BS that passes for advice.
This includes the pass the buck mentality that both newbies and experienced marketers display.
I can't read a thread without somebody; either a 'guru' or a 'newbie' expressing disappintment in the other.
Well hell's bells folks what do you expect from a 'you owe me' mentality.
Here's a perfect example of what I'm referring: Now whether or not you actually have this belief I'm not judging.
But: this follows the old theme "you might be a redneck if you..."
Given or asked advice on using a "free platform" like wordpress.org, or squidoo, or hub pages, facebook, twitter, or any other nonsense that passes as marketing advice. Or the myraid of questions about PR, take that to mean either page rank or press releases or artice submissions. Nothing in any of that discourse do I see value being added to other people's lives. In that, what you want to disseminate does it make the person(s) coming to your website any better for it? Or does it just make you a buck?
You marketers ,are you any better?
You have threads here, "Why don't or why can't newbies do..." fill in the blank. You are just as guilty as the newbies are of promoting the disconnect between a service and the recipent. Find a profitable niche then separate the suspect from their money. Best if you can do it from a distance.
Like the govt has been doing for forty years and we are buying into as marketers or wannabes; that is putting a frog in warm water and gradually turning up the heat until his/her goose is cooked. In the course of doing that we are both being slowly turned on a spit.
Most newcomers to IM have no marketing or business experience, they are at least its true for me, were mostly employees.
We (newbies) have for most part bought into the free lunch concept and you marketers have for the most part re-enforced that notion with the trigger words of, 'secret, free, easy, brain-dead, simple,' add your flavor here in emails we all recieve.
I am just as guilty as anyone so don't think I'm pointing any fingers at anybody but me. I already know this is true about me and going forward I hope to cure myself of this 'you owe me' disease. My reason for posting this that I hope you might take a step towards a cure.
In short if you're asking for or giving advice to a percieved shortcut that isn't geared towards the person you're looking to serve then you've bought into this free lunch mentality.
I hope you get just as angry with me as I have just become with myself for nurturing these habits.
Let me end by saying, I mean no one any ill will nor harm, it is just something I needed to say.
Have a beautiful day, I know I will.
