New Domain for Old site

Hello,

I have a 10+yr domain that is no longer ranking very well despite fresh, frequently updated quality content (starting in Dec). The domain was dormant for a while, had a malware issue on the server, was using an auto-poster, there's now more competition in the niche, a few issues. At any rate, I can't figure out what's wrong with it and I'm finished with trying to get it to rank.

I've purchased a better, more keyword focused domain name. My question: I'm going to use the good content. Should I create a new site with this domain and remove the old one completely, or 301 redirect the old pages/domain to the new site? There are some backlinks but nothing worth crying about if they are lost.

    I would be careful with duplicate content posting from the new domain - I would try and only use your best content on your new site to differentiate it a bit from your last domain which was burned.

    I would 301 redirect the old domain to the new one.

    Just summon the courage to create a new site and enter a sub-niche that is less competitive.

    Maybe some mistakes on the old domain is what's causing it not to rank well.

    It's better to start new and walk on the right path than channeling energy on what you don't have a clue on.

    Just my opinion though.

    I highly recommend you be careful with the duplicate content. It is better not to use the same content as your old domain name. Try to rewrite them in a better way because Google has a negative bias towards duplicate content.
