Strong post, I really like this idea When people want something they focus on idea, how they want it, but you must start taking actions to make it happen

I hear a lot of people talk about offering a service and I couldn't agree more on that however, for those who have freelanced or do currently freelance, how do you deal with trying to find decent paying work. since a lot of these freelance sites like odesk and elance have clients that hire people from all over the world, it is easy for people to pay less for more because third world countries don't need as much money as we do.
The other thing I recommend is definitely take advantage of fiverr. The annoying thing about fiverr is you are going to have to do a fair amount of marketing to get your gig noticed, especially at first to get your first few sales but once you start getting an established trickle of sales your fiverr gigs will start climbing up the ladder.
Find paid to post forums and spend some time posting to them. It's not great money but every little bit helps, right?
Finally, spend some time on MTurk. That site has all sorts of random little jobs you can do and believe it or not if you really have nothing else to do you can spend the better part of a day doing little odd tasks and getting some money.

Thanks for sharing on the great idea!
The best way to go when one is on a tight spot may be is to try and offer your expertise service on a freelance basis. This is where you offer the services on and when is needed basis.
Many people have made a great fortune out of this but how much you make is greatly dependent on how you package yourself and your services.

I have taught my teenage son how to use Fiverr. He writes reviews for Kindle books and iphone apps. He makes at least $500 a month. The quality and good feedback has resulted in him receiving physical products as well. Fiverr gigs can be somewhat too labor intensive for some but he can knock out a few of these per hour. The fact is, reviews are necessary for new products and there is no shortage of buyers for reviews on Fiverr.

Paul, great thread!

Tight spots are great and you will find that these are the times where you will become very creative in your money making efforts...

Day One - Find other people's stuff. By this I mean contact your friends, neighbors, family and local businesses and see if they have items they want to get rid of and offer to sell it for them on a commission basis. Think outside the box like a local pet store that has fish you could sell on Aquabid or a neighbor that has lots of earthworms they have been raising for their garden but had not thought to sell some (these are actual things I did and made money in a few days).

Day Two - Research to make sure the items can sell either direct sales or online like on eBay. Talk to the folks that have the items, ask them what the bottom price they want and decide if it is worth your time.

Day Three - Prepare (auctions, yard sale, etc) and start selling.

You can use Day Four and Day Five to keep selling if doing direct sales or find more items, especially if you are posting products for sale online.

By doing this you will be putting to action your plan and learning in the process on what sells good, so-so and what givex you the best return on the investment of your time.

Sometimes small upfront investments can help...The earthworms worked great for me at the time but I did make a $5 investment to buy some worms but by the end of the week I doubled my money and in less than two weeks made $75 from my $5 investment. Then in a few months I purchased my neighbors entire stock, got into worm farming and sold almost 10,000 worms and had a great garden that year

Something I have done (I was not super desperate but I needed some cash before the end of the month) which may be frown upon by some people... but hey, If you need to put food on the table...

Anyway... what did I do?

well, I turned to something that we know works... EBAY.

1) I researched what was selling well on Ebay and Amazon (I need to make sure that there is a market for what I sell)

2) Found other retailers that were selling those products actually cheaper than Ebay... (no, it's not impossible but it required - sometimes- a couple of hours to find a winner...)

3) Put the item for sale...

4) When the order came through, send the item directly from the retailer to my Ebay customer... Drop shipping I guess...

Results? On my first 5 weeks I made around $1,200 and that was around my job.

The way I see it, sometimes we do not need exotic answers to make money online... just focus on simple things that you KNOW works... that way you have the confidence and drive to keep on working.

I hope that helps someone out there

Is anyone still doing this - repairing/replacing cracked phone screens? I seems like this is a pretty good way to make maybe $100 a day or so, not income replacement, but additional income. Seems to me that with all the new phones out, this could be pretty lucrative.

The first strategy is to sell those glow in the dark sticks and glow in the dark necklaces. Usually you see them at carnivals, and on the 4th of july.

They are extremely cheap to buy, like $0.12 each, and I would sell them for $3-$5 each.

In one night I made like $500 - $800. On the 4th of July I do even better.

