matt Cutts used to work at fighting spam for Google, so he knows a thing or two about ranking. He's also posted 2,800 answers on Quora, so he's a good guy to get answers from:

"I had read a book called The Cluetrain Manifesto that included a story of an employee at United Airlines answering questions and helping people. Later I saw a few people discussing Google on a webmaster forum, including a few conspiracy theories like 'If you buy Google ads, you'll rank {higher, lower} on Google.' I asked Google's PR team if it would be okay if I occasionally answered some questions or debunked misconceptions on that webmaster forum, and they said yes. So I registered an account as "GoogleGuy" on Oct. 8, 2001, and started replying and answering questions in my free time. I think I eventually chalked up 2800+ posts on that forum."
Basically, goodwill gets your company a great rep with Google. Making an effort to supply that goodwill is well worth your time, and Quora is well worth considering too.

I guess you should just take a look at Matt Cutts profile to see how he optimized his profile. Furthermore, just start searching for topics you'd like to answer to and then start answering them very well.

By wery well I mean that it's not a 40 words reply. Just take a look at some of the bigger questions and see how long the answers are - they can be more than 1.000 long.

Fill each details which are required like employment details, study and other things.
Quora will also show points which you should completed.

      Hi Spartan14,

How long is your typically answer when you include a link?

Same here. It's definitely slow-going. Even so, it's worth leaving a mark and, at the very least, mentioning your business without including links. If people find your answer valuable, I find that it can really pay off in terms of driving traffic to your website. Granted, it's basically impossible to track leads that come in from posts without links...

Quora can sometimes feel like waste of time, but it's not! My advice: do it. You won't be sorry, as long as you make sure your posts provide true value for readers. The impact you have through your answer is what will be the driving force behind those readers turning into customers.

Like most things I study who is having huge success and observe their strategies, follow their funnels. They show us the way.

This should be done before you even sign up. There is a smooth way to get your links clicked and approved for long time lead generation.

How you design your profile how often you link, do you come off as opportunist or helpful there are alot of factors to consider my friend.

I found a way around it.

Most of the time I only mention in my answers that they should check out my bio link to get more info and sometimes I just link my own quora profile so that they can find my bio link easier.

  • To echo what some others have said here, I think Quora's great for establishing name authority/recognition over time (James Altucher used to answer tons of disparate questions there, for example); less so for directly and efficiently driving leads to your business or website. It's a long-term play that works best for folks who want to build their name brand.

  • We only started seeing traffic through Quora after working on it steadily for a year. You need to contribute valuable content if you want to see good traffic come in.

The good thing about the traffic coming in through Quora though is that they're mostly warm leads. We're seeing good conversion from it. I just wonder if it can deliver the same once we pay for ads.

Yes, Quora is excellent for link building (no-follow) and referral traffic. My suggestion is - do not just drop your link if you find it relevant to the question. Try to write at least 300+ words article & cite your link within the article. It will look natural & no penalty will come from Google.

I had my first real success online right on this very forum utilizing a signature and WSO combo.

There are people making serious bank on Medium, Quora, Youtube, even old eBay with the power of lead generation right now.

Time and money. Some can go to Canva and make graphics and use them on Pinterest and Insta and create an income stream all totally free.

Well like it was already mentioned couple times, I definitely think that quora is a good way to drive traffic to your website, offers, brands or whatever.

People are looking for help and if you can provide them value first and if your business or products proposition matches their needs, you can definitely drive high targeted leads to your offer.

Always give value to the leads first however.

Quora is the new Yahoo Answers. You can gain plenty of traffic from it as long as you are not spamming and adding quality answers and questions to position yourself as an authority/guru.

This was a great read with some very insightful information about the online question giant. It reminds me a lot of yahoo answers.

Quora has been a goldmine for some time now. Going on there and answering questions on your topic is the best way to get some traffic to your site. I hear some people saying that they get their links deleted quickly. Well, if you aren't providing enough value with your answers then you can expect this to be the case.

Take some time and put up some well thought out answers and they will stick. Maybe not all of them, but most of them will stick. Just remember when you are posting on there to always think about providing answers that bring value to the people who will be reading them. Once you do this you'll start to build some authority and start seeing some traffic to your site.
