How to start writing my funnel?

so thanks to this forum, i now understand i need a funnel, so i am working on that, although once i have the funnel, how do i write it out so that people take me up on my offer?

I tried funnels before and i threw very little ad traffic at a basic landing page, no sign ups, so i got discourged and quit

Now i realize if i want to scale? i need a funnel

so, any tips for writing out the funnel pages?

Thank you

Scale what? You're at zero. You can't scale zero (zero times 1,000,000 is still zero). You need to start with at least 1 before you can scale anything.

This might not be what you want to hear but...

What were you expecting to happen? Do you honestly believe such minor effort will magically produce major results?

My first tip is - you need to change your mindset and be prepared to put in the work if you want to reap the harvest.

Let me put it to you in the form of a parable. Maybe it'll make sense to you?

Our story begins with a young child watching a magic show with her father...

Look Daddy, that man just pulled a rabbit out of his hat! How did he do that?

I don't know honey... it must be MAGIC !

Oh the enchantment of youth. When parlor tricks and slight of hand equated to genuine magic.

Sadly, as we grow up and find ourselves needing to be more "realistic" , much of that magic is lost to the folly of youth.

Yet, so many of us still yearn for the mystical dreams of manifestation. And we want to believe in the wonderful gifts of magical enchantment.

So what does any of this have to do with marketing and running a business?

Well... because so many people have a deep desire to believe in magic, many become easy prey for the con artists and scammers of the world.

I've been a member of multiple forums for a few years now, and every time I see a thread started with someone asking "how can I make a lot of money, fast and easy, with little effort?" (or any variation of this question)...

I still find myself shaking my head in despair, because I know I'm watching some poor little lamb who's volunteering to be eaten by wolves.

Hear these words, dear newbie... If you're looking for easy magic, you'll find plenty of people willing to offer you everything your heart desires.

And most of them are making their money by selling you the magic system.

When the magic system doesn't work...

    - Some will learn the lesson.

    - Some will join the ranks of snake oil peddlers, and do unto others what has been done to them.

    - And many will simply look for the next bright shiny object. Until one day you find yourself screaming at the internet about all the scammers who just want to take your money. (Never accepting the fact that this is exactly what you volunteered for)

Hey look, I'm not immune to the fantasy myself... "Oh, how many times I've wished it were true, that I could simply buy a magical system for $97, and it would bring me $5000 a month in passive income, with little to no effort."

But I know better, and so should you...

Do you honestly think you can start a business today, and make enough money to quit your job next week?

And do you truly believe when someone tells you they can drive 1000 people to your website, and easily turn half of them into paying customers?

If you believe these things, then you are the lawful prey to any scammer selling magic formulas, secret sauces, or bright shiny objects.

The truth is, a sustainable business takes work. It takes a combination of time... effort... and yes, "money" to make it work.

The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can stop chasing the mirage of easy money... And the sooner you can decide if you're willing to pay the price for success.

You pay the price with your time, effort, knowledge and experience, and an obsession to succeed.

And you'll know when you've paid the price, because your success will be here for the whole world to see.

There is a glorious banquet of wealth and prosperity available to you right now. But it's not like a restaurant where you eat first, and pay after. It's more like a cafeteria where you choose what you want, and then you pay before you eat.

Now I'm not here to preach to you. You're an adult, and you can make your own decisions. And if you want to search for the magic formula that can make all your dreams come true... then by all means, have at it.

But here's a spoiler alert for you...

...That rabbit was up the magicians sleeve the whole time.

      Okay... lol

I get it, it was my first attempt, im a bit more wiser now. I have a one year plan and i am sticking to it,

I signed up for the one funnel away challenge and the big premise is "30 days to change your life" or something like that, so blame Brunson for that, mismanaging expectations.

But anyways, you make a great point, start with one then move on, it takes time consistency and great effort, i get all of that..

I guess to rephrase my question, How do you start writing copy for a funnel?

I wrote some copy last night and threw together a basic landing page, it looks okay and i think the copy is kind of motivating.

