After responding to another post, my wheels started spinning.

There seems to be a train of thought that you need a certain amount of money to succeed in IM.

I am on the fence here, but honestly, if you have no IM skills and are just starting out...is there an amount of money that will guarantee success?

If I gave you $5k today, could you turn it into $6k...$10k?

My gut tells me "no", with the occasional exception.

anyway, you get the idea of what I'm after.

    Hi Keith

i dont believe money can buy you success online at all even though im sure there are some warriors on here that may disagree with me!!!

Im working with a client right now who has paid me money on a regular basis for his business but his skills are so bad that i dont believe he will make a living online within the next few months like i would expect from other newbies that have no income to put down in the first place.

I have a great guy in brazil who hadnt made a penny then after exchanging some emails i gave him some ideas etc and from a month after he has been making $2000 a month from little work.

The difference to me with having money to put down is what you can spend it on if you are savvy with your business. For example spending it on things like advertising instead of waiting for free advertising to pay off. Buying premium domains instead of getting a brand new one or upgrading software etc.

At the end of the day i believe that anyone can make a living online with an outlay of just $100 you really dont need to spend a lot of money. I also think that financial security can happen after a year. As to get your business built and understand internet marketing can take this long.

good luck with your internet marketing plans

    kind regards

    Hey Keith,

    My way of thinking is,

YES, but there is a BIG BUT!

Not everyone could do it! I believe with funds, depending on the amount, you could pay others to do the job you cant do (outsourcing), but I think growth would be hindered as you try and learn the business!

Luck is also involved obviously, buying into the right or wrong things when you are just starting out could drip that money away like a full blown hosepipe on a hot summers day, if you pick the wrong things!!!

So, it would be a fine line between making money and losing money quickly!

Site flipping would be a model where this could be possible, buying a well established money making site could be a good stepping stone to success quickly especially if the seller show them the ropes and if it is fairly hands off!

I believe it is possible though!

No, there are not any guaranteed ways to make money. If you want guarantees stick with CD's.

If you have 5k that does open up your options. You could buy an existing site off of FLippa that has established profits, but you have to do a ton of questioning before buying a website.

    Keith,
If you gave me $5k today I would generate $5k a month for you starting within 60 days..

    With that said:

Can you buy success ? well define success because success is what one determines his/her own success to be. Some may make that determination based upon money, while other will base it on the amount of customers, while some others will base it on the goals that they have set for themselves and met.

Success can not be measured by one person alone.

Does it cost money to start a business ? No.. You can start a business 100% free.. There are free blogs, free advertising methods, and etc. Many of us actually started with nothing and started on a free space many many moons ago.

The only thing that can guarantee success is you ....

lol, I wasn't actually talking about myself(hope that was made obvious), but hell, $5k to make $5k a month within 60 days?? PM me, I'm always looking for opportunities.

I do agree with the definition of "success" being an individual thing. I guess I think the common definition of success(in IM) being able to maintain a sustainable income soley online that allows you to do this full time.

And I also agree with you and others that the only thing that can guarantee success is you and the effort you are willing to put forth.

I guess it depends on how you define success. You can buy the services of every top marketer, product creator, writer, and coder on the Net for the right price. However, the key is producing a return on your investment.

Then I would say the answer is, more than likely, NO.

Money can make it easier to get started but some people may as well light it on fire for all the good it does them with regards to their business. No amount of money, a mentor, product or program can guarantee the success of an individual.

    Depends on "success" and "buy".

All business requires operating capital. The more the merrier.

Without skill it's pretty easy to squander $5k in start-up
capital. I've seen people squander a lot more. Not stupid
people either, just ignorant about what real effective
    marketing practice is.

Over a 10 year period 7 or more out of 10 start-ups throw
in the towel. Many fail in the first year. Many lose
hundreds of thousands of dollars. Many are run by people
who are not stupid, just ultimately clueless or unable to
    adapt to changing market conditions.

Most business people see marketing in a warped light
as well. They don't want to deal with it much - a perverse
    attitude, but it's prevalent.

In general, money doesn't ensure your success, but there's a big BUT. IF you have mounds of money and you know exactly WHO to hire, are properly educated on what you're doing, and know WHAT to spend all that money on, success is all but assured!

Unfortunately those are a lot of big IFs and many people will miss one or two crucial factors that will prevent them from achieving success. Money is a big factor though, IF you know what you're doing. It's like rocket fuel that can catapult you to the stars almost overnight if you do it right.
