Paul you are totally right...

I believe if someone needs quick cash like really fast is to sell a few things on Craigslist in their local area...

Also sell some things on Ebay or Ebid...

IM takes time and takes practice so it is not a solution to quick cash if you don't know the first thing about it...

Look around your environment to check if you can see a job that other people call "dirty" jobs like cleaning the sewage. Do it excitedly, excellently, with integrity and humility.

Something can be made out of nothing and what many people ignore usually turns out to be a goldmine.

Here is something a little different.
Go to a domain sales forum. Namepros/DNF etc.
Scan what people are selling.

Often there are domains that you know that you could make a few phone calls and sell for a profit.

Many times domainers are looking for the big payoff. When that doesn't happen they end up trying to sell decent domains for bargain prices on the forums, because like many im'ers, they spend all their time reading and posting and not taking action.

I am sure you could probably see a domain that someone in your community would love to have. Show them the weekly sales list at Domain Journal.com/Sedo. Let them get a feel for domain values and offer to secure the domain for a specific amount.

Just like the Craigslist suggestion but with domains.

Pm me if you would like to try this and I can help you out.

This doesn't apply to everyone but if one has a little bit of car knowledge one can offer to sell a car for a commission for the car owner. Again, providing one has a bit of car knowledge and one has a place where one can showcase the car.

Many people would prefer to sell a car on their own rather than trade it in. But, those same people don't want all those strangers coming to their home - that's the drawback for you - strangers coming to your home.

This works best in a fairly well populated area with a couple of upscale neighborhoods.

A little bit of car inspection plus, hopefully, repair and service receipts, knowledge of the paperwork involved (title, bill of sale) and knowledge of the car's value (rarely does one get bluebook value for a used car but ... well ... because of the gov'ment cash for clunkers deal last year creating a LACK of affordable used cars on the market ... who knows? maybe more).

10 to 15 percent commission plus expenses (ads) is usually appropiate.

I used to do this back in the '70s and 80's (I worked in a service station in an affluent neighborhood therefore I did have access to the people with that kind of problem. I sold an old Suburban for a friend a couple of years ago by taking some pictures and putting them on Craigslist. Made $750.)

It was a nice supplement to my income.

I would think that a couple of character references plus free areas (laundromats, libraries, community post boards etc.) to advertise this service would be needed.

just a thought. again, selling a service as reiterated on many of the posts in this thread is usually an inexpensive way to earn income.

Change Your Thinking - Change Your Life! Yeah, Really!

Cutting expenses is the first line of defense. And honestly, it's something you should be doing even if you're making good money. Saving money when the money is rolling in instead of blowing it on "stuff" will only help in the long run.

When I saw the industry I've been in for 20 years falling apart, I started looking at expenses and slashing whatever I could. I've worked at home for years - we got rid of the leased second car. All our cars are paid for. In a pinch, it's cheaper to rent a car for a day or a week than to pay for 3 years on a car you don't really need.

We rarely eat out and I almost never buy processed, packaged, frozen foods. It's cheaper and healthier to cook. I watch the grocery store ads and when there's a really good price on something we regularly eat, I stock up. I go to the store with a list and for the most part, I only buy what's on the list. You'd be amazed at how much you can save.

I never "shop," online or off. If I need something, I generally have a good idea where to get it for the best price. I watch the ads and I try and get the best value I can get at the lowest possible price.

I looked at every expense and asked myself if it was something that could be eliminated. If so, it was eliminated. If it was something that could be reduced, I reduced it. I mean EVERY bill. For example, I had an AT&T air card. Once my business slowed down, I didn't really need it. Also, more and more places are offering free internet. I got rid of it because it was no longer worth the $50/month for the convenience of having internet wherever I went.

Start going through your "stuff" and sell whatever you no longer use or use rarely. Honestly, ask yourself what would happen to it all if you died tomorrow, and who would be left to deal with it. For me, that was a big motivator to get rid of a lot of things and to stop accumulating more things. Clean out a couple houses after people have died and your "stuff" takes on a new perspective. You may not get a lot of cash for it, but it's better than having it collect dust.

