How would YOU reseach your competition when it comes to eCommerce??

I'm thinking of going into a specific market, creating an online store and wanted to find out what my competition is doing in regard to internet marketing or in other words; what are my competitors doing to drive traffic to their sites?

Is there any tools or programs that would be helpful?
Any suggestions would be very helpful.

    I actually cover this in one of my WSO's which I can PM you a link to if you want.

    Ideally do a search for your main keywords and see who your competition is for that term. Check them out using Quantcast.com and see what kind of traffic and demographics are shown for them.

    Look at their prices, products, promotions, etc. and get a good feel for what they are doing.

    You can also check backlinkwatch.com to see where they are getting their links from and you can latch onto those resources as well.

    You should also look at Keywordspy.com and see if they are doing any PPC advertising and if you take the free trial you can also see what keywords they are targeting and how much roughly they are paying for that advertising.