The second thing is fixing cracked IPhone and Ipad screens.

This is so easy to do, you don't need any technical skill at all. After I dropped my Iphone and cracked the screen I went to a guy that fixed my friends Iphone. He told me he wasn't fixing Iphones anymore and said to do it myself, and that it was extremely easy.

He gave me a repair kit for free (usually they are $20) and told me to search youtube as there are a ton of videos showing step by step how to repair cracked Iphone screens.

So I found 2 videos watched them and then repaired my IPhone. It took me all of 40 minutes.

I told a couple of friends what I done and they told me about their friends who needed their Iphone repaired. So I looked online for my city to see what the going rate to repair these screens were, $80 for IPhone 3Gs and $130 for IPhone 4/4s.

My costs were $20 for IPhone 3Gs and $80 for IPhone 4/4s for the repair kits, and away I went.

That first two weeks I made just over $600.

Now, I do it full time and spend about 20 hours a month repairing Iphones and Ipad screens and I am making around $2,300 a month.

Shane_k

PS, if you want to really see how easy it is to fix cracked IPhone screens look up some videos on youtube and you will see.

It is unwise to trust all you read on the internet.

Here's a suggestion for those too old to join the military or national guard:

If you find yourself soon in need of living accommodations and an income, but you have no ideas and the internet is not cashing out - consider OTR trucking. A school like this one will pay your travel to their facility and living accommodations as you train to drive a truck; you just have to fund your living expenses for a few weeks. The courses last a few weeks and then you can drive and live on the road.

Earning could be spotty, because sometimes it is all or nothing if you run a load late. But you would still have gainful employment and transferable skills - and a place to sleep in your own sleeper. I think 25k+ in the first year is probably a reliable baseline income. Hey, things could be worse. $.28/mile

If you have the time, it might be better to put yourself through CDL school on your own dime, and then get a higher-paying company. The schools that train you and then hard sell a truck lease option don't really pay well. Then you're talking better salaries (.40-.75/mile). Maybe you're away from home for a month or so at a time. Take the good with the bad.

But it's got to beat biking cross country and sleeping in a tent. Also, you can work on the road, save up some money, and get a home anywhere in the country. So that makes transplanting to a new state a bit easier to manage when you don't have funds.

Still have the autonomy and freedom. I bet it beats wearing a name tag. Beats homelessness, too!

I'd abandoned it in the hopes of getting a membership site going, but once my situation struck, I had to scrap it and draw another plan.

Since I've started I've learned how to become a better writer, have learned about a number of subjects, built relationships and earned hundreds so far. Nothing to retire off of, but it's a considerable supplement to a crappy retail job I also have.

I'm also working on other zero-budget stuff that doesn't involve ghostwriting. I don't expect instant moneys, but I expect it to build substantially over time.

Moral of the story: Burn off excess energy, calm down, get organized, get focused. Master these four things and go from there.
Very helpful You are correct in saying that you need to put some of those extra energy out, to get the frustration and despair out, too. Exercise really helps.

I would recommend IM arbitrage if you are in a pinch.....Offer a service that is already offered on Fiverr or even on this forum and charge a markup. All you have to do then is advertise in your sig, launch a WSO or pay for banners to find customers on this forum or even post on Craigslist.

I've been reading as much as I can here at Warrior Forums. I realize that all you need to do in order to start an online marketing business is to gather tips and knowledge here. Theirs no where esle you can gain such information for free. Theirs sooooo... much to learn here than wasting your money to purchase "get rich overnight products" ... scam artists at their best...

My advise to newbies, read as much as you can here, gather information and get yourself organized. Note that you need to provide a service to your customers.

I would say go to Google keyword tool, find a long tail keyword with decent search and buying value. Then create a video using the same keyword in title in description and video tags then upload to Youtube. To check if the keyword is easy to rank then use this tool. ezarticlelink.com. Join this site then go to bonus links and follow the simple instruction. To monetize your video go to clickbank.com, peerfly.com(for CPA) etc. Use bit.ly to track your clicks if you want to or use built in tracking with clickbank.com or peerfly like sites. After uploading to Youtube share and bookmark your Youtube link. You can use animotto.com to create a simple video. This is the quickest method and if you get it right you will be amazed to see the autopilotness of this tech..