Drink coffee at home. Eat at home. Take lunch with you. Take snacks with you. I've even lost weight because I don't buy snack foods and most of the time I'm too lazy to make something at home. My consumption of sweets has significantly declined. You might even be surprised and find you can live reasonably comfortably on your income if you stop spending so much money on things that don't matter.

Then, start looking at what you can do to make money, offline or on. Ask yourself if you want to work online because it's convenient - or if you have to due to physical or geographic limitations. Desperate people can't be choosy. If you are limiting yourself to making money online because it's convenient, you aren't desperate.

The key to making money online is to identify your skill set and then find out if you can make money with it. Take a look at virtual assistants, outsourced services, writing, etc. There are actually a lot of ways to legitimately make money online if you have the right skills. If you don't - start learning some. The online world isn't significantly different from the offline world. If you don't have many skills or the right skills, you'll have a hard time finding work or making much money at the work you do. Instead of sitting in front of the tube or surfing the internet, become an expert at something online - social networks, PHP, Powerpoint, Excel, Wordpress, SEO - pick something marketable and master it while you're otherwise scratching for money.

cool idea... i get tons of people who ask me this all the time...

here is my answer :-)

1. find something expensive to promote ($100+ commision)
2. answer the main questions the market has by looking at forums, yahoo answers, ect.
3. set up a blog answering thier questions
4. link to the product with your affiliate link
5. offer a bonus if they order thru you

simple stuff yet so few actually do this.

here is an example... a few months ago my wife wanted a new digital camera... she had the old cannon rebel and wanted the new one cause it does video...

my question was... does the video quality suck...

one guy posted a video on youtube with the video quality and it SOLD me!

imagine if he was an affiliate... it would look like this...

- here is the video quality sample
- looks good right... well i found the camera cheap here (affiliate link)
- by the way... if you get it thru my link i will give you my special tips on getting the best quality from your camera (theres like 7 videos i give you)
- order thru my link and ill send it to you

and because this camera is $1000 you can get some decent commisions

BTW - the youtube video mentioned here had over 60K views its first month for a product that is over $1000 to buy.

now if you are really really hurting for cash... find something to sell via paypal that is on the higher price side and get infront of your audience fast.

that is the beauty of the internet... i can show up instantly in front of hungry buyers

It depends what your objective is... if you just need quick cash find an affiliate program that pays the next day that you believe in works well. I like Marlon Sanders for this. Or if you have a list, make an offer that is just too good to pass up that is low cost- like 5 for the price of 1 etc.

But if you want to build a list and an income quickly, I like jv's and ebook launches, ebook tours, or "expo" type events in this current economy. Most people can afford a $27 or $47 ebook or a virtual event if you offer streaming and no frills under $100.

Once you have the ebook, the jv partners will supply the lists with buyers and once it set up you can make several thousand dollars in just a few days.

I am going to offer a little advice that is counter cultural here for those who have a Master's Degree. I am currently putting together a product to shows people how to quickly land a job teaching online with Universities in their local area or even for profits. This is not actual desperation, but if you have about 21 to 28 days before you need money, it can happen.

So for those of you with Masters Degrees, you have probably heard that your degree is good for nothing...not so. You can find a job teaching online today if you look in the right places. I would start with Indeed.com and using the term "online professor". Look for your chosen area.

The only sticking point is that you will need to quickly get all of your academic transcripts. You can rush copies and the fee is minimal, but if you need to get the money, this is a viable way.

The Project is not even close to being ready, so if you have any questions about this PM me or skype me and I will get you started and may even let you beta the product when it is done.

Sell Services!!

I'll expand on the services part.

The fastest way to get money instantly is services. When I started out, I posted a web design thread in the Warriors for Hire section. The section had just opened up and wasn't even getting that much traffic.

I started getting request after request. From Photoshop jobs, to blog installations to logo gigs. I made a lot of money there. I'm still getting PM's and emails from word of mouth references after shutting the thread down almost 1 year ago.

So here's the idea...

There's successful people that desperately need to outsource work.

Here's a list of things that people commonly need automated on a frequent basis and outsource. These things don't require specialized knowledge and can be performed by a lot of people with basic research.
  • Blog, CMS, Forum (and all technical) software installations
  • Wordpress Theme installation and setups
  • Backlinking
  • Creating social, rss, and article profiles for Incansoft products or other automated software solutions.
  • Writing articles, press releases, blog posts.
  • Customer support (answering customer questions as a Virtual Assistant via phone or email)
  • Transcribing MP3 Audio to text (listen to recordings and type the conversations).
  • Recording text to MP3 audio (make a recording of text).
There's so much more I can't think of right now. The successful Warriors I know need help with this but very few have the time to post and head hunt.

