Wanting to create an eccomerce/review/authority website

hi everyone, long time lurker here.. Not entirely new to internet marketing, with that said I want to create a website kind of like etsy with the focus being on entrepreneurs meeting customers. I havent done much besides buy hosting and a domain name a few days ago. My website hosting is with bluehost, which i highly dont reccomend at all, (I need an ssl certificate and its taken two days, and still nothing)

My action plan so far is to start reviewing other entrepreneurs products on my website to gain organic traffic on google, mainly in the USA and take a small commission for any sales. But i dont want to be like other affiliate marketers, i want to focus on small time entrepreneurs that need help gaining traffic. I want to create a platform for them to meet potential customers.

I want this to work and be professional so I need WF's help.

My first question is how can i take a commission from small time entrepreneurs who dont have an affiliate program set up? (maybe charge them a one time fee?)

I guess also ill need some content ideas if anyone has any.

Also how can i set up and automate this whole process in the future? right now i want to be one doing everything and approving things so that it has a real feel to it.

my website isnt set up yet, still waiting on that SSL certificate, but im a blank slate for ideas if anyone has any... Will report back with any results..

Thanks, Chris

To take a commission for each sale, you need to have a way of tracking.

And you'd have to be responsible for the sale. Which means, you have to get small business owners let you represent them. Which means, you have to contact them and convince them that you, who they do not know, is a good person to represent their business.

Are you going to limit yourself to small business owners whose products or services require a simple sale process or would you work with, say, mortgage brokers, which require you to be licensed too?

Alternatively, you can get paid for visitors or phone calls you get them.

Or, you can rent them a website; you don't get paid per sale, you get a flat monthly fee.

As regards hosting, I use siteground. Quite happy with them.

PS Reviewing other people's products will not get you organic traffic. You need to market it (SEO, adwords, social media, etc.)

PPS No offense meant, it sounds like you have a wish, not an action plan.

That is true, this is just a dream I having, more of a hope, a longshot, i've been trying to get some kind of passive income from the internet for a number of years now, so far the most i've made was $600 bucks from a craigslist ad for a video production services (I made a music video for someone), and that was in 2015.

This time around I want to just rank on google and make income from ads and from selling other peoples stuff. My hypothesis is that traffic & conversion = income. So get enough relevant organic traffic to something and *hope* that it converts somewhere.

I guess my next questions would be, how could i track the sales made? And how could I have it set up so that its automatic where when the buyer hits purchase a percentage is put into my paypal? Would i need to look for a programmer for that?

Also is there a way to incorporate sales funnels into this? I literally love clickfunnels, i dont use it, but it looks awesome.

You need to figure out how you resolve your chicken and egg problem.

Customers wont visit your site without merchants and merchants won't give up their money without customers.

That's not to say you can't resolve this but you need a solid plan and to to know your business, customers and numbers

In a different industry I faced the problem and we ended up giving away a year of the service to businesses and then spending stupid money to bring in customers.

I do think you are on the right track with minietsy for a site idea.

I have seen a lot of movement over the past 18 months towards shop local. If I was looking at starting up an ecommerce site I would probably look to combine etsy with a farmer's market
Thanks for the advice man, appreciate it, I think there would be a few people i could get to review at first just to throw some stuff up there, facebook groups are loaded with people desperate for sales. I want to do a comprehensive write up of them one by one. but my main issue is running into the technology side where i have automatic tracking of the sales.

Also this is my first time using the quotes button

Have you looked at clickbank.com or maxbounty.com?

They've been connecting people like you with people who have stuff to sale. And tracking the sale.

So, you know for a fact that part can be done.

I am not technically gifted, so I do not know how to do it. But since it's been done, someone does know. I think people good at coding / creating software stuff can do it for you.

The problem you have, others in the same situation have, is making finding the willing and able buyer and convincing said willing and able buyer to pay.

        You said you 'hope.'

Which leads me to believe, you'll fail. Hope is awesome, as a feeling. But it does not put money into your pocket.

        Skill does. Yours or rented.

You might want to consider partnering up with 1 small business, sell their stuff, get paid.

Collect a handful of those, and you make money... Can be just as passively (i.e, you have a website that sells ads... Your site gets traffic, people pay you to put up their ads, they make sales, they pay you. Again and again, as long as they make enough sales.

Chris, what methods are you going to use to gain organic traffic? This will be the hardest part, to be honest. Gaining traffic in this day and age is not easy, which you are probably aware of. I wish you all the best in your new venture, but realistically speaking it may take you a couple years before you see a steady flow of organic traffic. C'est la vie, there are no shortcuts.
