Include software demo video on the salespage or not?

Hello...

1) Some software companies include a demo walk-through of their product on their sales pages. The reasoning is this helps visitors see exactly what they will be getting. This adds transparency and boosts trust. Both of these help conversion rates. Plus, there's power in "show, don't tell".

2) Some software companies do *not* include a demo walk-through of their product on their sales pages. The reasoning is many people will get overwhelmed. Plus, the demo video reminds people they'll still have to actually do something with the software. Since many people are lazy, this may backfire and hurt conversions. Sell the sizzle, not the stake, and all that.

3) Some software companies just show screenshots of the main (not all) functions, and explain how those specific functions will solve specific problems or give benefits to customers. I have also seen some websites show animated gifs of functions.

What do you think is the best approach, and why?

Thank you.

  • I have to questions for you and a sound piece of advice.

1 What stage in the buying cycles are your prospects?

2 Do you have an active audience that knows you ?

3 Is this your first time selling or do you have a customer base ?

You did mention what some of your competitors are doing which shows me that you are somewhat aware .
You have to test and tweak until you find a formula that gets you the most opt ins .

There is no one method that suits all because not every prospect or consumer engages and makes purchasing decisions the same way.

    • Thanks for the response.

I'm interested in sales, not optins. ;-)

I've sold before with some success - but I always like improving results.

Most prospects might hear about a software from a partner who emails them.

      Thanks!

  • The short answer for all questions above is YES. As a person who sells his own software online, I can confirm that my sales rate has increased when I added youtube video demos/manuals.

    • That's great to hear!

My question is why some really successful software companies don't show video demos on their sales pages. For example, Moz Pro, Semrush, and Basecamp.

I'm trying to figure out what is it they know and understand, that I don't.

      Thanks!

  • My guess is what they know - and understand - is what works for them. It doesn't matter what another site does or another seller does. Some may produce series of instructional videos but not put the videos on their sales page.

What counts are your results as you test and tweak to improve sales.

  • Just answer the question on your customers perspective.

Will adding the video provide more value to the customer making a purchasing decision?
  • Another approach is to provide an explainer video, just like its name this video is to explain the problem that might exist and how the software can solve it. It's not a detailed walk-through demo of the software but it somehow can explain to prospected buyers what to expect and it's usually presented in an interesting way so it can also help to raise conversion.