If you have a good niche site already in place, offer advertising space on your site.

If you have a network of niche sites, offer an advertising package that includes all of those sites.

What I've found successful:

25-word text ads plus link on every page of my site(s), in a special section of the sidebar, near the top of the page.

Doing this, you're basically creating your own Adsense block.

At the top of the listings, place a link to your offer that says something like, "Your Ad Here, on Every Page of this Site" (be a little more creative that that, though). Set payment through PayPal.

Don't just sit back and wait on people to sign up, though.
If you have a list, then promote this offer to your list.
If you don't have an actual list, but do have some contacts, get in touch with them.
Contact others in related niches and make them aware of your offer.

Also, check places like PRWeb, PRLog, PR.com, etc., for folks who have submitted press releases related to your niche and contact those folks.

Great post, except that I believe it's now against the rules to offer backlinking and profile creation services in the For Hire section. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that.

There are other places you could advertise those two services, but I'd hate to see someone who is already desperate spend $20 on a For Hire thread and then have it deleted for breaking the forum rules.

I think quick way to make money is go to places like elance.com or getafreelancer.com and offer your services. I'm good at programming and this where I make some of my cash. Hope this was helpful.

This may be totally counter to what everyone has said because this is indeed an internet marketing discussion. But here goes.

A friend of mine told me about a neighbor that was in dire straits financially.

They went to a store, got a bucket, sponges, soap, etc. Then, he took his neighbor to the local realtor and said they were a local car cleaning service and would be happy to clean some of the cars that day. They got 10 cars for 30 bucks a piece that day. The next day, the neighbor went out by himself and made a couple hundred. It was enough to get by.

Now, I'm not saying do this the rest of your life... but is there something that can be done quickly to make cash?

Plenty of ideas here.

This is just an offline idea.

Hope it helps.

Have you ever sold anything face to face? Contact one of the Warriors who can create websites and knows something about SEO work.

Now, go out and call on businesses and ask if they would like a professional, traffic pulling website that will increase their business at very little cost.

At first, offer to do this for just 100.00 more than the Warrior website creator is charging you. As you get more business, raise your price. When you find a business that wants a site and is happy with the results, get their testimonial and references and hit those companies up for business.

You need a good partner, a willingness to work and talk to people, and before long you have a business and can scale it up as big as you want to get.

It can be relatively fast and lead to long term income too.

This is excellent advice. It does require a little willingness to put yourself out there and meet people, but quite frankly, the opportunity for arbitrage in internet marketing is HUGE as much of the work can be done inexpensively via outsourcing (hence the crazy cheap prices especially if you go right to the source), and the only thing left for you to do is to take advantage of this vast disparity in prices by going out there to the end user (business owner) and selling these services to them. The great thing about this model is that if you approach these businesses confidently, you can land at least couple of hundred dollars' worth of business without any money out of pocket - at the very least you want to walk out of the business with a 50% deposit, which you then use to have the work done for you!

One of the best pieces of advice that I ever learned from my multi-million dollar mentors, is to study exactly what the successful people do to be successful.

Let’s say your niche is weight loss. Go to Google.com and type in weight loss. Study the PPC ads, the top 10 organic listings.

Ask yourself:

What kind of sites do I see?
What are they offering?
How do they market?
What are they doing to build their list?

You can learn A LOT by studying other people’s marketing. Especially the marketing of the ‘gurus’. What I recommend you do is that you create a few email addresses and get on the lists of your competition. 1 email per email list.

Study the emails you receive. What kind of products/services can you offer that the gurus are also offering.

You will receive months of emails if you subscribed to a smart entrepreneur.

That marketing funnel will teach you a lot.

I don’t encourage people to copy their competition. But there is nothing wrong with studying what other people are doing to make a killing on the internet.

I have found that most marketers have the “scarcity mentality” and don’t share their best stuff in their information products. When you study what the ‘gurus’ are doing, you know that their methods work because they wouldn’t be doing it in the first place!

