How do I learn to write a high converting sales letter?

I am not so new to writing sales letters, I have written a few for my business. But I wanna get this skill 100%.

Are there books I can read, videos I can watch or just about any information that can really teach me the art of writing high converting sales letters especially for the IM niche

You should spend some time in the Copywriting forum and go through the information there. Also look up Dan Kennedy on the net and read his book The Ultimate Sales Letter: on Amazon.

Also view this thread in the offline section - https://www.warriorforum.com/offline...-big-fish.html

    Hi Maxdosh,
Every skill gets perfection by more and more practice. As you know much already, spend your precious time on this forum more specifically on the copywriting niche. There is much to learn here on this forum. Apply whatever you learn from here in creating high converting letters.
Generally, that piece of writing is persuasive which has some solution for the problems of the reader, and that you are communicating in a conversational tone.
You deliver what you promise and hence build your trust through the letter.

    Good times

Thanks but how do I know I am doing it right, when I practise and write, how do I get a rating from others saying "Yea, you got it right, or no this sucks" because I believe that is the best way to know I am on the right track.

tbh I would want always to plant a kiss on sumone's ass makes 'em turn round an' say thank you.

Long as you can ansah any "so, what else you got" question without recourse to smut, prolly your dialog begins.

Call me psychic, but I figure way smartah ansahs are imminent.

Writing a good copy is as a process which involves practice. The more you practice, the better you get with time.

One of my best ways to write a better copy or improve is by practicing and copying what great copywriters have done. Some experts advise that one should hand-write (literally) good adverts and copies. This is something that I have done before and found to be pretty effective. you search for popular advertisements or ad copies, then get a pen and paper and start scribbling every word in it.
There are many resources that you could consider to help you become a better copywriter. Some of the best copywriters like John Carlton have their letters all over, and you can grab a few and start hand-writing them.

I am pretty sure practicing through this method can improve your ad copies.

You should be doing A/B testing on your sales copy, always.

In A/B testing, you test different version of your content that have small variations like, changing a headline or sub-headline, changing a call to action, using a different image or colour, changing font type or size, changing your wording or changing your page format, etc.

You can A/B test almost anything.

Also, you should use an automated online tool for your A/B testing, like Google Optimise, and you need to use Google Analytics too. Google Optimise will use data from your Analytics provider to test the performance of your content to decide if they work best with your audience.

You aren't going to like this....

Learning how to write sales copy takes years of consistent study. Study the books on writing copy (they are cheap on Amazon.com and E0Bay. )

How do you know you are doing it right? You write a sales letter and people buy from you. That's the right answer.

Even expert copywriters can't tell if a sales letter (online or offline) will sell anything until they try it. They can just spot obvious mistakes that every newbie makes.

Me? I spent hundreds of dollars on books of proven sales letters and studied the letters looking for commonalities.

Then I went to the library and studied full page ads...and if they repeated after several months, I knew they were profitable.

And then...it took me two years of writing my own ads, before I started making any money at all on my copywriting skill.

Reading posts of copywriting tips isn't going to do it. Writing sales copy that actually sells something is an art that takes years of hard work and consistent effort. A few courses on writing copy, written by proven sales copy writers will help, but there is no quick path here.

I agree with Mabu, you can learn from Russel Brunson, has a lot of valuable knowledge to show you in copywriting. And you can also download a book called copywriting secrets from Russel Brunson.

Copywriting is the most important skill to write words that sell.

Some good books to take a look at are:

    Ca$vertising by Drew E. Whitman
The Ultimate Sales Letter by Dan Kennedy
The 16 word Sales Letter by Evaldo Albuquerque

Those three are some good books to give you more than what you need when it comes to writing copy. More than reading you need to practice your skills. Keep writing every single days more and more. Overtime your skills are going to improve.

What kills most aspiring writers is they spend more time reading about writing instead of actually taking the time to write.

