Do freelancers need a "company vision"?

Opinion 1: Some people say that you (or your business) should have a vision you share with your employees, freelancers and team members.

That way, they will feel inspired and feel like they take part in a mission they need to accomplish.

Note: I'm not refering to whether you should have a vision for yourself or your business. I'm talking about the need to constantly communicate a vision with employees.

Opinion 2: Others say that employees and freelancers already have their own "visions" - which may include things like:
  • Do tasks they are skilled at.
  • Get paid fairly (or well).
  • Be able to pay their rent, food, clothing, gas, education, etc.
  • Be able to do things they enjoy like hobbies or spending time with their loved ones.
So, a "company vision" isn't necessary.

    Those things in your Opinion 2 list aren't vision.

    I checked out the awesome resources you mentioned. They are a great way to create a vision.

    My question still remains though. Is such a vision necessary to share with employees? Or is it like a "business plan" that mostly banks and investors care about?

    My confusion comes from the fact I have hired people who have done great work, without me sharing a vision with them. I just made sure to give them clear instructions and pay them as agreed.

    I guess the answer to my question may be "It depends on the employee, and the vision can't hurt."

        I feel the core message is that we need to ask:

        "Based on our strengths, how can we add value to others?"

        Then we need to focus on the top 3 priorities and go for it.

    I think it's doesn't matter in the high-priority. In other side, will be good if you have a company vision, this can increase your personal rate and your valuation as the specialist. In this reasion, better if you have, than not

    Hi!
    In my humble opinion, the company vision is required for the company's employees/freelancers to work together. If there is no vision the goals will be directionless to approach. But, if there is a proper vision of the company it will give access to employees/freelancers to accomplish the goals with the help of their skill set, and fulfilling their vision.

    what matters is you have a great pitch for your service that you offering. And why you do it. Everytme you speak to your employees, you are pitching them your vision anyways...