I think post #20 is the framework for success. Also, I will use a rehash I learned a while back: integrity first, excellence in what you do, and service before self (don't be greedy or selfish). A few of you might know these core values.

^Kilago, that's an interesting approach! If you had a bike and trailer, you could also do some metal scrapping/recycling.

Warrior Shane Burgess has a good, straightforward idea about selling thrift store stuff online. Needs a minor purchase or two to get started:

Another option from Warrior Skylang:
Start a Cleaning Business

Nothing to do with IM, but way back in the dark ages, around 1980, I was out of work and had nothing to do but bills to pay. I printed an office cleaning business card (about $5 back then) and spent about $100 on supplies (mop, bucket, etc.). I practiced cleaning an office so I could get an idea how long it takes to clean an office and found that you could tell how long it takes by the number of people working in a place, so I could walk into an office, count how many people worked there (by the number of desks and chairs) and give an instant quote. I walked up and down a street with small businesses soliciting work and found that about one out of ten became a customer. By the end of the day I had a full slate of steady customers. I didn't worry about registration, etc., until about a month later, which was fine and I had some cash coming in by then. I kept that small business going for a couple of years and it got me out of a tight spot, as well as some unforgettable experience.

Point being, never say "can't". You can.

One lesson I learned from this was that it's always faster and cheaper to provide a service than to sell a product. You are, of course, limited to your time - how many hours you have to sell. Selling a product has no limit to ultimate volume but takes capital to invest and time to develop a market. If you don't have capital and need results fast you're better off providing a service.

What I am reading from that blog post is the bicycle and trailer is a means of transporting whatever you are repairing or buying and selling.

For writers: you could earn money quickly by editing content for local business sites. Or, help local restaurants update their menus. (Have you ever noticed the poor spelling and grammar on a lot of menus? Maybe you can just 'charge' them a meal! )

Hopefully these are a couple of new ideas.
Love the brainstorming!

This reminds me of back when I was trying to write a novel that someone might actually want to publish...I needed some extra income, FAST. So, I printed out a cute flyer on my home printer, and tucked it under doors in the neighborhood. I offered basic housecleaning services. Within a few days, i had two cleaning jobs that paid $40 each.

Not sure if I'd be as comfortable doing that now...lol.

I would start by putting up 10 Amazon reviews on bitly for small electrical items, they now get 1250 click through a day - the conversion is rubbish 0.25%

With the money you make, get some hosting a domain name and build a shop - change 50% of the reviews to go to your shop - conversion rate goes to 5% - if you change all the reviews to your shop the volume of visitors tanks big time.

You can build these bitly reviews in about 30 mins once you get the hang of it

Google GPT sites that pay daily to put a few bucks in your paypal. Get a work at home job that is not commission based so you can depend on some money coming in. Callc enter work, search engine evaluation, and transcription are some options. Sign up on Fiverr and offer whatever you can offer- forum posts, drawings, whatever you can do. Now you have some reliable money. Then sign up for a highly rated affiliate marketing program and start trying to make some bigger money in between your other gigs. As you start to turn a profit with that you can let some of the other stuff go.

I have something to add on this topic. There are now a couple of FREE to join affiliate systems now Skimlinks and Viglink. These are natural linking products that you can use in websites that give you access to 18,000 affiliate merchants for Skimlinks and 30,000 affiliate merchants for Viglink.

Skimlinks does require you to have your own domain and website to get approved and they check out each new site. Viglink has no such requirement. You then check out what sells and this is easy as Skimlinks gives click through rates and average basket sales as well as overall conversion rates. Choose one or two merchants from their lists and write reviews about a couple of products per page on your blog. If you use Wordpress there is a plugin that will automatically make links. Skimlinks also has some niffty widgets.