This is a super valuable skill once you learn it but I agree with Claude Whitacre it will take time to learn to a short cut, it appears that handwriting other successful letters is recommended in books i have read as well, if you want to accelerate it, you will simply have to put more time into it making it your #1 focus for 1 year at a least, and have a budget to then start testing via ads to see what kind of results you and tnen tweak them for better results, of course you can also invest in intermediate advanced copywriter to coach you to speed up the process and oversee the work you are doing and critique it ...BOTTOM LINE IF YOU HAVE THE CASH YOU CAN SPEED UP THE LEARNING PROCESS ;>)

      Sigh.

Although I will agree that Copywriting is a valuable asset to have...you are right that it is a commodity (getting cheaper by the day) which can be easily bought, and in some cases, may suit the IMer to go that route.

Where you come up with the number ! focus for a year, sounds like something you read somewhere, and certainly NOT based on experience.

As to the OP, how about a different question for you. Instead of trying to write a high converting piece of copy...why not focus on getting a HIGH CONVERTING product, one which people are buying.

No doubt copy can make a difference, but from the way you framed the question, as if to say high converting copy is the way for IM.

Many of the biggest names in IM, (yes, they have good copy), but they also have the CRED, and sometimes that is all it takes to get high conversions.

There are a dozen Facebook groups with experienced IM copywriters in them you can learn from, but even here at WF, there are some good deals in WSO for IM copywriters to do that for you, and very reasonable rates.

One of the best ways to learn to write copy, is by selling something. TODAY. Not tomorrow, not in the future, but put up an offer somewhere people can see it. Then you can ask in Copy groups, forums and blogs for feedback...get as much as you can from either buyers or lookers of your offer who said no.

What exactly is HIGH CONVERSIONS? Is that a % or something, a given number? Maybe get

      A conversion

first, get ONE, before you do any tweaking and testing. But before that, get your head straight about what you want to learn from copy writing, and that will often lead you to the who to learn it from. Match your goals with the right person, it won't take you long to catch on.

A lot to digest in your post.

The OP asked about learning copywriting.

But it was the wrong question. And so far, only you have touched on it.

There is so much to do before you write a sales letter.

What is the demand for what you sell?
Who else is selling it (or something very much like it), and how do they sell it?
Have you studied their sales letters (online or offline)?
What specific problems does your offer solve that are important to the buyer?
What is the story? Every great sales letter has a compelling story.

But these (and other) questions would be asked by any copywriter you hired. And yes, on this forum they work pretty cheap. I've hired very good copywriters to craft a single page sales letter for just a few hundred dollars. These guys knock off these letters in their sleep.

An even cheaper and faster way to go is craft the structure of the sales letter, including bullet points and features...and just let a decent copywriter "edit" the piece and add better language.

        For the OP...
If you have to, just throw up a Youtube video, describing your offer and wait for a few sales.

It took me years to learn how to write copy well enough to really pay off. But during that time, I was still selling...still making money.

And GordonJ is right, there is so much more to making sales than just writing copy.

Such as finding an eager ready market that has proven that they buy these kinds of offers, studying the offers they have already responded to, and doing something that separates you from everyone else, a story, an appeal, a feature, a promise....something unique. And how do you lead the buyer to your offer? How do they find you? How do you find them?

But if you are thinking that writing a fantastic sales letter, and putting it on a website.....gets you sales all by itself? That's a long wait, my friend.

I think it's great that you want to expand your skills, Maxdosh.

But based on your above statement it might be wise to take a step back, and pause for just a second...

What do mean when you say you wanna get this skill 100% ?

Of course you can always get better at copywriting if you're dedicated to it, but there is no 100% in this game. There's only learning, testing, measuring results. And then trying to beat the control by learning, testing and measuring results. (rinse and repeat)

I'm just trying to save you from a little frustration. Because if you build your hopes around a false premise you'll likely be back here in a few weeks complaining about information overload, the mass of fake gurus on the internet, and wondering how to separate the truth from the hype.

As far as book recommendations... I can think of at least a dozen great ones. But I'll start with just a few. If you take them to heart they'll put you above 90% of copywriters today.

These books are old, which is why many newbies pass them up as being outdated and irrelevant. So all I can do is recommend them to you, and it'll be your choice to read them or not.

The first one is "The Robert Collier Letter Book". It was originally published around 100 years ago, and some of the language is a bit outdated (especially with the advertising examples), but the concepts are timeless.

