Certain big brands will be MIA on Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl 55 will kick off on Sunday, but many familiar brands will be absent from the annual championship game, according to Adweek.

In the past, brands like Budweiser and Hyundai have all produced some of the top-rated ads in history but these two won't be making the Super Bowl.

One of the biggest challenges in advertising this year is tone, as advertisers have to either address the hardship that was 2020 or provide a moment of levity. Even so, it's not that easy. Dipanjan Catterjee, VP and Principal Analyst at Forrester, says:

"With the pandemic in full swing, new and more infectious variants popping up [and] vaccinations trailing original schedules, a cloud of uncertainty hovers over the Super Bowl and brands aren't looking to plop down $5.5 million on something that's not a sure bet."
The other MIA brands are:
  • Coca-Cola
  • Avocados from Mexico
  • GoDaddy
  • Walmart
