Do you make money online? Huh?

Hello fellow warriors,

My quest to make money online started on February/09 and I am now comfortable enough that I quit my job about a month ago.

But every time I tell someone that I make money online, mainly just selling information and not any physical product, people look at me with disbelief and get not grasp the concept...

Why do you think is so hard to make people believe that IM is profitable (Even people that I try to recruit to help me, does not believe me..)

In the other hand... less competition the better.

    Lucky ,

    Congrats to you!!

Most people don't believe you since they think that making money online is equal to not working. They don't know that you must work at it and find the winning combination!!

I tell people I'm a consultant. It's a more familiar concept to them than trying to explain how I sell information on the net.

That's a good idea, I'll probably say that as well.

I'm still in a background where a 9-5/$11-hr/M-F is exalted, but I'm just getting to the point where my boyfriend/family don't really question what I'm doing online - they just know I'm making *some* money. When I bring in more noticeable figures though, THEN they'll start asking questions >

Lots of people have run across some type of online MLM crap or have a friend involved with MLM crap, that didn't make any money and that's what they think is online business.

I know what you mean. I've been telling people I work online for a while now, yet they still regularly ask me whether I've found a job yet. They don't seem to think working online is a job.

There are also a lot of people who think that working online means scamming people. Of course there are scammers in any business, but I make money in completely legitimate ways.

It's kind of annoying having to explain yourself, but at least we can be proud of ourselves in creating the kind of life we want to have

I tell people that I trick people into wanting to buy things they never heard of before. If they ask how, I say either "magic" or "it's my superpower". My business cards say "Persuasion Engineer" though.

But what's funny is that at least for right now, I DON'T make money online. Offline people pay me to help THEM make money online. Unless you consider that I get paid via PayPal to be "making money online", lol.

The problem is not with the unbelieving people, they have heard stories of people being dupped on the net so when you say you make living through the net they look at you as one of those scam people.

I actually have been trying to make living on the net too but have got my fingers burnt quite a number of times. If not for forums like this straight people are difficult to come by on the net.

I usually tell people I "Work In Marketing"...then I change the subject.

Sometimes I explain it to people using broad generalizations, but usually not.

It's a lot easier these days. When I first started back in 1996 I had to explain to people WHAT THE INTERNET WAS.

    No really...

At least I don't have to do that anymore!

I reckon its mindset! People cant grasp what they dont understand...and thats fine too. I also get the blank stare...what do you mean by that ...sort of look, but most of the time they just dont see how you can actually make money, they cant grasp the concept...and they nod off to sleep if you try to explain...so hey, let them go to the 9-5 each day...

To me its the best darn way Ive ever seen of making a living...lovin' it!

I make some decent coin from the intrawebs, though I'm sad (not really sad) to say that the biggest chunk of my profits go back out the door in the form of donations to non-profits.

      Back-story:
A buddy and I made a bet about a year ago that if either one of us ever got to the point where we could "quit our day jobs" that we'd donate 75% of our first years profits to a worthwhile cause. Kinda as a "thank you" to the Karma Gods for blessing us.

I've had my hand in several sites since, some profitable, some not so much. The best luck I've had to date is my current main project and we've only been generating decent flow for about a month and a half. We're finally over what it'd take to quit my day job (Clerk) assuming that our numbers hold but alas, I cannot. As I have promised my portion to others for the next several long months heh.

It's worth it though. We're seeing alot of good things going on and spreading alot of good vibes. Even having a little bit of fun in the process!

Back in 2005, When I got my first cheque from Paypal (now I withdraw direct 2 bank), I found it difficult 2 make others understand "how money can be transacted via an e-mail". People even asked "am i doing sth illegal" !! But now after 3 years, most of my friends and family are convinced that "making money online" is a possible stuff and they asked "How to" so they too can! and am happy that some of them are really succesful in it!

    I will start by what you mean in the other hand is less competion;
As Henry Ford said : "A market is never saturated whit a good product, but it is very quickly saturated whit a bad one." this is something you may consider when you are doing business and then don't worry much as long as satisfy your clients. As to mae them beleive you, they should since they see that you left your job,if they don't who lose????

    Good luck

"If it's too good to be true, it is"

and that's why it is so difficult to make people believe that you make money online doing minimal work (in their eyes).

    Congratulations Lucky500!

It's amazing to see someone who quit the day job the same year they started internet marketing.

You know, I get the same response when I tell people that I'm an information marketer, they look at me funny and then they also can't grasp the concept and don't realize how the internet is changing lives for those who have the determination to make a difference every single day.

In the end it doesn't bother me because I know that I'm living the lifestyle that I desire while everyone else is stuck in the rat race for life.

People don't think I do anything all day, but

"making money online" sounds crazy to most of the people that don't know how it's done. For example, I had a conversation two days ago with a couple I met while on the beach in Bali...they dug deeper when I told them I'm an internet marketer and I talked about basic strategies with them (keyword research, SEO, etc.). They seemed pretty impressed.

They started to get the idea of this whole "make money online" thing, but I think the convo only went this far along because I mentioned that IM was financing my travels...a convo like this back home would have gone something like "what do you do?", "I'm make money on the internet", "sounds cool...".

    Keep at it.

I usually get a similar response...

The other day I was at California Pizza Kitchen talking to an older gentlemen who worked in construction, I told him I make money online marketing information and I'm working to double the sales I currently receive over the next several months.

His reply: I've heard stories of people making tons of money online...

We talked a little more and he bid me a 'good luck with that'.

I feel many people are aware of the power of the Internet to create extra cash but most don't see it as a way to: Freedom.

Which many Warriors here on this forum have obtained or are aiming to obtain.

If they knew how easy it was (after the hard work) to do it I think many more people would actually take the time to learn and implement the strategies out there for making cash online. And create a lifestyle around it.

But like the old saying goes: You can't sell steak to a vegetarian. You can't tell people how easy it is to make money online and expect them to jump in enthusiastically.

Competition I'm not worried about and never will.

      Absolutely love this thread!

I remember when I first went into affiliate marketing about 3 years ago and told some friends in my 'day job' about it, they also could not see how this could be a business

But as time went on they noticed, I think, that the living from pay check to pay check desperation that goes with any job was not there with me anymore. And I started to enjoy my day job more because I was and am not dependent on it for an income

Now these same people ask me about affiliate marketing and two have started their own niche sites

I love my day job so have no intention of giving it up but it's nice to be financially independent of it

I suppose what I am trying to say is that when people see the difference having a successful affiliate marketing business makes in your life, you really do not need to convince them that it works
