5-day challenges seem to be the new cool thing to do, at least in the MMO/IM/Online marketing areas.

Have any of you tried to do one for yourself? Or have you taken part in one that was done really well?

Do you think this is a viable marketing tactic? Why or why not?

Tried it and I have to say, it's a great lead gen tool if you get enough people to sign up. THATs the trick! It still ends up being a numbers game at the end of the day and there is definitely a strategy behind how you will then pitch something on the last day. Something I've seen but not tested is doing a webinar on the last day of the challenge and then pitching directly on the webinar while you have everyone on a high from all the info they just received. This can also serve as an opportunity to do Q/A before the pitch happens.

I think as long as you're providing a TON of value in those 5 days and people actually feel like you're one of the good ones, they'll listen and see what you have to offer at the end.

One of the things I've seen a few times is that the challenge is so hyped up that the first day content doesn't match up and there are a bunch of complaints and people leaving. Even saying they were "ripped off" although the challenge was free.

This has mostly happened when the first day deals with mindset or very beginner foundation concepts. People come ready to listen and learn what's in the sales pitch (for the challenge) and all they get is mindset or basics (even though that may be what they most need) and they get turned off.

I have not heard about the five-day challenge. I do
not keep my ears to the ground on the latest things,
I tend to stick the fundamentals.

Most people want instant gratification, so five days
sounds enticing, but what could they actually learn,
implement, and see results on in just five days?

James' comment about pitching via webinar on day
five makes it seem like a great marketing system
but how long would you spend to launch this.

If there were a formula to make it work, a five-day
    challenge could be extremely useful.