Add pictures that link to products use the merchants name in reviews stress the quality and benefits of the products and link to the page on the merchants site. Skimlinks and Viglink both convert the link to your affiliate link with them automatically. They pay a rate at least as high as the affiliate maximum (for productive affiliates). The down side is they take 25% of your commission, but we are in a hurry to make money and do not want to have to manage thousands of affiliate accounts. The preferred merchants often pay Skimlinks themselves, in these cases you get all of the commissions.

Now promote the hell out of your blog posts using all the social media accounts etc. as soon as you make $20 use it to buy another domain rinse and repeat. These providers all have quality real products that sell. They handle the store fronts etc. You just make review sites that compare products features and benefits to the user. You get access to thousands of real products that sell and convert. Your biggest problem is choosing which to promote.

There is an example of how this works on the site in my signature.

It's the summer season, if you have a lawn mower knock on some doors and ask people if they need their lawn mowed and offer a decent price. Always do good work so you can come back and offer your services again. Maybe offer edging for a little extra.

Another summer offer would be car washes. Get your kids and friends to help you for your cause and wash as many cars as you can while the sun is hot and the weather permits.

Are you handy with a hammer? I need a door fixed right now but I don't know of a handy man I can trust to come in and fix it for me. I'm sure there are a lot more people out there with those issues. Put up a simple ad in Craigslist for handyman services and list your prices with a phone number you can be reached by.

A good way for most people to start to make money on the internet is to sell stuff on eBay. This isn’t just about selling your junk that you don’t need. It’s about making a business out of this profitable new venture! So how do you go about that? Well, let me tell you how I did it.

Some of you will know that one of my regular hobbies is selling on eBay. I’ve been doing it for years and I think it’s one of the best places on the net to ‘cut your teeth’ in internet marketing. You get to practice everything from copywriting to HTML - it’s like junior school for internet marketers!

A big part of this is the idea that one man’s garbage is another man’s gold. Even if you don’t want that GI Joe figure anymore, some avid collector out there’s probably willing to shell out a lot of cash for it. That Playstation you have could be a classic to some people. Even a simple collectable card could be worth thousands of dollars to the right person. You can take advantage of the nature of this niche buying habit when you sell stuff on eBay.

One of the best and most lucrative ways to start to build a list of customers is to sell niche related goods on eBay. By this I mean if you are in the sea fishing niche you would want to sell goods that would attract sea fishing enthusiasts. These can either be fishing gear, paraphernalia etc, or you could sell related information products. The information products route is the way I would advise. If you have an ebook (about sea fishing in this case) then this is the best place to start.

You need to sell copies of your ebook on CD ROM. You have to do it this way so you are sending out an actual physical disc - eBay wont allow you to fulfil your ebook as a digital download, at least not on the UK site (your local site maybe different)

But this is not the problem that most eBayers think it is. You see, you’re fulfilling the same product again and again to sea fishing enthusiasts. So every package you send out is the same weight and size. After you have sent one out you know exactly how much the postage and packing will cost you next time. You can just send out every other one at the same cost, and drop them straight into the post box - no hassle, no post office queues , no weighing or calculating.

Sending out your discs like this is beneficial to your business because they are easy to reproduce as required. They are also cheep to buy and store. You only need to stock a few blank discs and cases, and a few padded envelopes. You can easily use your home computer to run off copies as you need them.

Even if you didn’t want to tackle any of this process for yourself then you could easily give this job to someone else. It’s not hugely technical or difficult to understand. A teenager, or work-at-home friend or relative, would be happy to do it for a small consideration, for every order sent out.

But… the biggest benefit of selling like this is you get all the contact information about your customer right up front. You get their email address, and you get their physical address. You can follow up with other offers, and other services. And you can sell like this to the whole world building a global list of interested niche buyers!

I’m not going to tell you how many discs I send out in the week or how many niches I sell to on eBay just using this system. But I will tell you it’s a lot! Building a list this way and getting paid to do it is a ‘no brainer.’

I cannot imagine why anyone would not want to bring this into their marketing mix. So get started by selling a simple ebook in your own niche on eBay and enjoy the process, the profits and the experience. And get paid to build your own list.

I saw a version of this online somewhere:

At Kinko's copy 1000 fliers that say:

Do you have any items of value you would like to sell?