This principle/strategy is pure gold. I promise you it can make you A LOT of money.

I'm going to be honest here...

Firstly there are several different "levels" of desperation in terms of financially.

Let's be honest, making money online isn't free and I'm talking about making around a minimum of $1,000+ You need to pay for hosting, emails, etc. You need to have at least $50-$100 each month MINIMUM.

If I was truly in a desperate position, this would be the very last thing I would do.

The first thing would be to look at my financial situation and get help and I mean proper help from an official financial advisor or Citizens Advice Bureau.

I would also look for a job and make that my job if you like. There are literally 100's of online job sites. Another thing you could do is sign up to Elance and People Per Hour etc. and post your CV on their looking for freelance work whilst you are waiting for a position. I would also sign up to every recruitment agency and try and get some temporary work.

I personally don't think its a good idea to even attempt to make money online when you are desperate. People don't buy from desperate people, they buy from those who are successful, those they like and trust. It takes time to build a great website, it takes time to create lead capture pages and more importantly it takes time to build a good list that BUYS from you.

BlueSquares..I was wondering what you meant in your previous post which said something about people having a need of transcribing ebooks to text? I am looking to make some additional money online, but I don't know how to do most of the things you all have mentioned.

After school child care. Mothers in the southern California suburb I live in are DESPERATE for it! Talk to mothers. Ask them what they NEED, not what they want. Fill the needs and you will not starve. Food for thought.

ArtandSoulLady,

BlueSquares probably meant transcribing audio into text/ebooks.

So let's say a marketer does a phone interview or video... they can load the audio/video to a website and someone can listen/watch but not read. Many like to have their "information" in multiple formats. So basically you would type what they've said.

I've helped Pastors transcribe their sermons and I'll tell you what... If you're not a fairly decent typist it's a really tedious & awful job. On the flip side you get to listen to (and more importantly learn from) the information for free!

I was wondering what you meant in your previous post which said something about people having a need of transcribing ebooks to text?

Yes, I screwed up on that one. I meant to say transcribe Audio to text. Basically, someone sends you an MP3. You listen and type out what they're saying in the conversation. If there are multiple parties, you separate each person similar to a script.

How to Convert Audio to Text
Easy. Play the MP3 on your computer and start typing into Notepad. If you're typing in this forum and have speakers, you can easily do this.

How to Convert Text to Audio
This is harder. You also need a good speaking voice, quiet environment and a computer microphone or other recording software on your PC.

Process to quick results:
1. Find out your strengths and what you can offer to the marketplace
2. Zero in on the specific needs that needs desperate solving (that ties in to 1)
3. Come up with a solution that addresses that need/ problem
4. Package that solution in a way that's elegant, simple and proven to work
5. Market it in places that has the traffic desperate for that solution

I know it might sound long winded and may take a bit of time... Though with a bit of hustle, the process can be shortened..

Anyway, for an even quicker solution:
1. Offer services.. What can you do? Create websites, membership sites, squeeze pages or anything that can be very valuable to others especially those technically challenged
2. Could even write content for others and package it as PLR to be sold (multiple copies to make it worthwhile)

There's always opportunities around, they are abundant, however you just need to focus on 1 specific action at a time and see it to completion to make the best out of it...

Here's something that worked for me, and will work for anyone with some kind of academic skill...

When I was in college, I wanted some pocket money and already had a part-time job, so I couldn't take on another one with set hours. I also had one particular class I was killing - to the point the instructor excluded my scores when grading because they skewed the curve.

One day, another student in class asked if I could help her, and offered to pay me. I accepted her offer, and we moved to the student cafeteria. We mostly spent the time on setting up and working problems from the various assignments (this was a math class). Another student noticed us sitting there, and asked if he could sit and watch. When he found out I was getting paid, he whipped out his wallet and laid a bill on the table.

After the session, both remarked that they actually got more out of the session because the other asked questions they didn't know they had.

The light bulb went off...

I spent the rest of that quarter running small study groups for $10/hour/student, and this was back in the early 1980s. Four or five students for an hour I would have spent studying anyway, and I made $40-$50 cash.

