If you're desperate to earn some money, stay away from the online work. It's likely you will lose there more than you earn, or you will be earning very slow (due to saturation of the markets) before you establish yourself and some big checks start to come in.

Try consulting local yellow pages or craigslist for some local job openings.... or offer there that you will do the gardening work, massages or therapeutic services. These are always in need.

If you can write good articles, use this skill of your to make money. May be you know data entry or SEO or web design. Go for it. It is your skill which will lead you towards money.

I haven't been through all 15 ages of this thread but do have something useful to say hoping it does not duplicate any other post on this thread.

Sign up on Fiverr and post a gig saying "I'll do anything you want" but also add something to it like I am in New York or I am an architect(if you are one) or something about your background so that people can think something out for you. Also ask people to contact you first and then buy the gig lest they ask you to do something which you may not be able to do or even not prefer to do.

You will be surprised with the results you get and if you work well you will feature in the top ratings page which is like page one on Google!

You can also post gigs on Gigbucks, Tenbucks and dozens of other sites like Fiverr.

With EBay you can make an auction without the item physically in hand. When an ONLINE buyer purchases your item, PayPal pays you instantly so now you can go to a supplier and buy it, package it up than mail it out.

With this method you can be desperate in the morning and have no worries by nighttime. You just need an established Paypal/EBay account with no restrictions so you can get paid instantly. This will not work if Paypal needs customer feedback before releasing the funds.

Your method of Drop-Shipping and who you choose to use as a suppler is up to you. There are tons of creative ways to do it. I am just giving you the basis. Now all you have to do is some research and find some items that you can resell. Good Luck!!

There are SO many different things you can do to drum up some quick cash. I've even gone so far as to donate plasma. In the area I say they'll pay anywhere from $25 to $40 per donation. And in most areas you can donate twice in a 7 day period. It may not be a lot of money but every little bit helps.

A common technique, but very easy to do.
Go to car boot sales (Or I guess garage sales over in the US), look for items being sold for cheap that you know you could make a profit on by selling on eBay. Buy said item (Make sure to haggle to get a cheaper price), sell the item on eBay and enjoy the small profit!

Transport - try and walk as much as you can, or ride a bike. Sure cuts down on those fuel bills. Too far? A bus? Or at least try and minimise your driving as much as possible.

Entertainment - this is usually a huge cost, and so have a think about free things you can do around your area.

Drop your mobile phone to a smaller plan, or don't renew your credit if you're on prepay. You can do without outgoing calls for awhile.

Disconnect things you don't need, such as pay TV.

Join one or more of the ubiquitous IM Skype and Facebook Groups and offer a professional service that you are capable and competent of doing for an affordable price.

Simply ask if anyone could use XYZ services done. And if so, to just let you know. The services can be anything related to IM such as writing, graphic work, programming, virtual assistance - whatever.

When they ask "how much" - invite them to chat with you further and quote them a price you know they'll love. Don't low-ball yourself. Just quote something that's below the normal, average price.

Deliver great work at the promised price and news about you will spread like wildfire... resulting in more work for you.

I did this recently and got 2 copywriting clients this way.

Process 2:
Lead Generation Product Creation

Now it's time to create a free report, audio or video that we give away in exchange for a name and email address.

To choose a topic on which you want to write your report about, consider the major problems your market has.

If you've chosen the health and fitness market then a large proportion want to lose weight.

If it's the dating market then a large proportion want to learn how to find, hook up with and keep their ideal partner.

Create a quality product that people would be happy to pay money for.

Process 3:
Squeeze Page Creation

Create a squeeze page with one primary focus... to get people to enter their name and email address and to download your free report.

Process 4:
Membership Site Creation

Once a visitor has opted in to our list, we want to immediately present them with an offer for our $15-$30 membership site. At this price range it's a fairly easy sell without having to have a strong existing relationship with our prospects.

