What is the best format to use for video?

I put a few videos up yesterday and had some emails saying that they didn't work. I did them in .MOV and they worked fine on my computer in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome... so I am not sure why they didn't work for others.

I ended up putting them on Youtube and embedding them b/c I figured that would hold me over until I can get something else figured out.

Generally, what is the best format to use if you want to embed a video into your site?

    Hi Matt,

I would prefer to use Quicktime movies (.mov) but unfortunately many Windows users have problems with them. I don't know whether it's Windows at fault or the Windows users just haven't updated their Quicktime software. The folks who can't play the Quicktime movies naturally think it's Apple's fault

You'll get fewer complaints if you use Flash video and the quality is almost as good - if you encode the Flash video properly.

    Re-coding into Flash right now.