I will come take a pic and post it on ebay and/or Craigslist.

We can split the profit 50/50.

Email or call....
Now canvass nice neighborhoods and deliver the flyers. Don't put them in mailboxes, that may be illegal. Put them near doors or create door hangers.

You don't have to buy anything or even handle shipping. Just be transparent about the profit.

If you're in a tight spot or even downright desperate, you might consider helping small businesses in your area with their local marketing. Google says something like 62% of small businesses in California don't even have a website. I bet it's not much higher in other states...

No website? Get them a simple 5-page website set up fast. No video "commercial" on your home page? Grab your camera phone and make a 2 - 3 minute video of the owner introducing herself, what she offers and why it's awesome! Tools: FREE WordPress site. FREE YouTube channel.

No email newsletter? Sign em up for an inexpensive email tool, add the subscribe now box o the website. Plus you can help plan and write the first 12 automated email messages. Tools: Aweber, iContact, GetResponse, MailChimp.

No social media presence? Set them up on Facebook, Google+, Twitter and Google Local / Maps. Use the Google Keyword Tool to find the most popular search terms related to their business "Santa Barbara Plumber." Make sure to use this term naturally a couple of times on the home page. Tools: FREE social media sites. Your hard work.

Offer to meet them once a week to brainstorm a blog post. Write it for them. Have them approve it. Set up your own PayPal account so you can get paid. Charge an initial deposit of $500. Charge another $500 when all set up. Charge a monthly fee of $197 to keep it all going. Get a new customer a week. Before you know it, you'll be hiring people to keep up! Tools: FREE PayPal account.

All the best,

Garth Bradley

Remember to advertise in the "smalls" in the local newspaper. I have advertised for a job when hardship struck. I had my job an hour after the newspaper appeared on the shelves.

My suggestion is this, go down to a daily work daily pay place and register. They will only pay about 7.25 an hour. It comes out to about $55.00 a day. then go to the plasma donation center and sign up. They will pay you $35.00 for a first time donation. There is $90.00, I took some of the money and joined a MLM. I was able to turn $15 into $120.00 in a week. I hated doing it, but I was upfront about what it was and didn't promise the world. I worked for a week at the daily work daily pay place and went back down to the plasma place for $40 more dollars. I started with nothing on Monday morning and in a week I net $445.00. I now know how to make $300.00 a week with little effort. Hope this helps and I know it isn't ideal but you do what you have to do.

One way to make money while you continue to try to make money from one these programs here is to get one of those work at home jobs.

$9.00 a hour for 35 hours is $315 a week and you are only sitting at the computer listening to a trainer. This can be for about 9 weeks and even though you will be taking calls, it's easy money.

This is for USA but if you search work at home, one company that frequently shows up, is always hiring.

Work harder and longer and look on odesk for any jobs at that I can do.
I've even rang family members up to see if they have any odd jobs going for extra cash

there's tons of outsourcing sites these days so if you need quick cash, just register an account for free and start doing some freelance works. payment is no longer a problem coz many outsourcing sites accepts Paypal and many banks as well are already tied up with Paypal.

don't know some outsourcing sites? try freelancer.com or odesk.com or google "freelance work". And if you know how to write and you need a quick buck. head over to iwriter.com or similar sites and write!

You can even make a $100 a day or even $3000 a month easily just by writing!

This is an awesome thread,I would say the best and quick way to earn fast cash is by offering services based on a skill. For example ,if you are good at websites development then venture into making sites and selling them...of course you need to market your services but once you have created a good network you can always earn from referrals and repeat business.

I will try not to rehash what others have said by going into a lot of detail but three people said sensible things:
1. Get an offline job if it's that bad you are really short of money. As an adendum to that: I was in the badly off situation (and still flirt with it occasionally) and yet the typical job that's available here in Ireland pays less than being on Social welfare - so tht wasn't an option for me. It may differ where you are from.
2. Cut back on your expenditure. I almost made a hobby of this and have very very few expenses - even during good time. I mean, when you get used to living a nice clutter-free life, who needs to add a bunch of nooses round your neck.
3. Offer a service. There are always people who need services and can afford to pay for them.

