Does anyone sell on Etsy?

I'm curious what SEO strategies you use if you sell on Etsy.

Thanks so much!

      Here you go - https://www.etsy.com/
Guess Search Engine Journal has no articles about the site.. ;>

Little more information Quoted from google search - " Etsy, Inc. is an American e-commerce company focused on handmade or vintage items and craft supplies. These items fall under a wide range of categories, including jewelry, bags, clothing, home décor and furniture, toys, art, as well as craft supplies and tools. "

You would use the same SEO tactics as anywhere else.

Place your keywords in your titles, descriptions, and the
meta section. That is the field where you enter your
    nine keyword/phrases.

It helps if you do all of your keyword research before you
setup your Etsy shop, along with deciding which products
    are actually going to sell.

Happen to be writing an article about this for a guest post.

There are 2 kinds of SEO to consider. There is external ( Google ) and what i think to be the more important of the 2 the internal results for search - meaning those ON Etsy looking to buy.

Much like my thread on eBay and specifically starting with this post ( https://www.warriorforum.com/warrior...l#post11482413 ) and reading beyond that, there are some things to be learned.

#1 If you go out to Etsy and do a search there is a limited amount of data we KNOW effect search, starting with the Title or product name that you give the listing of the item you are selling. Another term for this would be "Query Match". Etsy unlike Google is not so forgiving with this, but it has gotten better with time.

I suspect to a degree, obviously NOT the photo itself but the number of photos will be a variable. Internet generic data suggests that a minimum of 6 photos is optimal, but if you can take all available spaces. USE WHITE BACKGROUNDS - and seriously I can not emphasize this enough... Especially on Etsy, People with their product photos are trying to be all artistically creative in the production of said photos. White backgrounds outperform any other listing by 15% ( in terms of conversion ) and on Etsy itself it is a major leg up on the competition.

Again looking at the listing data we can see within Etsy.. the store name DOES NOT matter.

#2 Etsy looks at your tags, categories, and attributes - "when in doubt fill it out" is the best rule of thumb to follow here

#3 New listing boost... Just like eBay, Etsy has the same boost, seems to last somewhere between 24 and 48 hours. Not saying you should "relist" your item every other day, but if things are slowing down, it would hurt to remove the listing and then put it back up.

#4 Shipping price is a variable. FREE SHIPPING is MY preferred method and gets the most love from Etsy. Within Etsy's own data they suggest FREE SHIPPING is on average a 50% boost in Conversion - That is simply do big to ignore.

#5 They employ a "listing Quality Score" meaning they are monitoring number of clicks on the listing, how many click and come back to search etc etc. like any shopping site, they want to list products and pages that CONVERT. So the basic math of number of clicks vs number of conversions will play in your Etsy search rankings.

#6 PRICE... this one is interesting, and again there is Etsy data that suggests that something to high priced will see a 50% decrease in conversions - a number again to big to ignore. So you want to go in and search to see what others are selling for, and without question you dont want to be the most expensive, but you dont want to be the cheapest either.

#7 Customer Experience... They are looking for reviews. you want to ensure you have filled out you "Shop Policies" and "About Us" pages - doing this will boost your Etsy Search results.

#8 the last variable that I am aware of is "Shoppers Habits" This one is a bit of a wild card, it has to do with the Shopper / Buyer themselves vs the sellers they are looking at. To put that into a bit of prospective this is from Etsy:

"Our Context Specific Ranking technology learns what buyers are interested in to show them the items they're most likely to purchase.

When you search on Etsy, what you see isn't always what another buyer might be seeing. Searching for your own listings and comparing the results over time or across devices isn't an effective way to determine where your listings are appearing in search, since the results you see are just a small slice of a much bigger picture.
    "

The biggest takes from this... PHOTO and TITLE are the 2 variables that act as an AD, right? So you want to ensure your title says as much as possible. Place your PRIMARY keywords to the LEFT ( meaning beginning of sentence )

SEO Rule #1: Bots etc read the code of the page and rank based on Top to Bottom, Left to Right. Things on the top of a page are deemed more important and words to the left are deemed more important.

And E-Commerce Rule # Something: White backgrounds for image photos

So from above we have Title, then we add Tags, Categories, and Attributes. from there fill out the Store Policy Page, and include an About Us page and you are on your way.

    Hope that Helps!

That is a great post, very informative as usual, but other
things besides crafts and tangible products can be sold
      at Etsy.

Things like information products and digital stuff.

Everybody is not into that whole packing and shipping
      scene these days.

First thanks for the compliment, and second, yeah I struggled writing that part and apparently failed - as usual LOL

The phrase "Especially on Etsy, where everyone is trying to be all crafty and stuff." was not intended to read like, that how about "everyone is trying to be all ARTSY FARTSY."

but again I bet that lacks the intended meaning.. so lets go with this... People with their product photos are trying to be all artistically creative in the production of said photos, and the reality is, it is actually doing more harm than good - or so says the DATA on such subjects.

That better? English is my 1st language and I just struggle sometimes. All changed now, reads much better THANKS!

No doubt about that. Some are making a killing using a very clever method on Digital Product.

Also Etsy is very lax on Fake/Paid Reviews.

You can see them on Black Hat sites with almost exact same profile name as Etsy Listing Name for long running "Paid" Reviews".

I heard positive feedback about Etsygeeks.org that they boost ranking on Etsy. I want to try the service since they also offer money-back guarantee.