Plus, it's really easy to create a membership site like this and provide value. At $20, it would be sufficient to create 4 premium articles about 1500-2000 words per month. Convert them into PDFs and deliver them to members. Add some interactivity to improve retention such as a question form and then compile all questions into a PDF and answer them at the end of each month. Add additional value by providing videos, audios and reports from other marketers - or create them yourself.

Create your salesletter for your membership using all the traditional sales page tactics.

Process 5:
Creating Your High Value Offer

Now, this is where the real money is. Selling physical products at $200 plus is where most of our profit will come from.

Plus, creating high value products isn't as hard as you think... if you're comfortable talking or being in front of a camera. I'm not, but there are plenty of workarounds to this.

When creating your high value offer, structure it like a step by step crash course. For example, how to do _________ in x number of days. And then the product takes on the form of a video product detailing exactly what you have to do on each day to achieve the desired outcome. Each video should last about one hour and that will be one DVD.

A typical structure for a high value physical product is to have 6 DVDs and then 2 Bonus DVDs.

Here's an example of a product that you could create in the weight loss market and sell for $200 plus...

Process 6:
Linking It All Together

Each step at the moment on it's own isn't worth much, but when each one is linked together to form a functional, automatic system, then it can create a huge income.

Here's how the system should work. (I've taken this section from a report I'm currently working on...)

Step 1:
You drive incredible amounts of traffic to your squeeze page (we'll talk about this in a minute) and a percentage of visitors opt-in to become subscribers

Step 2.1:
Those who subscribe are entered into a “prospects” follow up sequence designed to pull sales in for your membership, your high value offers and some affiliate offers. (The follow up sequence will be described in more detail in just a minute.)

Step 2.2:
Again, those who entered their name and email address on your squeeze page are redirected to your salespage for your $15-30 membership.

Step 3:
Some of your new subscribers will also become members of your membership and will be added to your “members” follow up sequence and removed from your “prospects” follow up sequence.

Step 4:
Those who join your membership will then be redirected to your high value offer salespage. A small proportion will invest in your high value course and will be automatically added to your “exclusive” follow up sequence and removed from your “members” follow up sequence.

That’s the overview of the opt-in process, but that’s not where the bulk of your money is made.

Most of your profit will come from developing rock solid relationships with your subscribers. You need to get them to know, like and trust you. That’s when they’ll buy your $297+ physical products – and remember, that’s where the profits are.

Process 7:
Pumping Leads Into Your Business

The main objective now is to get as many leads into our business as possible. The more leads join the top of our business, the more leads come out of the bottom when they purchase our memberships and high value offers.

There are loads and loads of ways of getting leads in, but we're gonna focus on just one...

Affiliates and JV traffic.

You need to set your process up so that affiliates can drive traffic to your squeeze page and then earn money on the leads they've referred that join your membership and purchase your high value offers.

I use Rapid Action Profits, but I believe you can use 1ShoppingCart or Infusionsoft.

Then it's just a case of finding JVs and affiliates and optimizing your sales process and generating a deeper and wider sales funnel.

Spend the minimum amount possible until you at least have a good understanding of the basics and what you want to do with your online endeavours, then go from there.

Having the Debit Card can allow you to have funds immediately available upon making a sale, and when you're desperate, that's priceless.

Go to services that match employers and employee.

Odesk, Fiverr, elance, iwriter.

You literally trade your time for money. It's not much but it's a great start to learn skills.

Then when you know how to market your services, do cold calling, sales pitches, webinars, sales meetings, and sell your services.

Again, your time vs money earned.

Bad times were brewing. I held on for 8 months trying to right the ship. I stopped paying ALL of my bills, and the creditors stopped calling when the phone company cut off the phone, and life got better. I gradually sold everything I owned on Craigslist, just to help bring in cash. I got a part-time job at a call center as a customer service rep.

When everything finally imploded and I filed Chapter 7 and the bank took my house, I was back sleeping in a car and took a $10/hr job in a brand new career field. Within 18 months, I helped that small company triple their average monthly revenue, created myself a more luxurious position in the firm, and eventually left to start my own firm in that same service industry.