A day or two before the mid-term and again before the final, I finagled an empty classroom and had an open all-day review session for $25 per head. They could come and go as they needed to, but I would be there answering questions and working problems for a 12 hour period. Got 32 to sign up, including my regular study groups. $25 x 32 'tickets' was an $800 payday.

If you know a subject cold, and you can answer questions patiently, setting up this kind of group is not difficult. They pay in cash, so you don't have to wait.

This might make a good idea for a membership site or webinar series, too...

John,

Excellent post! WOW! My brain is in overdrive as to how this could be used.

I remember a friend out east who used to do little workshops in libraries and charged $20 a pop and got 10 - 20 people. His workshops were on simple subjects.

In addition, I know a number of folks on Ebay selling their expertise from classes on DVDs or CD-ROMs. This was something I did for years in the magicians niche. I just hooked up a headset, talked about my shows and how to do them and... viola! Money in my Paypal account. This is certainly a simple and FAST way to make cash.

Cheers,

Millard

Offer your services. Writing and submitting articles for anyone on the Warrior forum will earn you some quick cash. Go a little step further than just writing the articles. Put a twist and submit them to the top 10 article directores. You can charge upfront 1/2 with the remainder at completion.

Create a squidoo lens, a podcast, of their already written articles. The Warriors have money and don't mind spending it for quality work. so, if you are in a tight spot and you don't mind doing some work. You can earn money on this forum.

If you can't write, find a college kid who can. Offer to do the SeNuke thing for a warrior at $75.00 per week, working as a virtual assistant. Get 10 warrior clients
Get 10 college or even high school kids to do the work. You get the override. But you have ongoing income and you can help some kids

I've was in this position a few years ago and I desperately needed money to pay bills and I needed to make in in the next week. I went to elance and I bid on rewriting articles for $1 & $2, stressing in my bid that was a native english speaker with a uni degree. I also bid on writing articles for $4-$5 each.

It was really boring, I rewrote dating articles until I felt brain dead all week, and I also wrote some original cheap articles. I made several hundred dollars and made the deadline to pay the bill.

Since then I have upped the prices considerably and got some really well paid article writing contracts. I haven't had to resort to the rewrites but I know that if I ever needed money urgently again, then working hard at elance, charging low prices, will do it for me, and fast.
If I was desperate thats what I would do to get cash in the bank quick.

I think this is a great idea. I will be following here as I could use some suggestions as well. We are in this together on some level, so when we help one person, we help the collective.

Re: What to do if you're desperate
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Love this thread, from time to time there is always something new to add...

This one will seem fluffy to some, but a warrior gave me some advice and told me to ask God, then shut up and be quiet and listen... I had run into some finacial issues that were emergent, and even though I have enough money usually, these issues ran me out really fast... and I got stuck.

So I took this warriors advice... Im not religious, but I DO believe in God if that makes sense. I asked for divine wisdom and then shut off all the lights and quieted myself to listen. My grandfather used to say "Nobody is an athiest in a fox hole" lol

The question I asked was "God , how can I leverage what I already have before I go trying to rack my brain and create some big new pie in the sky answer. What do I already have that can be leveraged"?

Anyway, my mind was racing with "I need to create this, or sell that...or go on a MASSIVE action course..." all logical answers but none the "perfect, peaceful one".

I didnt really need to do anything "new".

When the answers came, I started realizing that I already had several avenues that could easily engage and while none of them would do the trick neccessarily by themselves... each could contribute just enough to get me where I needed to be.

When I finally got quiet the answer came...

Its amazing but when you quiet yourself and really get zen, you can find answers that you didnt think were there. This warrior reminded me that asking God doesnt work for most people, because they forget to shut up and listen afterward.

So the first answer was... you dont need to do anything new.

The second answer was ... Quit thinking it all has to come from one big avenue, and think in streams.

The third answer was that I had three or 4 areas that I could easily just give a small push to, and that each of those streams would contribute to make up what I needed with very very little effort.

I didnt need a big pie in the sky idea, I only needed to push the button on three or four streams that I already had.

You may think of one and say "thats not enough"
Or another and say "That wouldnt work either'...

But if you quiet yourself and get calm you may realize you have more going for you than you think. The first key is to stop refusing to believe that you already have... We all have something... I know sometimes that seems to not be true, but it is.

We all have several streams we can get running one way or another. I really believe that and have proved it time and time again to myself.

