How do I approach teenagers online to promote an app without being creepy?

I'm 30 years old guy working on a game chat app that, by my research, is only interesting to teenagers.

This kind of app has a better chance to take off if a group of friends is using it, so in my case group of teenagers who are friends, who go to the same school or such.

I know I can ask influencers to promote my app or spend money on online advertising like IG, Snap or such. But I think that this game app has a better chance if I accomplish word of mouth. In that case, I need to actually contact teenagers or one teenager that is willing to try it out and share with friends,

I don't know how to approach them considering my age, it might be really creepy. How do I approach teens without being creepy?

You place ads on social media, try to use teen influencers, etc..or talk to teens you know in real life who might be interested in helping 'spread the word'. You MARKET your idea - and advertise it.

I would not even consider trying to approach teens you see online in any personal way....you are right...that's creepy.

Hey Dario2. Congrats on your new App!

I think then what you seek really is an influencer and or ad.

The word of mouth will happen naturally if they have incentive to check it out.

You have to inject a reason for it to go viral.

Maybe they can "earn" "such and such" just for "chatting/spending time on the app."

You can tie it into hot popular games or games that are soon to be launched possibly.

Has potential if you make it unique to what is already available.

I think you need to recheck your research on who is interested. Considering how much money is made by companies from in game transactions. And there are a wide range of age groups playing video games.

Did you actually ask people who play video games who they think would be interested. Or did you ask a bunch of people who don't play video games who they think would be interested. So there answer is teenagers

The reason teens would use this is exchange pornography and do things that are generally illegal and the current voice chat options out there are cracking down on.

Interested to understand why you think your app would only be interesting to teenagers? Lots of adults game too.

Many people ask me that. Well I ask a bunch of adults and they were not interested because of game's concept, on the other hand I asked young audience on forums and similar communities and they were more interested into it.

You guys think that ads and influencers are a better way to go? Should it be younger influencers like up to 20 years old or?

You can target your ads on social media specific to a particular age range - in your case, teens. Facebook Ads are very effective, as well as Instagram.