Bottom line, in my opinion: No matter the economic conditions, there is always work to be done. If you make the effort to look presentable, and demonstrate an incredible work ethic, you will always be of use to somebody, somewhere, for something.

Wow, quite the wild ride you have had. I really admire your work ethic. It does pay to pay attention to economic indicators. I sold my home in 2005 because I could see housing was in a gigantic bubble. One of the smarter things I did, looking to finally get back in now. The trick is to do the opposite everyone else does... No matter how tempting, and how wrong you feel for being alone in what you are doing. Contrarian investing is important if you want to keep everything you worked hard for.

I've been desperate more times in my life than I can count, sometimes due to bad planning and sometimes due to bad luck. My wife and I joke that our exercise regimen consists of getting up after the world yanks the carpet out from under us.

So, a few ideas to make a quick buck. Not online, since that seems to have been amply covered here, but locally, with a bit of labor. I've done all of these at one time or another, so I know they work.

1. Cleaning Windows.
A bucket, some soap, a rag, and a squeegee. A few years ago, my wife and I had both lost our jobs within about 2 weeks of each other. Mine went away when the company downsized and laid off 20,000+ people, and my wife's went away when her boss decided to minimize the payroll by firing everyone who had been there more than a year so she could rehire at lower wages. We were desperate for money to pay the bills and feed the kids. With my last $50 and a full tank of gas in the family car, I went and bought the items I needed, then started hitting up the local mom and pop stores to tell them I'd clean the outside of their windows for $5 a pane (they were the big plate glass windows). The first day, I made $80 plus an extra $10 and a pack of cigarettes from cleaning the windows on cars. This also led to other money, since I'm fairly handy and a lot of mom and pop shops can't afford to have a maintenance man on staff to fix things. I ended up making a fairly decent living fixing things for those stores, and it was all because I offered to wash some windows for a cheap price.

2. Moving Help.
If you've got a strong back, throw an ad up on Craigslist offering to help people move. If you don't have a strong back but are a good organizer, offer to help pack up their non-personal items to help them get ready for the move. If you live in an apartment, which I currently do, you can throw a flyer up on the local bulletin board or at the mailboxes offering the same services. Last week I made $50 in about 3 hours just by helping to unload the truck of a family that was moving in. I don't count on that money for a living, but if I wanted to dedicate myself to promoting the business I probably could keep the lights on and the kids fed by doing it.

3. General Labor.
This is the one most overlooked, because a lot of people feel that it's beneath them, but throw up a flyer at the grocery store or wherever else you can think of and offer a list of jobs that you'll do. It can be anything from weeding the flowerbed to raking leaves to cutting grass (customer supplies the lawn mower and gas, you supply the labor). I've even had people hire me to bring the stuff down out of their attic so they could go through it and organize. The goal is to be cheaper than the average handyman in your area, but charge enough to keep the lights on. And as always, the key is to get repeat business, unless you're only after a quick buck today and not worried about tomorrow. Show up dressed in appropriate attire, be polite and friendly, and do what they want you to do as well as or better than anyone else could. One customer can turn into 10 within days if they like you, and one customer can turn into 0 within minutes if you screw up.

4. This is another one for people in apartments, and it takes a bit of guts to pull it off, since you'll have to talk fast to get hired for it. Most people know that when they leave an apartment they're going to lose their security deposit for some reason or another. I know very few who ever got that deposit back, even if they left the apartment spotless. So, most people don't bother with cleaning out the apartment when they leave. And in the case of evictions, depending on your area, there's no time to clean the place out. Apartment complexes usually have a maintenance staff, but they're usually so overwhelmed with work that they don't have time to do clean-outs, especially in high turnover complexes. Go find the manager, owner, or whoever is in charge and offer to do the cleanouts for a cheap amount. And I do mean cheap, since this isn't where you're actually making money. It's been about 2 decades since I did this one, but I used to charge $50 to clean out a 2 bedroom apartment, provided they supplied a dumpster or a trailer to load the trash and junk onto. Anything that's trashed, worthless, or defective goes into the trash. Anything that is electronic, books, kitchenware, or clothes goes home with you. Clean it up, then sell it either on Craigslist (not good if you're desperate, as it may take a while), or at local pawn shops and thrift stores. That tiny television that they didn't bother taking may not look like much, but if you can get $10 for it at the pawn shop it's worth it. DVDs are a big seller at pawn shops as well, as are CDs. Don't take regular household items to pawn shops, they don't want them. Instead, clothes, books, and kitchen items go to consignment stores or thrift shops. Yeah, you'll get pennies on the dollar for them, but they'll be more pennies than you had before, and it all adds up.

