Does the brand name really matter?

Okay so I'm planning on starting a website in the real estate niche & my partner owns an abstract five letter .com domain that is easily pronounceable & that looks good in text. Since this is an abstract name, it does not really scream "Real Estate". I'm still not sure whether to go with a said name or to go with a Geo domain-like [country]realestatedotcom. One main reason I want to go with the abstract name is that every competitor site in this niche uses very similar names to the Geo domain I mentioned previously.

Would love to get you guys' opinion.

    Another option is something like RealtyHub.com or PropertyHome.com etc.

    Whatever you do, pick a domain that you and your partner is 100% satisfied with. Using one just temporarily would be a bad choice as re-branding will be costly and time consuming. Your domain name is your internet real estate, relocating is never convenient. Good luck.

    Exact match domains for the keyword have lost the value they once had. So getting a DogTrainingForCommonCommands.com won't help you rank all that great for the keyword.. So I would go for the easily brandable one, for longer gains. Once the name is known, it will be easier to get mouth to mouth clients..

    I prefer brandable domain names, even if they have no meaning or lacks the keyword. It's a bonus if the keyword or a part of it is in the domain. Always try to get all the social media handles with the same name. It looks more cool that way.
    Once you start publishing awesome content and build some links, there is no difference between exact match domain and random domain. You can always create articles with your keywords in the URL with any domain.

    Well, exact match domain is not what is used to be decade ago. People tends to go more toward a brand name and have that brand name shared and known through different promotions methods.



    Even if it doesnt scream Real estate, honestly it doesnt matter a lot but it depend on the strategy you want to apply afterward.

    Build a brand first and foremost then create a unique/clever domain name that relates to your niche. Make sure it is easy to spell/remember/pronounce.

    A good name is very hard to come by, and a lot of quality brand names weren't even words before the brand. This clearly shows, your name doesn't matter. These brands made their names relevant. The fact is, all three of these companies started at nothing, nobody knew what their name meant.

    If you have a 5-word domain name people can easily remember, go for it. Does Zillow sound like any real estate related name? Zillow made people think real estate when they think Zillow, not the other way round.
    Build a good brand name by providing a great product and you will be remembered for it.

    Millions are spent on a brand name *just* to come up with an idea.

    Brands are meant to be memorable and that's the perfect re-targeting.

    Burger King for example appeals to certain emotions and you want to grab a bite just to prove to yourself, how special you are being treated royally. Is it memorable?

    Absolutely. Brand names makes a considerable amount of difference. Since you are in partnership with your friend, you ought to communicate your concern and make yourself heard. This way you will arrive at a mutual decision.
    As for the brand name, go for a name that rings a bell and is equally innovative. Also, choose something that is unique to your niche.

    it should be easy to remember thats for sure, but I dont think it should be that brand name should matter more than quality you provide.

    This is what I personally think. It all starts with the name, this is what your customers will initially see and potentially stick in their minds. Whenever I choose a domain name I always sit and think long and hard about it. Yes you can switch it with something different somewhere down the line but first you need to invest in your prestige! To answer your question, the brand name is of huge importance! I am wishing you all the best of luck, let us know how you go.