Perhaps you've even heard some gurus out there talking about "understanding your target audience, and starting your copy by meeting people in the story they're already telling themselves about their own lives...?"

Well, this is the book where most of those gurus got it from (the rest of them got it from someone else who got it from this book).

Another great one is Victor O Schwab "How To Write A Good Advertisement". This one is practically a complete advertising / sales copy course in a single book. There's even a section with winning headline examples, and a short explanation of what made them work.

And based on your question about writing high converting sales letters for the IM niche, another good book for you would be Eugene Schwartz "Breakthrough Advertising". This one is a bit sophisticated (I've read it a couple times and still haven't grasped it all).

I think the most important concept in this book for you will be about discovering your markets level of awareness. Because you say IM niche, but that doesn't mean anything to me.

Overlooking the fact that IM is not really a niche (it's more of a broad industry) let's just focus on your markets level of awareness for a second...

If you're going after newbies and BSO (Bright Shiny Object) seekers, then a big, bold, fantastical promise could be the way to go. In which case we may want to build on the idea of "THE AMAZING NEW DISCOVERY THAT CAN MAKE YOU A MILLIONAIRE, PRACTICALLY OVERNIGHT, EVEN IF YOU HAVE ZERO EXPERIENCE".

Personally, I would never write for such an offer, but no matter how dirty it makes me feel I can't deny that it still works for some markets.

And if you're going after people who have tried IM without success, but they're not too cynycal or jaded yet, then we may want to lede with a more empathetic tone.

"If you've tried Internet Marketing in the past, but haven't seen the results you were hoping for... It's not your fault. There's so much bullshit advice out there from the so called gurus it's hard for anyone to know what's true and what's false.
But if you'll give me just 6 minutes I'll show you a no hype, no BS, step-by-step system that virtually guarantees... "

And if we're going after experienced marketers, then our lede can be a straight up offer. A way for them to bump their conversions with solid marketing techniques that are working right now, in the "real world".

Can see how all of these messages overlap a bit, but our core message is most powerful to the core market we're writing to?

The point is, when you say "IM niche" it doesn't mean anything. But if you tell me about your market, and where their lives are currently at, then I'll write you some copy that will get you results everytime.

    Too long - didn't read - summary...

    1. In copywriting there is no 100% - There's only continual improvement and trying to beat the control.

    2. Don't reject books from the old masters just because they're old. Because most of what the modern gurus talk about is nothing more than rehashed concepts that originally came from those older masters.

    3. After you're done learning all the formulas, templates and techniques, spend twice as much time learning about markets and people, and you'll be miles ahead of most of your competition.

Anyway, good luck with your adventure.

And remember, copywriting is a just tool. And like any tool, the more you practice with it the better you'll get.

I am going to give you some unorthodox comment; but boy.... if you can do this ill tell you; you'll shortcut your way to success in no time...

    1. Get a sales letter template
    2. Find a product that is already converting and selling
    3. Now write a sales letter using the template you got
    4. Send traffic to both the sales letter; the one you've written with template and original one.
If you haven't outranked ( by conversion/sales)the original sales letter with the one you've written with the template. You still need to improve your sales copy skills but you'll have a picture of what good sales copy looks like but you'll improve your copywriting skills by thousand percent...

Fortunately I was able to acquire a comprehensive course on the subject, but boiled down, THE way to get good at this craft - which is what it is, is to actually write them.

When I say that, do a Google search for 'Gary Halbert Letter' and download them.

This will not cost you anything.

Get a pen and paper and write these out by hand. Yes, you read that right. Write them out word for word by hand.
ALL of them that you can find. Look at what you wrote and why.

Then you will know how to write a sales letter 100%.

It took me about four months writing daily, then I started over...

  • First you have to notice that copywritting at a high level is a skill that involves time and practice; you can get there faster or take more time depending on how you do it : take a look at the last high selling products and see the content they wrote for their product.then you can approach (after you buy is better)
that seller and ask for swipes that he could give you or you can buy. This way you are learning from the best sellers that write their content and you will advance so much to get as good as top ones in time.
If you are good about it,you could get a high level writting in no time. But expect some time to improve your skill