I've found some of the best odd job work I've ever had by being in the right area at the right time. If it's Saturday morning and you see the neighbor out cutting the grass, stop and talk, explain your situation, and ask if you can cut the grass for them to make $20. Maybe they'll say no, but chances are something will come up that they will pay you to do.

Nowadays it is very easy for ANYONE to buy a domain name, get cheap hosting, use Wordpress, and start a basic site. Focus on a niche, ad tons of unique original content as much as you can per day, and through Adsense on there (at least to begin). There is no reason someone cannot do this and start to earn something online.
There's are tons of tutorial where they literally hold you hand on how to get Wordpress up and running (with GoDaddy it is the push of a few buttons).

Anything that's trashed, worthless, or defective goes into the trash. Anything that is electronic, books, kitchenware, or clothes goes home with you. Clean it up, then sell it either on Craigslist (not good if you're desperate, as it may take a while), or at local pawn shops and thrift stores. That tiny television that they didn't bother taking may not look like much, but if you can get $10 for it at the pawn shop it's worth it. DVDs are a big seller at pawn shops as well, as are CDs. Don't take regular household items to pawn shops, they don't want them. Instead, clothes, books, and kitchen items go to consignment stores or thrift shops. Yeah, you'll get pennies on the dollar for them, but they'll be more pennies than you had before, and it all adds up.

I've found some of the best odd job work I've ever had by being in the right area at the right time. If it's Saturday morning and you see the neighbor out cutting the grass, stop and talk, explain your situation, and ask if you can cut the grass for them to make $20. Maybe they'll say no, but chances are something will come up that they will pay you to do.

I would recommend starting a paid email newsletter.

Most email service providers offer a free trial account, making it easy and near free to deliver content. You don't need a blog but if you want you could use a free Wordpress blog or create a custom FB tab to drive traffic to.

Offer a weekly newsletter sharing one tip a week on whatever you're most knowledgable about. You could charge something like $10 a month, and use either PayPal or Amazon Payments for your merchant account.

You could have this up and running in about 2 hours and be making money.

Thanks. Trust me, I've had to find creative ways to make an income on occasion. If I put my mind to it, i could probably write an ebook on the subject and market it to the masses. Hmmm... may have to look into that idea.

Unfortunately, the best-laid plans don't always keep the wolf at bay. As in the situation I posted earlier, my wife and I both lost our jobs within 2 weeks of each other through no fault of our own. We had over $1500 in the bank account and were building that back up (new baby=lots of expenses), but when the rug gets yanked out from under you it doesn't usually happen with a warning. $1500 was a drop in the bucket compared to what we needed to pay all the bills, and jobs were scarce at the time as the city we were living in was starting to tank economically.

That being said, we now do have strategies and plans in place to mitigate the blow if something like that were to happen again, but we honestly wouldn't be able to last more than a few months without steady income. Still not bad considering it wasn't all that long ago that we went through a foreclosure, a move across country, and nearly went bankrupt.

I myself found a great way to make some "fast money" with Video Marketing.

Basically:

1) Choose a good Amazon/Clickbank product
2) Make your keyword research
3) Create some videos and upload them
4) Ping the video, add some views and if possible, add some backlinks to it

Youtube it's becoming the #01 search engine in the world (some say that it's going to be the #1 in 2013) and you can make some nice recurring sales from it.

