A new article on Search Engine Journal reports that Pinterest just published its seasonal report on which search trends and topics are seeing the most interest from users on the platform. The report has been updated to include data that predict what will be hot in the fall months leading out of 2020. It does that by comparing search volume this year with the results for the same time last year.

"Each year, the start of September and the beginning of autumn is seen by many people around the world as a 'second new year'. It's a time when making small improvements, resetting goals and habits, and starting a fresh drive to create healthy routines feels more achievable and more personal than New Year's resolutions."

Social media marketers out there might find this information useful when they're looking to define campaigns and content for the next few months, so it's probably going to be well worth a read. Given the events of 2020 so far, it might come as little surprise to many that Pinterest is using phrases like 'second new year.' In fact, searches for 'Positivity' are up by 64% when compared to 2019:

"Pinners continue to reflect on personal growth, improvements and mental wellness, with significant spikes in 'positivity' in particular (+64%*). Life goals and travel plans have been replaced with personal projects - whether it's home improvement or self-improvement."
It'll also come as no surprise to some that more searches are connected with in-home activities this year. Even so, for marketers, there's a lesson to be learned from the obvious. Things - and interests - have definitely changed when compared to 2019. Data like this could prove to be very useful for the rest of the year. There is way more information and a nice breakdown of the stats in the original article, so I advise you to give it a read.
