Should I drop Social Media Marketing to focus on my SEO?

Hi to the community of Warrior Forum,

I'm currently doing Digital Marketing for an IT Solution company and we are trying to accelerate the growth of our new subscription model software products. Our main goal here is to generate more leads.

I noticed from Google Analytics, that traffic from social media to our website are reporting a 90% bounce rate while my organic bounce rate is at 50%~. Is this normal for social media traffic? Does this mean I should drop social media marketing from my list of efforts to generate more leads for the business?

*My current digital marketing efforts to generate leads (targeting Singapore only)*
1. Website SEO (First page achieved for 2-3 keywords/queries)
2. Social Media Marketing Campaigns (Ads and regular posting during campaign periods)
3. Google My Business (Knowledge panel, Google Maps, etc.)
4. Email Marketing Campaigns

Looking forward to your replies! I've read through several other threads and really appreciate the community here for sharing knowledge.

    Hi William,

This article has a good angle to try...

    https://www.rikvin.com/blog/5-low-co...pore-startups/

Give Rewards and Incentives for Content Sharing

In order to harness the full power of social media, you need a large number of followers who will "like" and share your content.

The operative word here, of course, is "share".

With this in mind, incentivize people to spread the word. Consider giving away vouchers, discounts, cash prizes, and other perks when people talk about your product or service.

This will not only help spread the word; this is a fun way to generate some buzz as well.

This is only because you are very targeted geographically that I suggest going all in on LOCAL SEO. Citation Citation Citation - which actually starts to play on the other side being Social.

If you read my response in other threads here: ( https://www.warriorforum.com/main-in...l#post11684870 ) OR here: ( https://www.warriorforum.com/main-in...l#post11683884 ) You start to understand that getting yourself in front of like minded - product needing individuals is the obvious key. You need to locate any and every possible spot on the net your ideal customer is hanging out... you need to INTERACT in those locations - NOT SELL - but INTERACT. You need to develop AUTHORITY.

SO here is the bigger question... you are focusing on "Singapore" right now... is the intention to go broader at some point?

To maybe clarify some of this... Either effort is effort right? to think that SEO trumps social, or Social trumps SEO is very short sided thinking... you need BOTH. In terms of time... Social takes more right? for SEO You can develop citations etc in literally an hour a day? You can pester maybe local news to cover your business in a few hours a week? BUT developing content that you place on your site and then throw snippets around the web like its your job simply takes time - and EFFORT.

If you think of it this way... you should be developing BRAND, and maybe not so much SELLING. Get your name out socially, and let your site do the selling, make sense? BUILD the infrastructure, for success tomorrow, an a year from now, 5 years from now. Allow your ideal customer to find and interact with you socially, and then allow them to find YOU in search.

    Hope that Helps!

First, they're already behind in their efforts to promote...now they're trying to play catch up. Their bad.

They should have already been promoting this way before they actually rolled it out. There are processes that make the actual day of opening a big success.

Now it sounds like they've waited to start promoting their new thing after they already released it.

They would have saved time and money (old saying that I hate) if they had started their promotion months ago before they rolled it out.

Something new coming. Be an early tester. Get in on the ground floor...blah, blah, blah, blah.

Too many people/companies want to perfect everything before they begin to roll it out...big mistake.

But, now that they put themselves in this position...I would suggest they back up and start over as if they hadn't rolled it out yet and were announcing what was coming. I'm assuming from what you're saying, it's not something many have heard of. Go back to basics and look for early testers, look for those who want to try it and offer feedback...allow the testers and early adaptors to promote it.

They're making the whole thing way more complicated than it should have been.

Just some thoughts. Maybe I'm not reading your post right...but from what I've gathered is what I'm basing my comment on...

Both are needed. Even though SMM doesn't play a huge role in SERP results, using it in conjunction with the other SEO efforts you listed above helps with presenting a well rounded portfolio to Google.

Even I am in the same platform, As per my view, don't drop social media, but target location, age, etc while running ads campaign, most you can try with leads generation form, with google leads tracker, also better you use heatmap to solve bounce rate.

    I would do both.
I get a lot of traffic from social media.
Not so much from my blog though, but that can change at any time by targetting the right keyword.

Not drop entirely but maybe weigh on SEO more until you have a solid foundation and then balance it out with Social Media Marketing? From a personal experience, both have advantages in terms of getting audiences - different channel but the end goal is the same. So focusing on both is better than giving up one completely.

Opinions on this will vary, of course. However -- in my view -- social media leads can be "low attention span" leads (which can cause a higher bounce rate).

Therefore, I would focus on SEO, but use social media as "boosters" for your SEO (backlinks, etc).

Also, make sure you're split-testing your sales copy.

Yes, to build traction, you should go deep rather than broad and SEO is one of the most credible sources of traffic because it's like getting an endorsement from Google. However, do include social sharing buttons so others can share your quality SEO content. However, my favourite is email marketing because when you buy 100 visitors, you get 100 visitors. period. The vendor has to deliver the 100 visitors.

as well as SEO in general, dont forget proper taging ie hashtagging and internal hyperlinking for specific keywords wherever possible. We all know how much of a difference proper keyword tags in Yourube videos are....it's just as critical for web pages. Good Luck!

Keep working on social media and work more on SEO at the same time.
The bounce rate is irrelevant... Do they convert?

Don't drop Social Media Marketing. It depends how you do it though, your posts should be applied to relevant social media pages and groups with targeted audience.