Of course, the problem is the following: Even if you make a few sales the very same day you upload the video, you STILL need to way for Clickbank or Amazon to clear your funds =)

This is the IM world, that's how things work I guess.

Here is my input:

1. Have a positive mindset

2. Go to microwokers.com and complete some jobs and earn an extra $10 in a few hours

3. Repeat for a few days (you can also offer other services like writing articles)

4. After you have $100 or so, start buying websites from digitalpoint and selling them on flippa for a profit

5. After $1000+ or so from site flipping and write a report about your experience in making money online

6. Sell as WSO, maybe clickbank -> build a buyers list

7. Increase your list by doing adswaps, solo ads and other techniques (offer your wso for fee on thank you pages maybe)

8. Monetize your list

9. Buy or build websites which make passive income from sales or adsense until you reach your desired monthly income

10. Hire other people to maintain your sites

11. Drink cocktail on beech (don't forget to wear sunscreen)

I am thankful for the tons of useful information here. You can just tell that a lot of experience lies within.

As for me, I'm not quite desperate. . . yet. I have a good job making a decent salary but it is highly likely that I will not be in this position much longer. I am likely to be unemployed before the end of this year. It could be anytime now.

I have some limited traction. . . I am working on an authority website in a popular niche which both concerns me and gives me hope at the same time. The site has been up for a while so it has been indexed. It has limited content and I have been in the process of adding more. There is a blog associated with it and I continue to plug along to add value/content to it. This will primarily be an Amazon affiliate site with some other affiliate offers sprinkled throughout along with Adsense and the occasional CPA once I get comfortable. As we all know, this is a Long Term strategy.

Secondly, I have an Ebook in the works and more than a few ideas for several others. I recognize that one needs to be in the same niche as my authority site ideally. The Ebook that I am furthest along on, is "semi-related" to my niche, meaning, I could probably spin it within the brand I envision creating. I switched over to focusing on the website as this has been around for a while, I am already paying for hosting etc., and given its long term nature, I figured this was a s good a place as any to start. I am planning article marketing, forum posting and likely FB and YT to start to drive traffic. Possibly PPC but I am VERY green and wary about that at the moment.

Finally, I am considering CPA offers for my future. I recognize that there is lot to be learned here as well. Frankly, the appeal right now is that it seems that this may have more potential for short term earnings. However, I know less about this than the other business models and of course, I am a relative newbie to it all.

My dilemma: In light of the impending changes, where should I direct most of my energy? My issue is, while I believe in IM, I need to see some dollars in order to get further motivated and truly see and experience the potential. I can "almost" feel and taste it but without some money to fuel me, I'm afraid I may just play it safe and put all my energy into another job. Frankly, without going into much detail, that option is more than a bit shaky at the moment as well. By the way, I have a tiny bit of change in my Adsense account but this was just likely a fluke. It IS a little exciting though.

So the particulars, I have a good 6 months of leeway, and probably could last a year without another full time gig especially if I have "some" money coming in from other pursuits. As far as my preferences and 'skill for IM', I prefer Ebooks and authority websites first as my means to earning a living.

So folks, what advice do you have for me? If you were in my shoes, what would be your plan of attack? Where would you put your energy and focus?

Hi Paul, Five years ago I was desperate and about to lose my home. I used a credit card and had some A5 leaflets printed by Vista print.
I promoted myself as a gardening expert. Mow your lawn and cut your hedges etc. It's not exactly difficult work to do! I delivered these by hand to my local neighberhood. I got two customers within days at £12-00 UK per hour (About $18-00).
Within 6 weeks I was earning enough to keep the wolf at bay. IT was hard dirty work and very boring. IT will not make anyone rich, but if you are starving
it does work!

If you are desperate you could look in your local yellow pages for either "employment agency" or "employment contractor", or "staffing". There are companies like Addecco, Manpower, Labor Ready, Workforce, Kelly Personel etc that you can get registered with. Just take one day and get registered at as many as you can. Tell them you need cash as soon as possible and are willing to do anything.

