Microsoft Forced to Upgrade IE.. lol

by TheRichJerksNet 7 replies
Hey everyone,
Now as a developer and designer I find this very interesting so thought I would share. I remember not long ago AOL shut down development for Netscape ( my personal opinion microsuck paid them off )..

At that time it was reported that IE had something like 70% of the browser market. Well it seems old microsoft is being forced (in order to try and win the war, which they will not win) to be more browser friendly and show sites properly as they should.

IE has always sucked in a developers eyes because the browser just has problems with simple html sites let alone complex database driven sites.

Well found this today

10 things to love (and hate) about IE 8 | 10 Things | TechRepublic.com

Which should make developers jobs 100% easier as now we will not have to try and do all those freaking tweaks just for those that insist on using IE.

Thanks for the link. I hope IE8 lives up to the hype (unlike IE7). In the meantime, I'm going to stick with Firefox.

I have to agree, IE has always sucked for web designers, I got tired of telling my clients to upgrade past IE 6 (which most people still have) and having to apply special Direct-X hacks to allow IE 6 to display PNG's with transparency.

Not to mention all the CSS differences that it just turns it's nose up at. IE 8 seems to have addressed most of the issues I came across and seems to be a lot more standards compliant. Fingers crossed they have taken their propitiatory heads out of their asses and will make ours lives just that bit easier.

I agree.. Finally, it's about time microsuck does something right for the web community.

Personally I will stay with my netscape browser but I do have all of them installed on all my systems.

Everytime IE improves they still end up behind Firefox.... Firefox has remained a better browser imo. (for developers and site browsers)

yeah, I don't use IE anymore. Here's a simple example:

recently I needed to upgrade Microsoft Office. I order to do that, you need to use IE. Well, that thing crashed about 4 times before I could upgrade. It sucked and it's extremely slow to say the least.

I use Firefox and love it. It's fast, it might crash after having 15 tabs open with several streaming videos in several tabs. Microsoft has its work cut out for them.

      I've been trying IE8 Beta2.

For me the most annoying thing is that it doesn't display lots of websites properly and you have to click on the "compatibility mode" button to make them look right. Typical Micr0s0ft - change everything. I think they've shot themselves in the foot.