So in short, sometimes I can say that it helps to ask God. Then shut up and listen.

Sometimes hardship requires massive action, but dont always jump right to that conclusion even though Tony Robbins says you should... maybe it will require that, maybe it wont..., because if you get peaceful and listen, it may not require as much massive action as you think... you may already have a smooth perfectly flowing solution, if you can just shut your mind up long enough for the perfect answer to come through.

Sorry to be redun-dun-dun-dant.

Wanted it to drive it home. I know people hate answers like this one, but it is a classic answer that has worked for many people. Just shut your mind up sometimes, and quit raving...and listen. Whether that is to God or to another warrior, or wether both voices are one and the same... just "listen" once in awhile. "Listen".

There are alot of great answers on this beloved life saving warrior thread... Now this is one of them!

Hi,

This is my first post. I have invested a lot of time, trying to find out the ways to make money online. I started my research a few years back when I was completely newbie.

I have tried everything, get paid by reading e-mails, get paid by writing reviews, get paid by giving your opinion. Most of the things are failed but certainly I came, that you can do the affiliate marketing but at the time I neither have the money nor the knowledge to do it.

so the best way for the desperate people ( they should be at least average in English) is to make an account on the freelancing sites like Freelancer.com and Elance.com. At least they can write some articles on easy topics.

Mostly at freelancer you will get paid $2-$5 per article and at Elance $5 per article. depending upon your ability you can definitely write at least 8 articles per day (however it's going to be hectic), so you can easily make around $15-$40 per day.

As far as making money online, I think the fastest way is to use your skills and offer a service to others.

Examples:

1) Helping Local Businesses
2) Building Websites For Others
3) Writing Articles For Others
4) Creating MiniSites or Graphics For Others
5) Creating WordPress Themes For Others
6) Doing Submissions For Others
7 Creating Videos For Others

And So On...

Go to Craiglist and go to Car category and find a list of people who sell Expensive car.
Talk to them, that you can make a website talking about the car. So it will look professional and trustworthy.

You can also do this on other Classified Ads.

The keyword is :
1. Expensive item
2. Look profesional

Buy a .info domain ($2 + on godaddy), and try hostgator ($0.01 for 30 days).

Do this also for Expensive house and real estate.

PS : Rich people don't mind to pay you for $7 or $17 or $37 , if that can gain more money to them.

One of the biggest reasons why people don't succeed can be traced from the very evil word known as "excuses."

I often hear various excuses. Some say, "I'll try" or "I'll see." No way. As Yoda said, "It's either you do it or you don't. There is no try." To try is to exert a half-hearted effort. It is such a weak word. In any endeavor, you have to push yourself to the limit. Full steam ahead.

There's no need to make everything perfect before you take action. Perfectionists never get anywhere because they never start until the perfect conditions are met. And since nothing is perfect, expecting
perfection is a waste of valuable time.

The important thing is to adjust along the way. The more you don't start doing something, the harder it is to get started. If your will to do something is weak, it will get weaker and weaker until you finally decide to quit.

Use the power of momentum. Take the all-important first step, and you're halfway done. Take the next step, and another, then another. You will become stronger and stronger as you take more and more steps until you find yourself on fire and on a roll.

Great suggestions there. I definitely agree that offering IM-related services is probably the best way to pick up money quickly that you can actually spend right away. Trying to do affiliate marketing or anything along those lines simply takes too much time when you desperately need cash right now.

I'm not saying that you should completely neglect product creation or affiliate marketing if that is what you want to do, but for your more immediate monetary needs, services are what you need to do to generate quick cash. You can work on these other aspects of your IM business in the meantime, but just be realistic about what you should be doing online for your immediate financial needs.

First, I want to address the issue of desperation and that is, you can't act desperate (even if that is your situation). I actually learned this during an acting seminar with a casting agent.

When you act desperate, you give others (your interviewer, your customers, etc...) the impression that you're out to do things for yourself instead of for their own interest. Nobody wants to deal with people who are out for their own interests only.

Next, you have to start looking at needs. Not so much your own as the needs of others. What are other people looking for? What do they want? To put it another way... what are they willing to pay for? Note: When I talk about needs, I don't necessarily mean things people are purchasing online, such as dating products, self help products, internet marketing products and so forth (which is what many marketers talk about), but even jobs if it comes down to it.