I started googling how to write out funnel copy and started reading, its kind of simple, it said to focus on the benefits

I just feel like i need to hear it from someone whos an expert / authority rather than just reading whatever i can find on google

the problem i think ill run into with the funnel is that i can write and create it to the best of my ability, but it will be hard for me to know where i went wrong as people either sign up or bounce, i suppose hotjar would help

I can't guarantee my process will work for you like it does for me, but I guess I can share a few broad strokes with you (of course if I was trying to sell this to you then I'd find a way to offer you a guarantee )

First I have to know what we're selling, so I can decide if I even want to be a part of it.

If it sounds scammy, scummy, slimy or morally bankrupt, then I'm out.

On the other hand if it's something that brings genuine value to people (whatever that value may be), then I'm in.

Now if it's a market I'm not already familiar with, I start with the target market.

Do you know who your ideal target market is?

Hang out in their world and pay attention to what they're happy about and what they're complaining about. And the words they use in conversation. Especially the emotional words they use to express their complacency or discontent.

If you can ask questions, even better. And genuinely pay attention to the answers

Getting to know people offers us a lot of clues about how to get their attention. And it helps even more when we need to tie our product into their interests

So first, I need to know everything about what we're selling and who we're selling to.

Then I pay attention to what the competition is doing so I can offer something different (bigger? better? faster?) to stand out from the crowd.

For my landing page I start by digging into my swipe file archives and pull out every brilliant piece that's related to what we're selling. This gives me inspiration from mentors. Even those I've never met in real life. I might even steal a sentence or two just to get the story moving.

Of course these are only generalities because I don't know anything about what you're promoting, or who you're market is, but the biggest thing I recommend (and this is something I see many marketers fail at) keep your message congruent from ad to landing page.

        - Whatever promotional message you use to get people to your landing page,

        - Whatever promise you made that peaked their interest,

        - Whatever expectation you create immediately before they land on your page...

Make absolutely certain that's exactly what they find when they do land on your page.

This is not the time to build mistrust or confusion. This is the time to build confidence in your visitor that they're in the right place.
Your ad said "Once upon a time" - and now your landing page needs to continue that same story.

That's good advice. And keep in mind benefits are subjective.

You may want the lowest price... But I'm perfectly happy paying more for better quality or better customer service.

Again, what can you tell me about your product and your market?

Yeah, that's the same issue you, me, and thousands more like us deal with every day.

The more experience we get the better our chances of higher response rates, but it always comes down to testing and measuring results.

And remember, even if you do everything right, stuff can still go wrong. Stuff that's out of our control. And it can be discouraging.
When that happens go ahead, allow yourself to wallow in self pity for a minute, and then pick yourself up by your bootstraps and get back in the game.

My friend, I have every confidence that if you have a definitive purpose to learn this stuff, and a strong enough "reason why" you need to succeed... you will succeed.

The reason I know you can do this is because you've already proven it to me.

You came here and asked a silly question, and I gave you a goofy answer.

That was your first test and you got a result.

You didn't love the result so you tested a different question. And now I've given you a different answer.

If you don't love this answer you can try a different question. Or you can test your question on a different audience.

        That's the whole game

My previous post was meant to steer you away from mystical thinking. Now it's time to just get started taking one step towards your goal. Then another. Then another.

Test stuff out. Measure the results. Learn something new and try that out.

As long as you have a clear vision of where you want to end up, stick with it and never stop learning and testing. Soon you'll look back at where you've been and be amazed at how far you've come.

        Best of luck to you,
        - Steve

Surely you can add a bit more so we can understand what you think is really true, what is hard reality and what you find superb and why.

Otherwise, you've just killed a couple dozen pixels for nothing.

    Who is your target audience?
How will they come to your optin page?

If they all come the same way, one funnel is enough.

If they come via different ways (ads/ offers), you may need more than one funnel. Or, at least, the first thing they see might have to be different, to match whatever got them over.

Benefits is good. Benefits that match what they're looking for is even better. Showing them feature + benefit, also good.

If you want to produce high converting copy for your funnel, but don't know how, try using a copywriting bot such as Jarvis, I've tried a few bots and Jarvis is the best one. Alternatively, you can hire someone on Fiverr to write the copy for you.

Regarding Jarvis, the copy works, but just make sure that if you are using a sales page in your funnel that you make it long-form i.e. at least 20 blocks of content or else nobody will buy. And obviously spice it up a bit with images and so on. Good luck!

Producing the result on the first try is not easy. However, when you do it 2-3 times, you can properly identify loopholes in your strategy. Then, by revising, you will be able to produce a result.
You must have a good copy to attract your customer and data of their buying behaviours.

