Will this be the start (finally)?

10 replies
Hello,

After spending the past three years learning absolutely everything I can about IM and copywriting, taking a bit of action (although probably not enough) and making a small amount of money, I've now teamed up with a business partner and am now even more determined and serious than ever to make this thing work and earn big.

So, we launch our first revenue stream in ten days' time. It's a content site with the intention of earning through AdSense and affiliate links. And the question is, will it work?

What do you think? Please can you have a quick look at our site and bear the following in mind: I still need to sort out the URLs so that they're search engine-friendly, I'll be adding an opt-in box at the top of the front page and also posting more content as the launch day approaches.

I really appreciate your time and any comments you may have.

The site is: london2012usefulinformationguide.com
Best wishes,

Paul Parry

    Nice looking website. I think you will do well.

    May I make a suggestion though. I believe the best way to promote a site like that is through Press Releases. Write up a huge press release and send it to places like CNN, MSNBC, your local new media, news papers and such. Some of them will pick up on the story and that should help a bunch.

    However I do have 1 disclaimer. I have been interviewed on national tv, and it did help some. I seen at the peak about 900 visitors per 10 minutes. However it quickly fell off and went back to normal traffic. However, my content was much different than yours, so your site may not fall back.

    Sincerely,

    Randy Thomas

    3 years? Dude - you should know EVERYTHING by now and be able to do more than anyone here!. You should create a product and sell it.

    You should build a huge list. You should... build 15 adsense sites!

    Thank you very much, Randy. I will certainly be writing press releases but I had only thought of PRWeb.com, so I'll defitnitely be sending them to those other places you suggest.

    Thanks again :-)

    Sharp looking website. In addition to sending out press releases, daily updates with good, solid content should keep people interested in your site (in addition to making Google happy). Good luck!

    Nice site

    As soon as Google sees it they will close your Adsense though
    you need a privacy policy
    A legal disclaimer including the FTC affiliate link disclaimer wouldn't hurt either
    (Just link to them in the footer.)
    I see you are not cloaking your affiliate links

    wonder if that will help or hurt?

    Generic Privacy policy I wrote you can alter to your needs:

    Winebuddy - You're right and I'm on it.

    One of the most important things I've learnt of late is to "Do and learn" rather than "Learn and do".

    Cheers!

    Paul,
    Dogscout is right on the money, you do need all the privacy policy et al. Even if you're based in the UK.

    The site looks good. A couple of suggestions.

    You need to make the header smaller. It's some of the most valuable real estate you have. Half the height would be fine. You may even me able to fit in one of those wide thin adsense blocks (I forget the exact dimensions).

    I would definitely get an optin box on their somewhere. Top right hand side is usually a good place.

    It could be because your site is new, but your some of your ad blocks aren't relevant.

    Make sure the Adsense spider knows what your page is really about.

    Put this around important stuff:
    <!- google_ad_section_start ->
    <!- google_ad_section_end ->

    And you can put this by sections you want ignored.

    <!- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) ->

    Hi Paul,

    I looked at the site...

    It is a nice site, but unless you are able to generate a ton of traffic - your business model will struggle to make any real revenue.

    An opt-in box will only be successful if you have a great product to offer for subscribers.

    Why put an opt-in box? To collect names? Great, but unless you have a game plan you will have a bunch of names that you send affiliate product offers to and an occasional product offer that you and your business partner come up with.

    Think much bigger and further ahead than that.

    I continually must keep my clients focused and help them develop a bigger plan.

    Your intentions are GREAT! The site is GREAT! Will you succeed? Only if you can see where you are headed in 3 more months and then 3 more years. If you are only hoping to make more money then you will have a tough time.

    Set some real goals and then put together a solid plan to succeed.

    Good Luck to You!

    Tom