Next, asses not only your own skills/knoweldge but:

(1) Your life experience. Did you perhaps had something (good or bad) happen to your life that someone can learn from? I'm sure in your life (as I've had happen to me many times) you've had people tell you their life story and then say something like "... now you listen to me and you make sure you don't make the same mistake I did.". Hmmm... I wonder if these people ever thought of putting the experiences they've gone through in a book, selling it and sharing their knowledge with the world so others won't go through the same hardship they went through.

By the way... that being said, I actually came across someone who was selling an e-book (perhaps on Clickbank???) that talked about his battle with cancer, including his reaction when he first heard the news, the ordeal he went through and the result. There are people out there who can benefit from what you've been through and most likely are willing to pay for it.

(2) Your connections (your friends, family members, co-workers, even people they know). Perhaps you can use the knowledge and skills of others in such a way where both of you profit?

Here's a good example of using other people's skills/knowledge (in this case, other people's license): Once, when I was working as a pharmacist, I had a "recruiter" call me at work asking if I knew anybody looking for a pharmacist or technician opening. As it turned out, I had a former roomate who was licensed as a pharmacy technician and was looking for a technician job. I referred him to the recruiter and in turn, I got paid for the referral (and all I had to do was give the recruiter his name). The recruiter won out b/c he got a commission. My former roomate won out b/c now he won't have to spend time looking for a technician job (and now he can pay his bills). Of course... I won out also because I got a referral fee. Everybody wins. Oh... I almost forgot one thing... the pharmacy my former roomate wins because they didn't have to worry about staffing issues... at least for a while (after my former roomate got licensed as a pharmacist, he ended up quitting his tech job and moved to Florida).

What's even better is, if they are as desperate as you and they have a particular skill/expertise but don't know how to maximize it, it won't take much convincing on your part for him to work with you!

(3) Special qualities. Do people say your a good listener? Are you funny? Outgoing?). Even special "quirks" you have could get you money (just look at all those talent shows on television who are always looking for people with quirks. Heck... casting agencies are always looking for people with quirks.

(4) Possessions you don't need that perhaps other people value. Can you maybe sell some of these to get some money to pay off some debt so you won't be so desperate? In my case, I still have a Shaquille O'Neal rookie card and a Brett Farve rookie card. Now, even though I still have these cards, I don't care much for sports cards anymore. However, if I decide to sell these cards, I'm sure I can get something for them.

Evaluate everything... not just within yourself, but outside of you (the people around you and their connections) as well, then try to see if you can connect what you have access to with what people are willing to pay for.

This, to me, is the whole purpose of all those traffic software and traffic programs. It's to find people who need and are willing to pay what you have access to.

I also want to say something else and that is this: I believe it was Dan Kennedy who said in one of his books that most people have a million dollar idea or a million dollar quality in them, but they never do anything with it (perhaps this is why people are so desperate).

I just want to also say this... most people probably know someone with a million dollar skill or quality (or even an idea), but that person is either not using it or don't know how to. If you can help that person flush out his idea and get it working, that can be profitable to you.

This brings up something else I want to say and that is the concept of networking, and I'm not just talking about hanging out in those online forums, either. I mean going out there, meeting and talking to quality people. Expanding your contacts. They say people skills are the most important skills one can have, and it's something I have to work on myself.

As a matter of fact, when I started auditioning for theatre, I not only looked at the trade papers and online, but I also went out and asked my former teachers (whom I had a good relationship with), my classmates and my acting coaches. I went to three auditions. The first two I did not make, but the third one I actually got cast. It was also a children's musical and the director was my former writing and acting coach who knew me (and my skills) well!

Hope this helps !!!

Wisdom there, Tina. The Internet is not a magic source of money. It takes knowledge and time to create cash flow. People are far better finding a source of income in their local area if they need help fast. As you say, IM is a great way of building income when you are not under stress.

Some have mentioned CraigsList as a source of work. I suggest a person in need beware of that. It's the last place to look, IMO. Start with family, friends and others in your network ("friends of friends"). There is no shame in asking for work. We have all done it at some point in our lives. People understand times are tough and are willing to help out when they can.