You should find a product similar to what you are trying to sale in your funnel. Just look in your own cloud drive or search online at ClickBank till you find the sales pages from these products. Scroll through the words and highlight...copy...paste... Copy and paste all the main text from each page into Notepad. Their verbiage use is by professional copywriters, so it speaks to the audience. Now try to rewrite your funnel script from what you just pasted from each of the sales pages. Obviously don't steal someone's hard work. Interestingly enough, this copy and editing style is very similar to email subscribers joining the email lists of the big moneymakers who use copyrighters to write their emails. Whenever you need ideas, you can go back and read their subject lines and email copy, so you can get a feel for what is working in the market.

    A couple of quick thoughts...

first, we have no idea what you're selling.

Second, we live in the age of Social Proof.

What you say isn't as important as how people get there. You can post 3 words and a sign-up box and make a million bucks this month. You can spend days trying to be fancy and have the whole thing bomb.

If they don't know you...you can write the best speech and nobody cares.

    Networking is important.

I have a friend that just wrote a book on funnel building. He built a funnel and did $934,000,000.00 in the first week. If you're serious about funnels, you need to grab his book today here.

There is no book...but I would shoot that out to my list and when they landed on your page, they wouldn't care what you say.

You have got to have social proof and these days it's often through a referral.

Team up with someone that has an audience and can promote you.

It's almost comical these days how someone will try and come from out of nowhere...and even if they have something great...they have no social proof connections and so it becomes just another failed attempt.

So, I'm making this quick, but if you want a big jump start, team up. Saves you a ton of time and money in the long run.

Instead of spending wasted time trying to figure out what to say...figure out who can say it for you. It's how you get to where you want to go...

What Max5ty said.... and to add

When we as humans undertake a project we have this tendency to be very linear in thought. I want to make money, I need to make a website, I need to create a funnel, I, I, I, I.

But think about many of the products in recent years that have been "HUGE" Lets use The Apple iPhone as an example. When it came out, what was the big push? Was it the vast improvement on how a "Phone" operates, or was it the tactile things, like how it looks, and how it feels and the simplicity of use?

Having the ability to see documentaries now on how the device was designed... did they decide they were going to design and build a phone... it has to have keys and buttons and this and that? ( like every other company had been doing at that point for years ) or did they break the mold and re-invent a device?

It was about the end user from the very beginning... the process of design, and ultimately the process of selling the product was driven by the end user.

So what does this have to do with building a funnel? Funnels should be developed ( in my opinion ) from the perspective of a user already having the <insert what ever it is> This reversal in thinking changes the language used... it makes the idea of "Benefits" easier to communicate vs "Features" Jumping back real fast, do you ever recall an apple iPhone ad saying anything about the ability to make a call? <insert "can you hear me now?>

iPhones were sold based on the BENEFITS the product provided - to include the sleek, slender, and smooth design aspect. If you recall at the time, phone in general were getting big in size. Ironically it was Apple that started the trend of larger phones ( after Jobs passed away), but look at where they are now... Jobs KNEW what the people wanted, and oh so delivered.

So look at your <insert what ever it is> from the perspective of being the end user and using it. Answer some very basic questions... WHO s this product for? WHAT does the product do? WHERE can the product be used (is it saas, is it Internet driven, is it an app?) WHEN would a person use it?, and WHY would a person use it? and once you have converted or sold someone on those benefits, your further communication should be about HOW to use it.

      Nice post.

I agree with you...but...I think iphone branded themselves as "different" and set themselves apart from the "other" less technical crowd.

They did a great job on their branding.

Myself, and this is just me, I don't see the whole Apple thing...but hey, they did a good job selling themselves and I'll give them credit for that.

Branded as Different yes... But the no buttons ( meaning number buttons) or SIRI or any of that was not released til real close to the actual release date... It was the first what I would call REAL computer in your hand phone to market... It was a real 1984 moment, except it was 2007 - and for a geek like me ( and I have never really been a fan of iphones, but do use them, just not personally ) it was the marketing that caught my eye very much paralleled the Mac, and was as ground breaking as the Mac.

I'm a firm believer that generational marketing is what keeps iphone where it is...

also it's why I believe Facebook is fading out unless they develop something new and unique that grabs the younger generation.

