According to Marketing Land, there was a record growth in online shopping over the holiday weekend, with last Friday being the biggest ever single day on record for online sales - but things could get even busier.

Marketing Land reflects on the fact that last month, it asked industry experts whether economic uncertainty and increased online shopping would be the theme of this holiday season. As it turns out, online shopping stats are soaring, and the number of in-person shoppers has fallen by over 50% compared to last year.

Taylor Schreiner is Director of Digital Insights at Adobe, and said last month:

"It's very hard to predict with precision what's going to happen. The biggest question in my mind is, how bad is the personal employment and disposable income situation going to become?"
By Black Friday, he was saying:

"We are seeing strong growth as consumers continue to move shopping from offline to online this year. New consoles, phones, smart devices and TVs that are traditional Black Friday purchases are sharing online shopping cart space this year with unorthodox Black Friday purchases such as groceries, clothes and alcohol, that would previously have been purchased in-store."
Thanksgiving just set a record, growing 20% year-on-year in online sales, with consumers spending more than $5 billion. The day after Thanksgiving, more records fell, with online sales up by 21/6%, and consumers spending $9 billion.

Looking Ahead to Cyber Monday

It's great news. Adobe was predicting the largest online shopping day in U.S. history, with consumer spend between $10.8 billion and $12.7 billion.

Consumers have readily adopted online shopping during the pandemic. If you made an effort to take advantage of that before Black Friday, you no doubt prospered. Things aren't going to return to 'normal' any time soon, so it's worth bearing that in mind heading up to Christmas.

Yes, we expect online shopping to even tripple as we approach the xmas. The second Covid-19 wave is prooving more deadlier than the first wave. So as expected, many people are likely to stay indoors and do their shopping online.