My advice: go on Fiverr - look around and offer a better deal at anything you can for other people. When you get to level 2 seller, leverage the extras you are allowed add to make extra money.

If you don't have the skill set or the time to offer a service, look around places like this forum and others where people are looking for something and then hunt it down on the internet - as software. For example, I noticed as I opened this thread that someone posted looking for information on how to make cartoon videos. Go get some free cartoon video making software and create a gig from that. Knowledge is power. Information is what you will get paid for.

If you need help on finding software, go to sourceforge.net or the free software foundation.. there are a ton of different applications you can use for any number of services.
IF you have the time:
You could also go one better and build a list from a free blog, where you add links to the software and offer it as a free download. I have seen project management software i use myself (it's great stuff) going on sites for just an email in return. When you build your list, email them with information about complementary items they may like to purchase with your affiliate link.

I offered a proofreading service on Fiverr and charged per 3,000 words. The nearest match to this I could find before was 2,500, so i got a good few sales. Now, that is one of my only really time consuming gigs... the rest are pretty much done already, time and effort already put in ones - I just need to deliver them. I don't mind spending the time proofreading cos I like it and I am good at it (excuse my grammar and punctuation on the forum, but I don't pay any attention to it when my laptop battery is dying). After I developed a good reputation I lowered the number of words and am still getting gigs.

During hard times I have made up to $500 a month. The only mistake I made was dropping my earlier gigs, leaving Fiverr and only getting back to it recently instead of using it as I should have all along.

Anyway, I hope I got something valuable across there that helps someone.

All the best,
Dave

I hope that helps someone out there
I have to say, this is a really unique approach. Have you done this again since your original post? That puts a whole new spin on "drop shipping"! Congratulations on your ingenuity.

First I'd like to thank everyone on the Warrior Forum, this site is amazing. I'm very new to all this & I'm so excited I found this forum.

The post by John Durham (newbies read this. how to make 50k...) is unbelievable and I can't believe something like that is free. The post by Amir Luis (how I made $1600 in 72 hrs) is just as good and both have an unreal amount of free info. So I'd like to thank them.

With being new to offline marketing but not cold calling I would love to get this going. I did have some questions I hope someone can help a new guy with.

1.) How and what do you set up to collect monthly payments? Could anybody help me figure that out? I couldn't really find a definitive answer on that.

2.) I remember reading on Amir's thread that outsourcing might not be a bad idea. Do you think starting out its better to make the sales, make the websites, do all the tech stuff, seo, etc etc. Or make the sales and outsource everything else?

3.) If you do outsource where do you find people to do all that for you? Make the website, drive traffic, seo, etc.

4.) If I did do everything, I don't know anything about seo. How do you make sure the customers site is worth having? Making sure it ranks, it'd getting traffic, etc.

5.) Where could I get a list of businesses to call?

I hope that's not too much and to everyone, thank you so much. I'm so excited to get my offline marketing career off the ground!

Write a quick, short story in an hour, and publish it on Kindle!
This is how I got started.
Amazon's made it very easy nowadays. I've made $640 in my 2 weeks doing this, then $1,350 in my next month!
Try it out, it's worth a shot! Even if you don't make a full-time income out of it, you can still get at least $100+ per month doing this with minimum effort.

What? $640 for a single short story? Just how short can you go and still have it be sellable as a "book"? How short was yours?

Go to BubbleWS.com or SlicethePie.com, where you respectively write short posts and short music reviews. These places pay low (assuming you don't go out of your way to promote your writing), but the good thing here is that they pay. As long as you don't break their easy-to-follow guidelines, they actually pay - guaranteed.

This is reasonably better than going through the trial and error of other marketing efforts, which often require certain failures before you finally learn how to make it work. It all depends, of course, on how desperate you are.

I had a few selling at the time, actually.
My best selling book was 3 pages long! So the length doesn't matter! I'm not even the best writer, I'm just decent. As long as you're not a terrible writer and you know how to use spell check, you can do it!
