Alternatives to WordPress

I've been thru a number of "How To Use WordPress" books. I still can't get it to make a lousy site that isn't Flooded with huge pictures. I even tried their Gutenburg and Blank Canvas themes. Getting the home page created, much less put up a link to a second or third page is like trying to Re-Invent the Wheel! I am absolutely, positively fed up with WordPress!!! All I want to do is make sites for Affiliate offers. Nothing fancy, no Huge pictures are needed. Does anyone know of a website-building software I can use on my PC? I've looked at Wix and a few other "Free Websites" sites, and they're all the same. Just tons of wasted page space inundated with huge pictures! Even the website building software's for PC at Best Buy have the same templates, full of space that's wasted with big pictures! I just want a webpage-building software for my PC that won't have me pulling what's left of my hair out. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks all of you.

There are plenty of themes that have all types of different displays. Some default small image sizes.

All you have to do is add the Smush Plugin and set it at 300x300 or custom.

There is GroovePages it has a free version blog. But you will go from one learning curve to another my friend.

I've never heard of the Smush Plugin. Ill Check out GroovePages. Thanks again.

Thanks for your reply. How do I get my "Own Hosted WordPress"? Do I hire a local webmaster to set it up? Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. Ill check out GHOST.

Thanks Chandana. I just wish WordPress would get off the ridiculous themes that have giant pics for a front page. My difficulty is just getting a left sidebar, and a right side blog for listing offers. It was tons easier years ago. Ill keep you in mind. Thanks again.

just resize your images. it is quite simple and many free photo/image editing software available. If you buy a theme they all usually have support. if you are really wanting something different that is simple then try weebly of wix

A bar of iron cost $5. Made into horseshoes, it's worth $12. Made into needles, it's worth $3500. Made into balance springs for watches, it's worth $300,000. Your value is determined by what you are able to make of yourself

Are you on your own hosting?

Because if you are on free WordPress you probably won't have much control.

Try to get your own hosted WordPress and hire somebody to set it up for you.

It's not that expensive, hire a freelancer.

GHOST is a Free and Open Source solution and is the best WP alternative one can find today imho.

It's very easy to use and it has built-in members registration and management if one wants to create a membership site which is a very good idea nowadays.

WordPress can be one of the easiest, and you can also make it one of the hardest. Always smart to think pros and cons before using time to educate.

If you're going to duke it out with Wordpress, I'd suggest to get the Socrates theme.

But you need to have your own hosting and domain.

I just upgraded to Socrates from aeon blog and I love it so far. Ease of use, faster loading time and seamless transition from my old theme.

I can't really suggest a substitute because I would have suggested something that you don't own (blogger blog, Shopify [that's a reach], etc).

Having your own domain and hosting is key. And in most cases, you don't even need to get more hosting accounts if you want to host multiple domains.

At the end of the day, you control your sites when you pay. When it's free, you can lose it at any point for any reason.

From an SEO perspective, I love WP not because it is more rankable. Thought they might be. But WP does the best job stopping hackers. Malware gets into some platforms and it's impossible to root it out of the framework. Especially when the platform owner won't give you access to their code so you clean the malware yourself. Rankings drop to nothing and everything needs to get converted to WP to get rid of the malware. Nightmare scenario? Happens all the time.

Wordpress is opensource so hackers can find bugs or vunerabilities in the framework.

I dropped Wordpress in favor of wocode.com. It is a great drag and drop website design tool that is easy to use with tons of video tutorials and templates to get you up to speed. Design your website for free and pay when you are ready to host your website. The very affordable hosting fee also comes with Free SSL. No more worries about hackers attacking your site or updates breaking your site like with Wordpress. Try it...you'll love it.

WordPress is the Best. You can find a huge number of themes and plugins to help you create awesome websites. Spend some time on the first website and you will know how easy it is.

Even alternatives require efforts from your end.

I'm a big fan of HTMLy myself. It's a flat file free blog system so no database to hack. I did a YouTube video on it but since I've been here last I head I couldn't leave a link sorry.

I was having lots of issues when I got started with wordpress last year. Never used it before and could never figure it out.

Then I decided to use Fiverr to hire someone to build me a website, opt in page, speed up my website, and a few other things.

You may try HTML5/CSS sites using Bootstrap, if you don't want to update the sites much in future. However it will be a pain to add more pages and update the menus.