Facebook started with the young crowd (college) and then after forever, the old people started catching on. Now the younger crowd is leaving.

Some businesses can thrive on "catching" the younger crowd and thriving...like McDonald's...

Facebook isn't in that category because they're a social media category that doesn't play into the same principles that the older generations played into.

Same with funnels now. I don't think they're vertical anymore...I think they're more horizontal and then that's giving them the broadest description.

I think a funnel is only as effective as the process that got them there.

I would say in the late 90's to early 2010's maybe Funnels were nothing but vertical. I would suggest the disrupter was "Infusionsoft" ( Now Keap ) I personally have not built a "vertical" funnel in YEARS... and yet, here on the WF vertical funnels are the most commonly discussed - and I get the fact it is because of lack of complication. but the reality is they are not very effective. I am sure you have read me say... Parallels Parallels Parallels.

Repeat that 10 times to yourself... H U G E statement right there! A funnel by itself will sell nothing. It is a piece of greater and bigger process.

Repeat that 10 times to yourself... H U G E statement right there! A funnel by itself with sell nothing. It is a piece of greater and bigger process.
It's really the whole outbound/inbound marketing concept. We've moved beyond outbound marketing and we're focusing more on inbound marketing...

I'm 61, and I'll have to say I've been looking at TikTok and that is a whole world of opportunity...but, it's a world that takes the right know-how to invade...but it's a huge huge huge huge opportunity right now to get in on the ground level.

But, as always, you've got some great insights. Thanks for the feedback.

Each of the sales funnels stages has an impact on consumer behavior. You need to know them intimately.

By knowing each step, you can use tactics to improve the number of people that go from one step to the next.

This can have a crazy impact on your business.

Let's say you double the number of people at 2 steps of your funnel. You double leads and you double the percentage of closed customers. That gives you 4X the number of new customers every month.

Defining and managing your sales funnel is one of the most powerful concepts in business.

You can use lead page gen to create a funnel with a drag and drop feature. Plus if you comfortable with Wordpress there are some builder that can let you create good looking funnels.

Split test then optimize copy ideas you have with an audience you want to reach...

Or if you find this to be your weakness... find away to turn it into a strength like outsourcing so that you can throw all your focus on creating sales, commissions or both.

    Hope this helps.

Copywriting is one of the most important skills you can master for online business. Really, what we're all after is conversion rate. Higher the conversion rate, the more successful your business is...

So by learning how to write copy that converts, you are on the right path... Big time.

I agree with some of the above comments about market research and hanging out where your market is hanging out and learning everything there is to know about them... this is super important!

Find the market, and the offers that convert within that market.

But as for learning how to write copy that converts, I have an exercise for you:

Find the highest converting sales letter you can find (I'm sure Google will have something if you just look up "highest converting sales letter of all time"), and then once you have a piece of copy you know has converted at a world class standard...

Write it out, exactly word for word, with pen and paper.

By using pen and paper, you'll retain more and be able to apply the same principles they used in your own copy. Simply copying the sales letter by hand into your journal will make you more aware of how to write copy that converts.

Repeat this exercise over and over again with different, but just as high converting sales letters.

I will make the guarantee that if you do this, you'll progress towards your own high conversion rates.

Shout out to Derek Gehl, I learned this from his podcast Entrepreneur Ignited. It's from 2015, so it's a bit out dated, but the principles of online business really don't change. I have learned A LOT from it. I highly recommend it.

    I hope that helps!

A couple of party pooper things here...

first, if you paid someone $10,000 to write your funnel, you still wouldn't get anymore sign-ups than what you're getting now.

Yeah, we read about all the great funnel success stories...but look behind the scenes...they have a list...they have people following them, or they have a lot of social proof. Yet, they want to sell you a magnificent course on how to write a funnel. Worthless nonsense unless you've also got everything else in place.

Next thing. A lot of copywriters want you to think there's some sort of magic, or voodoo science going on...nonsense. Go back to my last paragraph.

So, what I'm saying, is write what you have...

"3 Little Known Secrets To Selling More On Amazon" (example)

Simple. Just say what you want to say. There is no magic. There are no secret words.

I've said this before...a funnel is only as good as what is getting people there.

To have your funnel become more successful, is not what you're saying, it's everything else that you're overlooking
