Google's Own John Mueller Has Openly Praised Digital PR
So, what exactly is Digital PR? It's basically building awareness and credibility by creating stuff and then pointing people toward it. Many of us have likely been doing that for ages and ages - we just didn't know it was called digital PR until recently or just now - primarily because it actually wasn't called digital PR until recently!
The author of this article explains they've been using this sort of practice for fifteen years to build links to corporate B2B sites and remembers that way back, you couldn't engage in desperate low level link strategies like reciprocal linking with a B2B corporate site, so it was necessary to come up with popularity-building strategies that wouldn't raise eyebrows at the corporate HQ. It's just link building but more difficult. We're told that the modern version of low level desperation link building is guest posting, and you can't do that if you're B2B.
Is digital PR are just low level link building renamed? This is what John Mueller had to say during a discussion about the problems around recruiting for digital PR:
"So digital PR/link building recruitment is kinda mad at the moment, but one good thing I think that will come of it is digital PR salaries rising. Tech SEO has traditionally been far better paid (still is) but it's nice to see digital PR talent being valued. I love some of the things I see from digital pr, it's a shame it often gets bucketed with the spammy kind of link building. It's just as critical as tech SEO, probably more so in many cases." |
