Your opinion on the short-lived burger king tweet

Burger King recently put up a tweet that read "Women belong in the kitchen" although it was soon after removed. Considering their point of view, do you think they were right to remove it or it do you think it shouldn't have been put up in the first place?

      Agreed, it was completely tone-deaf.

      Since it's gone viral it may have served a purpose for them, one free tweet , everybody is talking them today, zero in ad spend.

    To be honest, I found the tweet to be in bad taste.

    I understand the idea of it. There was a way they could have used the controversial tweet to bring attention to their scholarship program. But the strategy was executed badly. There was not context for the tweet. The "explanation" came too late. AND they doubled down after the initial wave of criticism came in.

    They should have easily introduced the scholarship program within the tweet by attaching the image about it. They shouldn't have waited 2 hours to explain their tweet.

    I think it sets a bad precedence. If every major company started tweeting "tone-deaf" sentences and then removing them with an apology and explanation, where does that end?

    If they 'started' doing this? "They" have been doing it for some time just to get those headlines that people talk about - and post about on forums....


    The real story is the lack of public intelligence that jumps to a 'conclusion' and screams in outrage...rather than looking at the actual reason/thinking of the ad. What was dumb was assuming people were smart enough to 'get it'...what was offensive was the idea that culinary arts have anything to do with gender.



    Next - 'they' will pull "The Wizard of Oz" because it is offensive to people without brains.

    The cynic in me does wonder whether this was a calculated risk taken by BK in the name of 'all publicity is good publicity.' It most likely wasn't (more likely some combo of tone deaf / lazy research / "too clever" messaging) ... but BK is obviously very aware of the times we're living in, and one would assume a message like this at a corporation that size, required multiple levels of approval by many seasoned and well paid marketing managers/VPs, many of whom I'd *assume* questioned whether such an easily misinterpretable and potentially objectionable line was truly their best option.

      the more I think on it, the more I agree here. Quadruple reach also does include greater awareness of the scholarship offered. Wonder how many more applicants they got/will get versus baseline expectations due to tactic?

    I wish more companies would be absurd like that. anyone offended is weak minded, anyone who thinks the people that wrote that truly believe that, are just (I will end that statement there, would not want anyone running to their quiet place to cry).

    Everyone now believes that if they do not focus their marketing efforts on the crybabies of the world then they will go broke. It is truly sad. Just look at what gets the most shares and likes on the different social media sites. let me tell you, they aint woke