Give them a number that you can be reached at because you are usually notified by phone with just a matter of hours before the start of each shift.

The key to getting work as a temporary worker is making yourself available.

Staffing agencies also prefer people with vehicles, so if you have one, be sure to let them know. They may or may not ask you to transport an additional worker with you. It is an asset though, so be sure to tell them, so they know you can be called upon for last minute work where somebody needs a vehicle to get there.

Here is what a guy I knew did in 1983 when all he had was an old car and very little cash.

1. Lived in his car. Stated the key was to keep it and the clothes you had in the car clean and neat so if you were presented an opportunity to work you didn't look and smell bad.

2. Food-He lived off $2.00 or less per day and ate mostly can goods and things that wouldn't spoil fast.

3. gym- He joined one to stay social and to shower and shave so he would be clean each day. Some might say a gym membership is useless when you have little or no money. I believe he was right as it would help keep your sanity in trying circumstances. You can join a gym in my area for $10 an month with a 3 month commitment and like he told me, you can shower and clean up there . That is .33 a day for a shower and a workout if you want.

4. Jobs- Go to every small business in the area you live and see if they have anything. A lots been posted on this so I want say anything else about it. If you need to apply over the internet go to the library or unemployment office.

5. Keep up with any friend you have. You might find one who refers you to a job or has a job for you.

Everything changes, you maybe broke today and tomorrow fortune may be smiling on you.

Keep your head up and stay in the best mood you possibly can as this to will pass.

Being desperate is very stressing, but it can be the best thing that will happen to you, as it's how you get out of it and the fulfillment to overcome such a challenge. You will learn alot about yourself and look at things differently..which is a very good lesson in life IMO.

We all tend to overcomplicate things, start off getting a whiteboard, write out your goals for the week and cross them off as you go. You'd feel alot more organized afterward, believe me.

Think about what skills you have, and start advertising, getting the word out there, keep over delivering and jobs will eventally fall into your lap

This has been a fascinating thread (it only took me 2 days to read every post). No matter what issues one is facing, discovering what others are going through, not only puts things into perspective, it's humbling.
I can relate to such hardships after losing my father in Hurricane Katrina, breaking up with a girlfriend soon afterwards (where we had a combined 6 figure income) and ridden out Hurricane Isaac last month while living in a studio that is smaller than closets I've seen in some homes.
PERSPECTIVE is what exists between your ears, not the external reality that is presented to our senses. Once this is understood, opportunity seems to exists everywhere.
If anybody has been able to read these posts, then it's a given that they have electricity, a computer, Internet access, access to running water and a roof over their head (even if it's a roof of a friend or family member).
With that being said, you are already better off than the majority of the world's population.
More importantly, within those resources, there is a wealth of opportunity. When one of the richest men in the world (at that time of that interview) was asked, "what is the secret to accumulating wealth?" his response was,"develop a profound sense of gratitude". If unable to read between the lines, that is the opposite of being desperate.
Find something, find anything in your present circumstances to be incredibly grateful for.
Anybody that can manage to hold that in their thoughts for a few moments throughout the day, will realize amazing results. As visionaries throughout history have attempted to tell us,"change your thoughts and the world changes".

A quick and easy option is to run through the Fiverr gigs and search Craigslist for people that those specific things done. There's a special WSO for software that has to do with this but if you're low on funds, doing it manually isn't too bad of an option. It's worth a try, if somebody wants a logo for $50 and you can get a professional one for $5 then why not?

Sell your stuff on ebay is a great idea. But that's probably for people who wish to stick it through the hard times, not a permanent solution. Go to youtube, search the most popular topics/videos of the month or week and replicate the content. Host it up on youtube and hope for views. You can get some cash from ads. Or better, direct them to your website( maybe do a WSO or two), in a few weeks time boom you might just hit your first big break.
