Expired domains strategy?? (Not PBN)

I had a thought the other night. Would it be possible to purchase expired domains that get traffic, then reconstruct the pages using a tool like wayback machine with similar or even the same content as before. Put adsense up and repeat? Even if the site only makes a few hundred dollars a year.. well that more than covers the domain and website hosting. Has anyone tried this? Is it possible to scale this just by purchasing additional domains and copying content?

Thank you

Forward that domain name to your own website. Preferably an opt in page to build your own list.

Yes you can do that, it's actually a thing that a lot of affiliate niche site investors and SEO guys do. The market had been expanding with everything and prices going up. But there are guys sitting there just looking at data of expired domains and backlinks all day.

If the domain has a lot of backlinks you are going to need to put in a backorder for the domain, if there is more than one backorder the domain goes to the highest bidder at auction.

I do this all the time - it's quite popular with bigger SEO guys. Just make sure you check the sites backlink profile for spammy links (chinese characters are a good indicator).

If you don't mind the old site owner coming after you for copyright infringement, sure.

Buying the old domain doesn't give you the rights to the old content.

Before someone says something stupid like, "That is unlikely to happen..." or, "You can just take the content down if it happens..."

Sure, but if it does, it is potentially expensive and will most likely wipe out more than just your profits. Just taking the content down will not protect you. If you are lucky and they are nice, that might be all they ask for, however, they can pursue much more if they choose to. At that point, it is too late. Taking the content down won't make a difference.

Also, ignorance of the law is not a legal defense.

Warrior Forum was actually selling a product that did this at one time back when a complete moron was the administrator. Brilliant move.

I also did this before, it works.
What i use to find the domains is a software called Expired Domain Spider.
Its cheaper than auction domains as you can find expired ones that you can just register for the normal domain fee.

That depends what you mean by reconstruct the pages. Like Mike said, you could run into serious problems if you do not do it right.

If you can reconstruct the pages with original content and keep the SEO intact, it should work. Might take more time, though, then you'll think it's worth it to get a couple hundred dollars a year.

You should NOT be using the original content. That's copyright infringement.

My mistake. I did not mean use the original but create equal (or better) and similar intent content.

If you find a page about the 5 benefits of FHA mortgages, create a page with what you think the benefits of FHA mortgages are, using your own examples... keeping the keywords in the right places.

Most people who try this do not have enough experience / knowledge in the topic to do anything useful... Going with my FHA example, if you've been getting people FHA loans for the past 10 years, you'll find a way to bring something new / original... If you're an unusual internet marketer, you'd interview someone who's been getting people FHA loans for the last 10 years.

Most internet marketers, however, will just Google FHA loans, rephrase whatever pops up in the top page... and create waste.

Yes this is what I was meaning. Not copy and pasting the content but rewriting it at the bare minimum. If the site has decent traffic and backlinks it might be worth someone putting the site back together again.

From the looks of things a couple of things are apparent: Most domains that get traffic are quickly snatched up, and the ones due to expire go through a bidding process where the domain goes to the highest bidder. No decent domains with enough traffic are left untouched without considerable searching. So in a way, it's really no different to buying live sites on platforms like Flippa except you are competing against a much smaller pool of buyers and might be able to snatch up a bargain with enough hustle.

There are some marketers who buy expired domains I don't know about trying to reconstruct old content. That's way too time consuming. Most veterans will buy 'relevant' domains to their niche and just redirect them to your sales pages
